“We are one of those many repeat visitors!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 19, 2013

"12 times" and we will always go back! In our family, we lovingly refer to the Royal Decameron as our "home away from home". All in all there are over twenty of us who are repeat visitors travelling together in large groups or independantly, and all find this an extremely reasonably priced, authentic Mexcian getaway. The beach is great for swimming, walking/running, sunning. The resort itself is definitely colorful, grounds are extremely well manicured, food is good to excellent, staff are friendly and always willing to help AND the activites staff/entertainment are some of the best we've ever encountered. Oscar, the tennis pro gives a warm welcome to the "fun players" yet provides great competetion to the more competetive athletes!
The rooms are very basic yet comfortable....always replacing beds/furniture as needed, and there are no complaints about the housekeeping. There are 6 buildings which can meet everyone's preference...beachfront, children's activities....even a quiet adults only pool.
Being walking distance to the fishing town of Bucerias is terrific and you can partake in "local bargaining practices" at their growing market. Or you can simply enjoy the authentic atmosphere and lovely people.
The security staff here are thorough and none of us have ever felt unsafe. There really is nothing that should keep one away from trying out this wonderful place!

Room Tip: Block five has the quiet adults only pool. Block six has a pool set up geared to families. The oth...

Got back yesterday from a weeklong getaway at the Royal Decameron Complex (05/06-05/13). After a very disappointing trip in the Mayan Riviera a couple years back, I was looking for a true authentic, Mexican resort and that's exactly what it was! I can't complain much because for the price payed (749$ from Montreal) we were truly pleased. The staff at the resort were very kind, the room was clean and the food was very good! We tried the 5 a la carte restaurants which were all delicious, although the Mexican one was less to our liking. Most guests at the resort were Mexicans, and I thought it was nice to have lots of locals, however most activities organized by the staff were only attended by them, so I sometimes felt us Canadians were left out at times. The evening shows were quite entertaining, pretty much the best I've seen in over 10 resorts down south! All in all, it was a very enjoyable stay :) I would have stayed an extra week if I could have, so I'm planning on getting back ASAP!

We really liked the RDC.
Like some people have noted and or complained, the rooms are very simple, not much in the way of toiletries and such.
No frig, coffee pot or safe (there is keyed strong box that you can rent a key to use).
What you get is a absolutely spotless room, with a fairly comfortable bed and when your in a place as nice as this... what are you in the room for anyways, to sleep, clean up and such.
So it worked for us.

The whole resort is very clean.
And the staff, very, VERY friendly and helpful.

The buffets are very Mexican, so you may or may not be thrilled but there was always something that you could find that was good, maybe had to look a little.
The ala cartes were mixed, the Japanese not not great, the Italian was real good and the rest were somewhere in between.
One more thing about food, the coffee was good and if you have traveled even a little no know that's saying something.
As for the other drinks, we were never disappointed...LOL!!!

Yea it's not as slick or flashy as some resorts but that is why we like it so much, just a nice comfortable place to hang out in the sun and for very cheap.

Also I want to mention Vincent from AirTransat who was stationed at the lobby, great advice on some tours and just plain helpful when you needed to know something about the resort or nearby area.
We will be back again.

Room Tip: WE liked Complex 5 with the adult only pool, might not be so great if you have kids or even teenager...

When my mom and I visited the Royal Decameron last fall near the end of September it was one of the best experiences we had at a hotel. It was my first time in Mexico, however I was very surprised at the level of customer service at the hotel. All the staff are very helpful and always ensure that everything is kept up to standard. All of the servers and waiters at the restaurants were very helpful and brought you drinks without asking. The maids always cleaned and made up the rooms right as we left the sign on, however the only exception was the second day after arriving the maids had not gotten to our room until around 5PM (that's ok, considering there was a large volume of travellers arriving on the same vacation deal). The bartenders are very nice and friendly, and always appreciate a nice tip.

Restaurants
The restaurants were very good, especially the a la cartes! My favorite was Piccolo, the Italian one near block 6. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. The other good ones were the Thai one, Rodizio the Brazilian one and Mexican Fusion. The only OK one was Jap-Jap. The sushi was good, however the main course was not as good. The rest of the food was delicious however! The buffet restaurants were always good for breakfast, lunch, or a quick snack and always offered a variety of good food items available to eat. The waiters and bartenders were very helpful and friendly, especially Maria and Fernando.

Rooms
The rooms were good, but not the best I have been to at a resort. The beds were comfortable and everything, but there was no fridge. The balcony was a nice touch though. There was a working shower, TV, and A/C.

Entertainment
There is a daily show on at 9:30 every night at the theater that is very well done! All of it is live, well done entertainment performed by staff members. There is a TV in every room with local programming in Spanish but it has one channel that shows American movies in English with Spanish subtitles so you can understand it. There is a soccer field and disco club in the same area as the theatre, which are also a nice touch. There was no wifi when I went but there is now based on reviews I have read.

Location
The hotel is located at the outskirts of Bucerias, a village near Puerto Vallarta. It is just a 10 minute walk away from the Bucerias market and main square, and it is close to many amenities. The beach is beautiful, and it is only about 1 hour of a beach walk away from the main city of Puerto Vallarta. There are local stores on the street by the hotel, Lazaro Cardenas, that sell souveniers and other goods.

Room Tip: Get a room in block 5! It is the adult area and it is quieter at night, even though it is not as clo...

This review is quite late and based and on visits to the RDC in the spring (varied travel dates between mid March to early April) of 2010, 2011, and 2012. We planned to return to the RDC at the same time this year (2013) but the travel dates we needed were not available and/or the prices were significantly higher compared to our visits from previous years. (We did leave booking later than usual.)

We opted to try a different location and resort on the Pacific coast which was a good trip but, it was not what we have experienced and enjoyed at the RDC and the Bucerias area.

As others have reported the RDC is an older resort but well maintained. The rooms are very basic but clean and the maid service is very good. (We did tip the maid everyday during our stays so perhaps that makes a difference?) Beds are typical Mexican resort uncomfortable.
Our experience with food at the RDC was generally good. Compared to our recent trip to a so called 5 star property, the RDC food seemed to be better in quality and variety. We dined at several of the ala carte’s at the RDC and found the Italian was quite good, Mexican not bad, Brazilian good, and the Japanese so, so. Bar service overall was good and in our experience if you find a bartender that makes and serves a decent drink and tip regularly they generally continue to serve well.

All of the resort staff was friendly and accommodating to inquiries and requests.

The resort is large but not overwhelming. Our stays have all been in block 5 which is one of the quitter areas. If you want more activity it’s not hard to find mainly in the beachfront buildings. All blocks are easy walks no matter where you are to all of the amenities.

The beach is great for walking either north or south and the town of Bucerias is quite charming and can be reached by walking on the main road or beach in 20 – 30 minutes.

We have enjoyed our previous visits to this area and the RDC resort and will return provided the price is right.
One issue we experienced previously was wi-fi availability. Not sure if it’s improved on the resort property but there are several cafe’s or bar’s across the street from the resort that can accommodate for a minimal fee.

We’re sure that some previous visitors will agree and disagree with our comments and observations but a lot of enjoying your vacation is what you want, need, and expect.

If you want the best of the best the RDC is not for you. If you can settle for a basic room with decent food and drinks in a lovely scenic location give it consideration.
