Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed December 31, 2013

My family and I have just returned from a wonderful stay at this hotel. I struggle to find anything bad to say about it.

What really makes them exceptional is the superb service. As soon as we arrived we were given a tour of the facilities of the hotel, which is a nice way to feel welcome and start to settle in. One of our rooms was exceptionally hot, so the first night we had to open the windows (in December) to make the temperature bearable. This seems to be a very common problem in ski hotels during winter, but when John, the manager, asked me the following morning if everything was okay I mentioned it just in case and he was instantly dealing with the issue. After several hours of work, the engineer replaced the thermostat unit and we had proper control of the temperature.

Another example is that, at breakfast on the first day, we asked whether ketchup was available (to go with the bacon, sausage and omelette) and were told very apologetically that it was not, but then the lady who looks after the breakfast room had a quick word with her colleague and asked us to wait a couple of minutes, so we assumed there was some available in a storeroom. However, a couple of minutes later the colleague reappeared and had apparently rushed out to the nearest shop to buy ketchup specially and had brought some mayonnaise as well, just in case! Every morning, we were offered the ketchup bottle as soon as we appeared. And on the last morning our bottle was running out so a fresh bottle appeared. A tiny gesture in one way, but not one in a hundred hotels would have had staff who would have gone to the bother of doing this.

We were there from 21 December to 28 December and the hotel was extremely quiet until about 26 December. The resort as a whole was the same, very quiet until Christmas itself was over, when there was a noticeable influx of Italians, although still very quiet compared to most ski resorts during holiday season. Even after the hotel had become "busy", we still had the wellness area (two Jacuzzis and two saunas) to ourselves at 6 PM every evening.

The location is extremely good for skiing. Other than the soulless hotel complex right beside the ski gondola, this hotel is the closest to the lifts and is no more than a few hundred metres away. At the same time, it is just far enough away to feel peaceful and calm, nestled between trees and a picnic area. Very quiet at night other than a couple of early morning disturbances from snowploughs on the road outside, which can't be helped.

Breakfast was very good, including hot bacon, omelette slices and tiny sausages.

The rooms were extremely nice and the beds very comfortable.

If we return to this resort, we will certainly be booking this hotel.

La Thuile may be known for skiing (about 150 km in the area) but it is also wonderful in the summer. Just a short walk to town from the hotel, next to a great restaurant, across from a little park with a gorgeous large river running through, the staff cannot help more with advice and service. The woman in charge of breakfast ran around answering every request (and with a group of 14, we had a lot of requests). She would even make sure that what seemed to move more at breakfast would appear in larger quantities as our trip progressed. The manager suggested we take a tour of old copper mines organized by the town (no charge). Those in the group that used the jacuzzis were very happy. The price was great, rooms were lovely. Not to be missed.

The hotel offers ideal conditions for a pleasant rest: a well-chosen interior in Alpine style, spacious rooms with furniture of natural wood, 2 jacuzzis, 2 saunas, relaxation area, gym, heated ski locker, underground parking with direct access to the hotel’s elevators. In two steps from hotel there is an excellent restaurant. In two minutes walk from the hotel there is a funicular, next to which there are several small shops, the supermarket, another restaurant and several bars. The room has everything you need: LCD TV, wi-fi, fridge, and even these pleasant little things like a kettle and slippers. Cleaning is done very carefully, so that the entire hotel is just shines. In the lobby next to the bar are spacious and comfortable sofas, where you can sit in the evening aperitif, which includes a variety of snacks and canapes. Breakfast is quite varied: scrambled eggs, ham, a large selection of cheeses, pastries, fruits, etc. The coffee machine allows you to make several types of coffee and chocolate. It should be noted hospitality of hotel staff, with their attention to every detail to create a friendly atmosphere and are always ready to help in solving any problems. Special thanks to the hotel manager John, who personally showed us the hotel and provided us with a lot of useful information, including about the local attractions, which helped us perfectly spend our holiday. Also we are grateful to Oanna for cognitive conversations in the native us Russian language about Italy and the local tradition. This is the hotel, in which we want to return and we certainly will recommend it to our friends.

Just returned from a family ski trip at La Thuile, Italy, spending 5 nights at Boton D'Or in their Family Suite (for 4 people). When I made the booking initially, I emailed them to confirm putting another baby cot in the room as we had 4 adults and a toddler; and to also ask for early check-in so that we had a room to babysit while the others went out skiing on the first day. They responded quickly and were able to accommodate everything we asked for. When we arrived, the room was already cleaned and prepared - ready immediately, with the cot already in place. We were taken for a personal tour by John (the hotel manager?) to see not just our room, but all the hotel facilities from the ski room to the jacuzzi and where to find the wall with a map to local restaurants. When we went out for dinner, they gave us excellent recommendations for good local restaurants - some restaurants also gave up to 10% discounts to Boton D'Or customers. As someone else has commented, the hotel is pretty much perfect in every way - excellent attention to detail, very friendly staff with no exceptions (but particularly thank you John and Matteo), excellent personal service.

Highlights for me:
- the wellness centre with the sauna, jacuzzi and relax room;
- Matteo's cocktails at the bar, complimentary snacks every evening
- John's dinner recommendations
- Loved the room itself with its charming wooden beams - and the family suite comes equipped already with a child-safe safety gate; again it's the attention to detail
- Location is ideal for a ski trip, walking distance to the main ski area for the gondola, nursery slopes and ski school. Not quite ski in / ski out, but close (if they could negotiate cutting down a tree or two in the future, it's surely not that far from the red 6 ski run!)

All in all, a wonderful stay and hopefully we'll be seeing you next season!

Just back from Italy . Stayed in this fantastic hotel in la thuile. Everything about it oozes quality, from the rooms to the lovely wellness centre. The paintings on the walls give the hotel a charming feel . John and his team made us feel very welcome in the 3 nights we stayed. Nothing is too much trouble. The bar area is welcoming and the selection of nibbles in the evening, that are free when you buy a drink, tasty! Don't worry about the fact it's just b& b as there are lots of restaurants nearby. We will be back ....thanks to all

We spent 5 nights here recently and everything was great. The hotel was clean, warm, modern, efficient, perfect location for the lifts. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, especially John, who has a great sense of humour! There was an extensive choice at breakfast and we loved the relaxation zone and jacuzzis after a hard days skiing! The reception lounge area was lovely for meeting up with our friends and playing cards after a night out. If you buy a drink from the bar there is a great selection of nibbles to tuck into. Great value and a nice touch. Thank you all, we had a fantastic time n La Thuile and will definitely return one day.

Just back from a weeks family skiing holiday and had the pleasure of staying at the Boton d'Or. The staff simply couldn't do enough to help you. Very friendly staff with the Hotel manager (John) leading by example....The hotel is fairly new and relatively small which allows the staff to give you a real personal touch that makes you feel at home from the moment you arrive....The only slight down side is that the hotel doesn't have any evening dinning facilities but even this has been handled in smart way of having pre dinner drinks with a nice selection on anti pasta style food that you are free to help your self too prior to heading out for dinner.... A real gem of a Hotel that the staff clearly take pride in....
