“Nice stay”
Reviewed January 13, 2014

Great location. Very quiet when we stayed. There was a bit noise from the nightclub but considering we were very near, it was not at all intrusive. Apartment typical Italian alpine, wood clad and textured painted walls. Ours was very spacious with double bedroom + ensuite. Ski clothing storage cupboard. Main bathroom, decent sized living area with nice little kitchenette, which had ample cutlery, pots and pans. We were able to cook all manner of meals. There is also a microwave. Nice panoramic windows in kitchen net and master bedroom, which opened right out. Huge balcony area with table and chairs. Ample room on balcony for wet skis and boots, we brought our boots back in later and put in storage cupboard so they were nice and warm for the next day. Hair dryer in ensuite worked fine. Bathrobes and slippers provided. Plenty of bedding and if anything the room was too hot. Rooms were serviced a couple of times during our stay, and the chambermaids were always happy to give you clean towels sheets if you asked them in the mornings. Hotels reception was of course busy when we first arrived, as it would be when one or two bus loads arrived more or less together! There was ample shops to buy your main staples, but the supermarket was closed when we arrived at 7pm. There was however a vending machine with milk, coffee, sugar, pop, etc etc. there was also a few satchels of complimentary tea, coffee, hot chocolate and sugar in the room. Wifi was non existstant in apartments and you had to go to the hotel lobby/ bar area to use it, which was the only downside, especially as you had to pay for it! The ski area was great, with the main lift located right next to the hotel and no queues, access to the slopes was very quick. There is also the nursery/beginners slope opposite the hotel. Decent restaurants/ bars on the slopes. The ski pass includes skiing over to La Rosssiere with the chance to spent a day in Courmayer and Pila. Some lovely restaurants in La Thuile for evening meals. We really enjoyed our stay here and would visit again. The staff we spoke to in the hotel were alway friendly and polite.

booked for New Year with Crystal a week before and travelled with an 8 & 9 year old from Doncaster. Flights and transfers were perfect although Turin airport is complete chaos upon arrival with numerous UK flights all arriving together and suitcases left on the tarmac as you sail past on the bus (seems a usual complaint). No mucking about swapping buses or waiting for endless arrivals though. Room keys issued immediately by noon and a voucher for a free ski locker through Only Ski. Early flights meant we were all kitted out and could have even skied a few hours on the arrival day. Apartment is fantastic size compared to the French coin montagne equivalent and a great deal cleaner as there is a twice weekly maid service rather than relying on other tourists doing it with inadequate cleaning equipment! There is no washing up equipment so take your own fairy liquid, teatowel and a scourer and obviously take as much tea/coffee/cereal/mars bars as you can squueze in as these are expensive in the resort. Also mugs if you can as there are only tiny teacups!! Having said that, there is a well stocked supermarket and butcher so it's easy to live off spag bol, bread, cheese and salami very cheaply if you want to. There are annoying little things missing like a chopping board and spatulas/cooking spoons, but nothing you can't manage without, especially given that this holiday costs only £200 per head in January....Heating is good, hot water plentiful from the shower head not the bath taps and C means hot!!! Beds are clean and cosy but a bit lumpy in places. As you'd expect, the TV only has world service news in English but we took some films for the kids in the evenings and could use an adaptor to run them through the tv. The locals all speak excellent English and appreciate you trying to speak a bit of Italian, even if it comes out like Spanish or French, they were all very friendly and a good deal more cheery, although this can mean some late night singing at bar emtying time.
We rented our equipment via Snowell and got a free set for a child and free helmets, saving a bomb on Crystal prices, please check before being suckered in to your tour operator as it's simple to arrange yourself! Also to note, you get a free lift pass for children under 8 (or born before the end of October in their 8th year) which we weren't expecting and saved over 100e. Ski area is really great but difficult to ski back to the resort unless you are competent on easy blacks or you don't mind pole-ing quite some distance pulling a child! Also links back from Rosiere are pomas so be aware if you have a wobbly child....
You can get the local bus to Courmayeur for a change of scene as you'll probably ski La Tuile/Rosiere out in 6 days. It cost 2e each way from Bosco chairlift but allow at least an hour to get to the ski area (not the 20 mins we were told by the rep!) as you have to get a local ski bus from Tourist Information in Courmayeur and then get up the mountain by cable car so a bit of a faff but worth the effort if you get going early. The bus times are available from the rep and the lifts are included on your pass.
In summary I would recommend to anyone looking to ski at a decent price, especially families and groups. If you want five star then you will have to get your wallet dusted down and pay a lot more euros.

very good location. I cannot comment on the staff because apert from check in i didn't see any staff, but the place was really good value for money, we had 3 of us in a room for 4, which was fine but would of been a squeeze with 4.
Very clean place and close to shops and bars.
No complaints at all

Stay here in jan 2013 with 2 kids. Great location and really helpful staff. Loved the fact that we only needed to walk across the road to the slopes. Room was ok nothing special but had come to ski. Rep was really helpful.

Great skiing area but very windy on the slopes and lifts. The children got cold on the lifts. The pool you needed to wear swimming hats.

The butchers shop was excellent great meat and good choices.

Had a great skiing holiday.

Like the fact we could keep skis on balcony .

Great location with kids

Ski school excellent but could do to speak more English

We have been at the Planibel in a weekend and fortunatelly took the Residence option and not the full board one. They advertise atractions but I think the only attraction is to be at the ski lifts and lanes. Rooms are large but very basic and the advantage of the Residence is to go to the supermarket downstairs and buy what is needed for your family spending not too much. Service is poor and the garage where you let the car is dark and a little scary, if you forgot something to pick in the car at night. Wonderful views and location for skiers are the Planibel strong points.

Dont know what the hotel rooms were like but the apartments where extremely basic and I mean basic only 2 hot rings to cook on and even that was a hit or miss no kettle just as well I packed travel kettle as I like my tea and coffee. Advertised sat tv but pls note this was local sat tv only 1 English channel and there's only so much of BBC world news you can watch. As for wifi you could not get it in the apts you had to sit at reception or bar to receive it at 5 euros an hour. Not a great variety of restuarants in village and 2 bars on site which provided food but not a great choice. The pool and sauna area were an added bonus but an extra 100 euros for a family of 4 for the week and everyone must wear a swim cap before being allowed in pool which the hotel did not provide and had to go to local sports shop to buy one also extra charge for towels if you don't bring your own. The location next to the main gondola and lifts were the best bit about the apts but I would say if your a novice skier there are no green runs and some of the blue runs can get a bit steep in places. The apts need to upgrade fully especially cooking facilities and hotel staff need to stop treating guests that stay in the apts instead of the hotel as second class citizens.

Room Tip: Try to get an apartment nearer the hotel as some are quite a walk away.

Just back from a fantastic Ski trip to La Thuile in Italy. Stayed at the Planibel Apartments for the forth time, which is a testiment in its own. Theses apartments have everything you could want and are a very short walk away from the Ski lifts.
