Castlepoint Holiday Park and Motels

Probably the most basic you could expect in a motel.

A good stay doesn't start through passive aggression by the staff.

Rooms are of good size, but feel like they haven't had any update of amenities for a good few decades. Beds are uncomfortable, TV is tiny, and don't expect sky. For $140 a night, this place is a total rip off.

Good value for money and located right on the beach.. Make sure you take all your own stuff though as the opening hours for the local store are limited. Also pack correct change for the showers and don't expect the water to be hot for the most part.. Good summer stay over though.

We stopped for one night on a powered site, whilst travelling between Napier and Wellington. Really lovely stop off, with very clean amenities and a great location over looking the sea/beach and the lighthouse. Very quiet and peaceful setting and well worth the slight detour off the main highway. The owners were very friendly and accommodating and we very much enjoyed our stay. Definitely take a trip further down the road and visit the lighthouse and we took a walk along the beach and saw a seal very close to the beach, altogether delightful.

Stayed here in a tent over Easter 2013. Had a great time, the facilities are excellent and well maintained. Great neighbours too - other campgrounds I've stayed at have a problem with noisy inhabitants of the permanent cabins, but you won't find that problem here. Just make sure you bring everything you need because there is only one shop and it's not very well stocked. Also beware, there's no phone coverage except Telecom. Also had a little problem getting on the wifi with my iPad, lucky I also had my laptop which let me on just fine.
You couldn't ask for a better setting or a more relaxed atmosphere however... ideal place to come for some R&R.

Room Tip: Watch out for wind - if you have a dome tent you might have a difficult experience if the wind gets...

Was very impressed with this place! Me and a friend spent one night in a tent here. We got a great site literally right on the beach front. Bathroom area was extremely clean with plenty of facilities for everyone. Although we didn't use the kitchen area it was very clean and we were surprised to find out there were fridges and a freezer free to use. BBQ facilities are available for free which was awesome! People at reception were very friendly and helpful, will definitely be staying here again next visit!

Room Tip: If you don't mind ocean noise, ask for a site on the beach front!

We had intended on staying for three nights at Castlepoint over New Year, however in a dome tent the wind had other ideas... the facilities were great and the neighbours all very lovely and helpful. We survived Dec 30th but on the 31st the wind snapped one of the tent poles and then its replacement about half an hour later. Tent got binned and we hot-footed it back home just in time to put the kettle on for New Year's Eve, then bed! Dwight's Outdoors got some of our hard-earned cash the following day and we look forward to taking that new canvas tent back there at Easter. What a gorgeous location Castlepoint is! All very clean, too, wonderful facilities and very friendly staff.

Room Tip: No fitness centre... not sure why that's in there.

Our family stayed at Castlepoint Holiday Park over the Christmas period and have to say the staff where some of the friendliest people we have come across. Nothing was a problem and went out of there way to make us feel extremely welcome. The toilet & showers where some of the cleanest we have experienced in New Zealand. Great cooking facilities. The beaches are amazing and would recommend staying here as a must.
Thanks for making our stay such a memorable experience. We have already re-booked out site for next year and can't wait to be back.
