“5th visit to the RDC”
Reviewed December 26, 2011

My daughter and I stayed at the RDC from December 10-17, 2011. It was my 5th visit at the RDC, the first 4 being with my husband, and actually the very first with our children about 6 years ago. We love the resort ! We have always stayed in Block 4 and did request it this time, but we were shown to Block 5 to a dingy room that was not yet made up. SO disappointing... I requested another room right away and we were shown to a room in Block 3, and took it. It was a ground floor room facing toward the ocean. The room was great ! But, unfortunately we could hear the noise from the floor show on the nights that we wanted to hit the sack early. Luckily it was all over by 10:30 or 11:00. We decided right away "if you can't beat 'em join 'em', so from them on we went to the floor shows !! They were terrific !!

The staff at reception did offer to move us to Block 4 part way through our holiday, but we declined as we were well settled in, and had a great room with a lovely patio looking over the grass and gardens.

The Management must have known we were disappointed to arrive after a long flight in a room that was not made up, and so sent us a bottle of bubbly and a fruit bowl to our room. Thank you !!!

I really can't say enough good things about the resort. The food (both for vegetarians and non-vegetarians) was fabulous. The drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) are also just great.

We know so many of the staff by name now, after all these years. They are really a special bunch of people who seem to love their work at the resort.

First time we have stayed here and not seen lots of Americans (a sign of the times). Still many Canadians visiting during our week, and also lots of lovely Mexican families who came down to the coast from Mexico City or Guadalajara. We met one young Dad who had driven his family down to the resort from the interior of Mexico somewhere, and it took him 11 hours of driving.

We didn't do any day trip/excursions this time, as we have done most of them in past years. We just enjoyed beach time/pool time, and walking in to Bucerias.

Okay, this is the best tip I can give all of you Trip Advisor friends ... walk along the beach going towards Bucerias and stop at the first FIRST of three massage tents (remember it's the first of 3) and you can get a 1 hour massage for only 20 dollars. All you hear is the sound of the surf crashing in. It's heaven ! Enjoy !

My first time at a resort or in Mexico, and I came home refreshed and rested. Block 5 is definitely the quiet one; it's about 5 min walk to the water from there. Food was fine, lots of choice, long hours, and snack bar (burgers, pizza) available in the unlikely event that you get hungry between meals. Staff was very pleasant, room was clean. No bath, just shower and water sometimes hot. The shows in the evening were fun and well done. Several pools (very clean) including one quiet one for adults only; yoga/stretching classes in the morning, water aerobics at noon, dance classes at 3, volley ball on the beach, bicycles to borrow, crafts, games etc for kids. Village an easy walk by beach or road. water warm with enough waves to be fun but not so much to be intimidating (for this moderate swimmer, anyway). This is not a luxury hotel, but it is clean, friendly and well maintained.

A huge hit with western canadians, this resort was full of BC residents. We even met someone from around the corner. I have stayed nextdoor at the Riu Palace and the Riu Jalisco and yes, this resort does not have marble glossy bathrooms or in room fridges, the rooms are basic, but it's clean, servicable and on average, at lest $500 or more cheaper per person than the five stars. We had just as good of a time here that at those places. When you consider, the drinks, beach and pools are the same, it's worth the reduced rate.I think we paid around 800 including tax to fly from BC and the Palace or Jalisco were over $1000. The staff is great, the food was good and I am vegetarian, no complaints. Resort is clean and well maintained, it's totally safe there, you can walk into Bucerias in a few minutes and shop. The best thing about this place is the pools. There are six, which means no screaming kids splashing and running about as there is a kids pool and an adult only pool. It's located at the back, where we stayed, it's quiet, has it's own bar, washrooms and is right next to the buffet. We spent almost all our time here.
I'd recommend the Rythyms of the night tour, or the one that goes there during the day, done both and they're awesome..
If you see a deal come up for the Decameron, book it, it's well worth it when it's on sale, I'd probably opt out if it went over a thousand per person and go for the in room fridge and fancier room, just because they are out there for that price, but the Decameron is a nice, clean safe trip, guarunteed.

We travelled with 3 daughters, 2 sons in law and 3 children aged 2, 4 and 5. We had 4 rooms in Block 6 and we couldn't have asked for a better holiday. The service and food was excellent! We had been here 10 years ago and the improvements in the food selections were terrific. We would all go back today if we could!

Room Tip: Block 6 is usually very quiet except when new groups come in. But after one day of sun and a night...

My Fiancee and I had such a good time at this resort we are planning on going back and can't wait! This will be my 6th visit to Mexico, I have stayed at 5 stars and private residents, however for being only a 3 star I was impressed! The rooms are very clean and each has it's own balcony, beds are very comfortable, no problem with the room. We stayed in block 5 adults only, so if you want quiet and don't want kids running around this is the place for you. Remember the rooms do not have refridgerators which I found to be a bit strange, however I really didn't miss it like I thought I might.

Food was excellent! There is a large selection so no problem there! We did go to Bucerias a couple of times to eat and you must try Fat Boys, right on the beach, excellent sea food and the best Margaritas! Ladies get the second one free!

The locals are extremely friendly, friendlier than any other place I have travelled in Mexico!

The beach is large and you can walk for miles, however the water is not the carribean, you are on the pacific side after all. If your into boogie boarding or body surfing you will like it!

The entertainment is the best I have ever seen, we went 4 nights in row, I have never seen such talented dancers.....the bar by the beach is open until midnight or later and is a great place to meet others or just to relax with drink!

Hey this is your holiday you can make it what you want, it's not glitzy, but it's fun, relaxing or whatever you want to make it! The sunsets are beautiful....have fun!

You will meet Oscar on the beach. He is a very nice trust worthy activity organizer. My family and friends went fishing which Oscar organized. They caught their limit with in the first hour and a half (five forty pound tunas) he then had the fish cooked at a true mexican restaurant where they were served a five course meal that all revolved around the fish. It was awesome!!!!! Our quading trip to the tequilla factory was also through Oscar. Thanks Oscar, the Vos's and the Rafters
