“Weekend away”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 24, 2012

We celebrated our anniversary by treating ourselves to a weekend away. My spouse likes privacy and this is a top spot for that. The Pines, a small cottage, 50 meters or so from the main dwelling. Set in a rural setting surrounded by country gardens and trees. The cottage is fully self contained with supplies for cooking one's breakfast and having a snack. Lovely home baked bread, fruit from the orchard, the best free range eggs etc. The main house has a magnificent library and also some rooms for B&B. They look very nice as well. A 1907 beauty magnificently restored.
We stayed for two nights. Another fresh loaf of bread, a lovely date loaf and another bowl of fruit. Nice walks to be had around the farm. I see that Otahuna is for sale. I hope that the new owners maintain the standards set by Trish and Mary. One can see pictures of the place on open2view and the id is 255259.

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our 3 nights in the Pines self contained cottage at the Otahuna Country House near Featherston from 15 October 2011.

The cottage is a very cosy place to stay. It is very modern inside, spotlessly clean and spacious. The bed is very comfortable with quality linen and the kitchen and bathroom are both fully equipped with everything that you could possibly need. The farm is located in a quiet and idyllic setting and provides an ideal base for touring around the Wairarapa region. We enjoyed walking around the farm after a long day of sightseeing. The total experience was perfect starting with a friendly welcome, easy parking next to the cottage and great breakfast ingredients including free range bacon and eggs, tomatoes, home baked bread and fruit.

The hosts are very friendly, obliging and generous. They not only ensured that gluten free ingredients were provided for my wife to make her breakfast but also baked a gluten free treat which we found in the cottage when we arrived back each day. They also gave us a jar of chili jam as a departing gift. This is an excellent place to stay which is highly recommended.

Room Tip: The Pines cottage suited us perfectly being self contained so we could make our breakfast and use th...

Fabulous experience and highly recommended. Loved having the cosy fireplace in the bedroom going when we arrived at night. Farm fresh breakfast was great and the coffee was awesome. We really enjoyed exploring the property the next morning and seeing all the animals. We were very grateful to our hosts for going out of their way for us. They went over and above what they needed to do in order to ensure that our weekend was very special. - Kerri and Mark.

The service is exceptional! Mary, Paul, Tricia, and Tim are such wonderful hosts. The rooms are very clean and decorated in a very classic and comfortable way. The en-suite bathroom was squeaky clean. The towels were warm and soft. The bed was very comfortable. My partner and I slept better than we had in a long time. The library, lounge, deck, and breakfast areas are very inviting. I could spend months in the library! Breakfast was great! There were many options of real cooked foods- none of that continental breakfast generic stuff. One of my favorite foods was the canned plums. Yummo! Overall, I completely recommend this place for anyone who would like a nice, quiet, relaxing, romantic get away. It is very close to Martinborough (less than 15 minutes drive) and also to Lake Ferry and Cape Palliser.
