I went there in january 2009, and I really liked it!! The complex is close to the beach, the beach is nice, the staff is really nice!! I loved the evening shows ... The food was okay!! Really had fun overall!! Would recommend it!! :)
I just finished reading the 'unhappy' review of the Royal Decameron. Hello! Did we stay at the same place. Number one, the snack bar was open by Area 6 and yes, there were hamburgers, hotdogs, fries, chips, salsa, guacamole etc. The food at the buffets was plentiful and varied. Seriously, if you were there from Canada in the last few weeks of September, the trip was totally cheap. It cost me and my husband $1000 total. I might have been minorly annoyed at no Kleenex in the bathroom or no fridge in the room but come on---. The staff was accomodating, the rooms were clean, the entertainment was ENTERTAINING. I will definitely go back.
I would just like to say . that overall this place was o.k. we have been here twice before. the other two times it was alot better then now. the food was not very good. it was the same meal plan just about everyday. didn;t matter if it was Italian nite, mexican nite or any other nationality. they need more up todate american or canadian meals. and there was no food to snack on in the afternoon when the restaurant would close . this should of been up and running till dinner time. example. nachos , hamburgers, hotdogs. there was nothing of this. we had to go and buy snacks . I felt under the weather for a couple of days. they would not allow my husband to remove food from the restaurant. I was very upset. all I wanted was something to eat. He would of returned the plates or mugs or whatever. oh did I forget to tell all. that royal decameron did have the snack bar in the afternoon awhile back. they took this away. Not good. . Not sure If Iwill return to this resort . There are other resorts in puerto vallarta that do offer the best of everything. check them out. oh and where they placed us in the complex we were way too far from all the restaurants. there was alot of walking. complex 1 to be exact. would of loved to be more at complex 5 adult peace.
Just got back from the Royal Decameron (Sept.15-22nd) We've been to this Resort once before in Feb.2012 and it was so good we just had to go back. Anybody going here expecting 5star will be disappointed , even 4star is pushing it a bit but on a budget this is the place. Its clean, food is good, and servers are excellent. We had been told that going in Sept. its hot and humid and boy is it ever.We also knew that going at this time the place would be largely occupied by Mexican holidayers and read lots of negative comments about this. We had no problems with this at all.The servers never turned away from us and the Mexican people are just fine here. I think the one thing I would warn people about is expect a lot of children. In Feb. when its mostly North Americans here there hardly any kids but Mexican families comming here for weekends and such bring the whole family. However the one way to avoid the kids is of course the adult pool by building 5 so problem solved. Games and activities are fun and entertainment staff are fantastic and never leave out the english speaking people. (Jennie,Danny and Jimmy and Alberto are all so much fun) I could mame lots of peole here that are great. Going in to town or shopping at this time of year can be annoying though because there are barely any real tourists and the shop owners and venders are all over you but on the plus side its a great time of the year to make a deal. Also there is a T-shirt shop owner about 400m down the road from the complex that takes canadian tire money its seems wierd but he uses a catalogue and buys stuff. Going back again for sure in Feb.2013 !!
Sept is low season so be prepared to be swarmed by vendors! The resort is almost too big, but still relatively personal. Clean. The restaurant & bar staff were great. There is no WiFi onsite which was hard to believe, but you can go across the street to an upstairs bar for a drink and free WiFi. Lots of security onsite as well. Bucerias market is a 10 minute walk down the beach, PV is a 30 minute bus ride the other way - catch it on the highway at the corner - go to the 2nd Walmart, get off and catch a Centro bus to downtown PV. Cost is 17 pesos to Walmart and 7 pesos to downtown. Alternatively, $30 US for a cab, but the local bus experience is a riot. Drivers don't speak English. The beach at Decameron is the best in the area, but if it rains, the jellyfish come in so stay out of the water after a rain.
Never give your room number to anyone except the restaurant server (required). Seems that a couple of people that booked excursions (not just on this trip but heard of others as well) had their rooms robbed. The thief obviously had a key, took electronics and things that were not missed immediately. The only way I can see this happening is if they know exactly how long you are off resort because no one would risk losing a resort job over used electronics. So, if you go on an excursion, do not give your real room number to anyone other than your travel rep and ask them not to note it on your booking. Apparently, guest services does not accept responsibility. even though it's obvious it was a key entry. Oh well...
All in all, it was a great resort during low season - not sure if it would be in high season.
This was a double dose of new experiences. The first time in Mexico and the first time at an all inclusive. Both lived up to my expectations. The weather Sept.13-20, 2012 was perfect. 33-36 each day with just enough evening rain to keep everything green. Decameron is a very nice resort, colourful, ready to serve, good size rooms, very clean pool areas, lots to eat and drink and most important Adult Only pools. If you enjoy the beach, and who doesn't, this one is well laid out, the sand is a little course though, but you can enjoy a beautiful sunset from your beach lounge chair or from one of the beach side bars. All good. Spa services prices, compared to cruise spa prices were inexpensive starting at about 500 pesos. If you like to work out a nice little gym with lots of cardio machines, some weights and a multi gym something for everyone. Reserved dining was a hit and miss with 5 different choices. There were good and bad reviews of food from the same resturant on the same evening go figure. Again all of my meals were quite good. Buffets abound with many sittings and long hours to eat and enjoy as much or as little as you like. If any complaint its a long way from PV about a 30-35 minute cab ride at about 250 pesos. Overall I enjoyed myself. Plenty to eat and drink, entertaining night shows, nightly disco for the dance set and lots of stuff for the kids to do during the day. I'd go back
