Stayed at this resort for one week Jan 2013. Was very impressed at the layout, as there were I believe six separate hotel buildings, five pools ,four alacartes, snack bar and five bars. This resort was quite busy but you really didn,t feel the amount of people because of the way it was layed out. Very good staff and the food was quite good also. Really liked the snack bar, great hamburgers, and the salsa was awsome. Would for sure recommend this place to others.

We just returned from a great two week stay at the Royal Decameron. Before we arrived I had e mailed the hotel and requested a queen bed with a mattress cover, and, to be on an upper floor. Both requests were honoured.
Food- I do not know what people who complain about the food eat when they are at home. There was variety and a great deal of choice. There was always chicken (the roast chicken was amazing!), fish, pork, beef, pasta, vegetables, salad, guacamole to die for, soup…I could go on and on! The breakfasts offered eggs anyway you would like, cereal, pancakes, waffles, smoothies…you name it. It was all delicious. There are two main buffets that offer meals for dinner and each night they offered different types of food so if you did not like what was offered at one you could go to another buffet. The ONLY disappointment was the night we went to Seafood night at the buffet…we were expecting to find some shrimp…none. The food that night was not at the level we had come to expect or indeed received over the rest of our two week stay.
A La Carte Restaurants- you need to book in the morning at 8 but if you go at 7 you can get a number and then return at 8 and not have to stand in line and wait. You can book for that night and the next. We went to the Italian restaurant twice. It was excellent, the service was terrific…my favourite by far…delicious! We also went to the Mexican which was very good. The Thai restaurant was so so…service was not as good as the other two restaurants and the food was just ok. Three of us ordered a shrimp dish…I got two shrimp, another in my party got three, and the last person received four…Our final night we went to the Brazilian Barbeque restaurant. It had a very small salad bar and then we had soup. The rest of the meal is a LOT of meal. The waiters come around with skewer after skewer of meat and slice of portions for you…it was all delicious but there is a limit to how much meat a person can eat….if you are a big meat eater this a la carte is for you! The men were happy that they were not required to wear long pants to any of the a la cartes.
Rooms- are basic, clean and all we needed. There are plenty of drawers and hangers for your clothes, a flat screen tv if you want to watch, lots of hot water with good pressure, a big balconey and a very firm bed…the mattress topper was helpful. You need to bring your own shampoo etc as none is supplied. We were in building 1 which is ocean front. We were in the middle of the building on the 3rd floor…great view, noise only when there were two beach parties when spring breakers were there the first week. There is a bar by the activity pool that is very loud at night but our room was far enough away that it did not really bother us. If you want to be in building 1 try not to be in the room numbers that end in 1 (first # is building #, second # is the floor, last two #’s are your actual room) …example 1301, 1202…we were in room 1311 and would say that is as close as you want to be to the late night bar end of the building. Buildings 5 and 6 are the furthest from the beach but would be very quiet at night as all the night activity is up around building 1 and 2. Building 3 is the only one with and elevator if that is a concern/factor for you.
Beach- beautiful. You can walk for miles. Lots of palapas to sit under. The loungers are hard white plastic that normally at home you would put a cushion on. They are very uncomfortable but there is a small store kitty corner from the restaurant that sells blow up pool floats for $5 and they blow it up for you. Lots and lots of people had them including us and at the end of our stay we just passed then on to someone who was staying. Well worth the 5 dollars.
Grounds- well kept, someone was always grooming or watering the plants. Very clean, really lovely.
Staff- very professional, friendly, hard working, the Decameron should be proud of their staff. They represent the hotel very well.
Extras- Massages just down from the hotel…$20, great…my massage therapist had been in the area and recommended I give it a try…just walk down toward Bucerias a few minutes…back from the beach and up one step…set up in from of a villa type place. Bucerias a short 20 minute walk, great restaurants etc.
A great place to stay if you want to relax, want to feel comfortable, and do not need anything fancy. This is not a posh, pretentious, or stuffy place. It is a great holiday enjoy yourself place.

