“great getaway from the city”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 15, 2012

When I first drove through the Silver Lake Resort last spring I wasn't too impressed. The weather was gloomy and the grounds seemed cluttered. However, a trip back a few days ago proved you can't always trust your first impressions! This place is great! I stayed in a hotel unit which is right on the water - no, right IN the water. A few balconies down from me were what seemed like some Mt St Helens scientists judging from their talk. Petty cool and I can imagine that those that study the mountain might come here. Anyway, words cannot express the great vibe that I got here. This is an old, rustic resort full of nostalgia, great for families, nature lovers and fisherman. The lake is cozy but large and the waterfront area invites you to go out and explore it (I didn't). At night, you can sit by a fire or on your balcony and tell stories. Don't expect a fancy place full of modern comforts and luxuries. Do expect a quiet, cozy spot on a lake where you can get away from the city for a day. Its another world from the Seattle area or Portland, but only an hours drive. I like how it is approximately equidistant from both of them. On my next trip (guaranteed) I want to try a cabin or maybe camp out. Or just sit by the lake. The Silver Lake Resort is for me!

Well we made the reservation paid the money, drove down pulled in and left! The sites are not spacious there is NO privacy and they are all right on the road. We ended up going up the road a few miles and stayed at eco park NOW THIS IS FABULOUS camping people!

We have a WONDERFUL view with a deck overhanging the lake...fishing from your own deck, or off the dock. The lake is very scenic; great view of Mt St Helens; staff was helpful; and if you forget your fishing gear (as i did!) you can rent poles and gear. WiFi was good for checking weather around the area; clean rooms, fully equipped with full fridge, stove, and microwave. Us and our boys LOVED it here. P.S. if you plan on renting a pontoon boat, reserve it when you get the room so they are available.

WE pulled in here with our rv and thought OMG what have we done. The place did not look like I expected. Registered and the store which was very minimal and were sent to site 5. They did not tell us the one side of site 5 is an old abandoned storage locker. I kept waiting fore someone to come by and auction it off. Site was very small and we had a hard time evenparking off the road.

The kids thoroughly enjoyed the fishing although there was not much biting the whole time we were there. Fishing rod rentals were reasonably priced at 5 dollars for the day and the people working in the store as well and the site hosts were very friendly.

I would not have liked to stay in a cabin or motel as they appreared fromt the outside to have "cooties" to me. I can't really say but the cabins looked VERY rustic. I don't know how much they cost so I can't say if it was fair. We paid about 30 dollars for an rv site with only partial hook up. The play ground was not much and somethings shown on the website were not there. There was also a roped off area dug up right near there. You would think that type of work would be done BEFORE the high season? The store also sold dog food to feed the ducks and I'm not sure that's too good for them.

The bathrooms were somewhat old and gross with curtains not doors on the stalls and a fairly nasty shower curtain in the shower. But, there was good hot water.

But we had fun on the dock, enjoyed the grassy area and the fire pit area was nice. However, we went to go down there with a glass of wine and were told by other campers who were already there that they were a SOBER cycling club and basically we were not welcome with out drinks. Just because you used to have a problem and I never have that means I can't come down there. That kind of ruined the night for us. Luckily they left the next day.

The view of the mountain was lovely and if I had a better site we might come back some time.

We're sorry your visit here wasn't to your liking.
-Unfortunately, we didn't have an opportunity to show you the inside of the cabins. They are actually very cozy, quaint, and clean. No "cooties" ever reported.
-The "cycling club" that stayed here was a tremendously courteous, friendly, and polite group of people. Enjoying alcohol on our premises is permitted, and we're sorry that wasn't your understanding.
-The work that should've been done before the high season, was actually an unexpected repair that we had no control over, nor any planning that could've been done.
-Finally, the dog food we sell is perfectly fine for the ducks to eat., at least more nutritious than bread.

We had a great time at the resort. The staff and services were great. The grounds are kept very neat and clean, and there is plenty of room to fish from the shore line. There is a fantastic view of Mount St. Helens and Mount Rainier when you are at the middle of the lake. We will be returning several time this year.

Room Tip: Great place to visit and relax

We had a BLAST at Silver Lake Resort. Patty, the manager, was amazing and very customer service oriented. Whatever we needed, she and her staff provided. The room was cute and clean, and we fished right off the balcony. It also had a kitchenette so we brought our own grub which made our little vacation more affordable. We rented a pontoon boat and spent one day out on the lake which was beautiful. The kids took a paddle boat out for a while one day too. Anything we needed was available at the little store on site. Although we only caught little fish, we were able to see others catching the big ones that got away from us. We are DEFINITELY coming back up to Silver Lake.

Room Tip: Loved the corner suite - larger balcony.

We spent three nights in the Silver Suite and had a great time. Clean, comfortable and very reasonably priced pretty much fit the bill for a mid-vacation stop. The staff were very helpful. We wanted to get some hiking in so the proximity to Mt. St. Helens area trails was just great. We will be back for the fishing next time.

Room Tip: Silver Suite was a great choice fo us.
