We stayed in the Sea Lion appartment and it was very comfortable & cozy with a spacious living area (living room, dining room, kitchen, TV & even DVDs), a big bedroom and a bathroom. Free Wi fi too.
The appartment has a small yard with an outdoor table and can have direct access to the beach.
The other appartment on the top has a lovely terrace too.

The owner is very nice, the lodge is good value too.

Room Tip: The upperfloor appartment must have lovely views, however the one downstairs has direct access to th...

Sensational view, beautiful self contained accommodation, way more than a simple b&b. Well equipped, spacious & facilities to cook for yourself if you want. While we had originally planned to eat out we couldn't tear ourselves away so made do with pasta & luckily a bottle of great NZ pinot. Yes, the bottom unit does not have the unrivalled view that the top one has but still great accommodation, particularly in this out of the way spot. Perfect location to visit the nugget point lighthouse (more fantastic views), seals & you might spot a penguin if you're lucky! Was really happy with the breakfast provided unobtrusively in the afternoon for us to have the next day. You wouldn't want to sit down for a full cooked breakfast with other guests when you can stay in your PJ's & look at that view!

Room Tip: If you want the best view, yes, you'll have to book the room on the upper level.

We rented the lighthouse unit for 3 nights. It was magical. The views were wonderful, and we didn't want to move. We had our own private beach, with our own sea lion! Rock pooling, collecting shells, just chilling out. The Catlins is the perfect place to see wildlife - dolphins, penguins, seals etc. We loved it & can't wait to go back. J & J Oxford England

Room Tip: Choose the lighthouse suite. Sunsets, & views are fantastic + sitting on the balcony, drinking w...

Highly recommended. Friendly and helpful hosts, a lovely people-free area and stunning views. Any closer to the sea and you'd need windscreen wipers for storms. We had a wonderful stay and would happily return.

Lovely views from the garden of Sealion Unit to an empty beach (if you're lucky it may not be entirely empty - sealions visit here to lie on the beach).
Peaceful, simple but clean unit with everything you need including binoculars and even games for rainy days as well as heaps of local info.
One of the most comofrtable matresses I ever met, and a view from the bed onto the rocky little beach below. Outdoor setting in the garden overlooking the other little beach.
Great base for exploring this part of the Catlins - short drive to Nugget Point lighthouse and Roaring Bay penguin-viewing hide.
Delightful hostess and simply the perfect place to restore your sanity.

Room Tip: Only two units - both obviously have slightly different views but the location is so delightful I am...

The Nugget Lodge is absolutely breathtaking! Situated by itself on a small point with beautiful empty beaches stretching in both directions, we felt as if we were the only people for miles. We were lulled to sleep by the sound of the waves below and enjoyed our breakfast on a small private lawn. The accommodations are simple, but clean, cozy, and comfortable. We were amazed by the beauty of the spot and only wish we’d had more than one quick night there. Try for the upstairs room if you can, but the Sea Lion room certainly won’t disappoint. We arrived late at night and Pauline, the owner, was so welcoming and friendly.

Room Tip: "Lighthouse" must be incredible, but our "Sea Lion" room was amazing as well!

Spent two nights at Nugget Lodge over xmas - a warm welcome from Pauline on xmas eve and then out to watch the hoiho coming in at Roaring Bay and walk to the lighthouse and watch the seals around Nugget Point. Then a day relaxing, swimming in the sea and walking on the beach on xmas day. It's such a beautiful spot and the seclusion of the units is great. I've stayed at Nugget Lodge twice before - once under the previous owners and the second time after Pauline and Willy took over - all three trips have been perfect. Having previously stayed in the Sealion unit downstairs with a mate, this time I was up in the Lighthouse unit with my partner. Both units are great, Sealion giving you your own garden overlooking the beach and Lighthouse your own balcony overlooking the ocean. This is a place to come to, bring your food to cook meals in your unit and then either relax completely or use the excellent location to explore the Caitlins. Effectively a home away from home and lots of info available in units to help you plan daytrips etc.

Room Tip: Lighthouse unit is upstairs, with entrance via the balcony/verandah which overlooks the unit, with a...
