It was really hot, so we headed toward the few restaurants along the beach just off the center of Bucerias, and were drawn in to El Chivero by the 2 for one Margaritas and bucket of beer specials. It was a Sunday evening, and this is a real spot for locals. Sit in the sand under a palapa umbrella, bring the kids and dogs, kick off your sandals and relax! The kids can play in the water while you sip your beers, that come in a bucket of ice. The guacamole is great, very fresh, and they make their own chips on the premise. I know you might think I am crazy, but the fresh oysters are to die for, dug right out of the bay, and as big as your palm. If you want a little less casual, you can move up stairs and sit by the window. The only drawback, if you want to call it that, is that you will be pelted by the beach vendors and mariachis every two minutes. But on the other hand, pretty good deals can be had there and where else can you shop and drink cold beer at the same time? Or get your wife a foot massage right in her chair. And I actually like mariachis. But friendly service, great authentic fresh food, ultra relaxed atmosphere, and the kids can run around, swim and dig in the sand while you fade into the sunset.