Room Tip: beachfront- building 1, 2nd or 3rd floor, ask to be in room 11 or higher as the rooms 1-9ish are close to the bar that is open late in the night and are noisy building 3 has an elevator if you need one, buildings 5 and 6 are very, very quite at night but are further from the beach.

We have just returned from two weeks at the Royal Decameron Complex in Bucerias. We have been to this resort in the past and I have to say that it has only gotten better. The service was amazing -from the front desk staff to the animation team to the servers in the restaurants - we have absolutely no complaints! The first week was quite loud as there were 250 drunk teens at the resort. They were loud and took over the bar areas. The resort is so geared to families that I was surprised that the Decameron allowed them on the property. I heard a lot of people say that they would not return because of this. There are so many other properties where the kids can go to party. Apart from this, the vacation was great. We loved the steak house and the Italian restaurant. We never tried the other a la carte restaurants. I see other posts about the rooms needing updating - they may need a facelift, but really all we needed was a dresser to put clothes in and a bed. The rooms are extremely clean and the resort is spotless. Remember this is not a 5 star resort - not like the Princess or Barceló chains by any comparison. You only need a place to crash for the night as you are so busy in the day. There is not an alarm clock in the room nor shampoo etc. Bring your own and you will be just fine. We heard people complain about this for sure, but who goes on holidays to use the tiny bottles of shampoo anyways! We stayed in Block 1 and loved it = right central to everything. The walk to Bucerias takes about 20 min and the market is there. Cab ride costs 50 pesos to come back to the resort. We would not hesitate to recommend this resort to friends and family. Thanks to all at the Decameron for a wonderful holiday! Wish we were still there!

Room Tip: Block 5 and 6 are very quiet areas. Block 1 is right on the beach, with a pool on either side of the building.

The entire resort, including the rooms, is spotless.
The buffet food is good, with changing choices and variety. We preferred them to the specialty restaurants that were "set menu" rather than a la carte. If you like Japanese food, stay away from the Jap Jap The meal started with mushi sushi and went downhill from there. This was probably the worst meal that we have ever had in Mexico. The Brazilian restaurant was better, but the set meal was served one piece at at time with no choice.
In the spotless room was a TV, phone, and hairdryer. Missing from what I would consider a 4* - shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, fridge with beverages and snacks, resort directory, paper & pen, alarm clock and modern safe. (you pay $25/week for a safe key). It took us three calls to get a remote for the TV and a second chair for the balcony.
Several people told us that the evening shows were good, but nothing was posted to say what was being shown each evening. Also, we did not find out that the two lobbies had Wi-fi until day five of our stay. We had paid for internet.
The bars were great, especially Cesar's, but no swim-up bar or poolside/beach service.
Great beach for swimming, but no good for snorkeling.
Overall a pleasant stay.

Room Tip: There are six buildings, number one being the oldest and closest to the water, six the newest and furthest from the beach. No elevators. All of the rooms seemed identical.

We had a great time in Bucerias at the Royal Decameron! We loved it! It was the perfect place to go with our two teenagers.

This is what we loved about it:
- close to the quaint Mexican town of Bucerias (20 min. walk along beach or road)
- excellent food with amazing selection (2 buffet restaurants, 4 or 5 reservation restaurants)
- beautiful beach
- clean rooms
- outstanding entertainment shows every night
- very friendly and helpful staff

It was fairly busy because of spring break, especially the last few days. The last two days there were probably 50% mexican families and it was starting to get harder to find a chair by the pool. We enjoyed meeting the Mexicans and felt that it contributed to the cultural experience we were looking for.

I would definitely recommend this resort to anyone!

Room Tip: We had requested Block 6 because of adjoining rooms and what we had read in other reviews, but we found that it was a little bit far from the beach and buffet restaurants. The 2nd day we moved to Block 3 which is very central and had 2 side by side rooms (not adjoining though). We liked this block much better for location. It was fairly noisy in the evenings because of the shows and disco, but we never went to bed before 11:00 so that didn't matter to us. Also, the air conditioning drowned out any noise. We ended up liking the pool at Block 6 the best though, so usually made 1 trip to that pool a day, but still liked having our room at Block 3 to be close to everything else. My preference for location would be Blocks 1, 2, 3 or 4.
