We have been staying at this tranquil motel for years. Recently we have seen some great improvements of presentation, cleanliness and unobtrusive service. Its unique park-like setting next to the (my) favorite fishing river is hard to find in this busy world. And, as importantly, my wife loves the walks along the river she can explore without having to get into the car. You wake up to a concert of the resident native bird choir and for the rest of the day you enjoy the relaxed atmosphere. The place is well serviced but you hardly feel disturbed. We love the non-artificial environment that is at all times supported by a very genuinely friendly management. At times we stay for a little holiday. The units are geared up for more than a one night's stay. We are always happy to cater for ourselves with the generous kitchen and dining area available. As a bonus to us we can bring our dog who also likes the pleasant place away from home. We are not even looking at going anywhere else!

We stayed for a long weekend in the winter time with an 18 month old and our family dog. This place was absolutely fantastic and suited all our needs perfectly. The accommodation is modern, clean, very warm and had eveythig we needed for an enjoyable stay. The hosts were exceptional, friendly and very informative on local activities. John is a real fishing enthuisist and shared his knowledge to help me secure a catch. The magnificient river running on the back boundary is nothing short of spectacular. Great place to fish, swim the dog and walk the family. And of course its very close to those superb mountains. We loved it so much we came back with family the next week and have another stay booked winter 2008. Great place! Great Hosts! Ya mad if you stay anywhere else!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We have stayed at Creel Lodge for the last couple of years for family holidays and we have booked in to stay again this year.

Each year our daughter, and our big black dog are made welcome. It's great being right by the river and river track, where we can all take walks with Elvis the dog, go for a run or ride our mountain bikes, we need only pop through the back gate of Creel Lodges' property and we are ready for an adventure.

This year we plan to make the most of the proximity to the skiing on Mt Ruapehu and take the girls sleding on the snow. We'll also explore more of the Turangi National Park area on our bikes.

Last year we shared a cabin with a family friends, so there were 4 adults and 2 girls, and 2 dogs all bunking down together. There was plenty of room, hot showers and laughs. And the dogs, parents and girls all had a lovely time.

We'd recommend Creel Lodge to family's, groups and your humble pooch. We'll be back next year!

Have now stayed at Creel 7 or 8 times and will be back for more. Stays have ranged from family holidays to boys golfing/fishing weekends and this place cannot be beaten for quality and value. Set in the most stunning and beautifully kept grounds right on the banks of the Tongariro River, Creel is Lake Taupo's best kept secret. It is spotless, comfortable and extremely welcoming. Look no further

I travel a lot and so get am pretty hard to impress. Creel Lodge came recommended to me and I am not disappointed. The managers are very friendly, genuine and flexible. I ended up coming on my own, and was moved to a 1 bedroom unit from a 2 bedroom unit, charged less, and given a riverside unit. So many other places would have charged me for the bigger unit. The units are immaculate (slightly dated, but this is rural NZ so what do you expect !) and very well appointed. The site is quiet, beautifully landscaped and free wireless is the icing on the cake. For this price and at this quality, there cannot be an alternative for Turangi accommodation.

Once of those great finds. Here again, we drove into town without reservations and used i-SITE for guidance.

The accomodations were very good. Spacious, clean, very comforable.
River out back was a trout fisherman's dream. As seen on TV specials and magazines. I have never seen any trout river that was so perfect!

Due to travel commitments we only stayed 2 nights. Next time we would stay at least 4 nights, possibly 5.

I do not have the skill with words to adequately describe the river, mountains, and general location justice.

On a trip from Australia we had booked accommodation at Creel Lodge upon recommendation from some friends who have been regular visitors to lodge for years. The second we drove through the entrance of Creel I instantly felt relaxed and content. The gardens are the first thing to take you by surprise. They are completely lush and beautifully maintained. Despite there being numerous cabins, you would hardly know that the others existed with each being nestled into a prime spot on the property surrounded by trees and with a lovely outlook which we enjoyed from our own covered outdoor patio. We stayed in a 2 bedroom garden suite which was perfect for our needs. The suite was spotless and with crisp clean sheets and a fully equiped kitchen it was like a home away from home only better! The Tongariro River is literally just at the bottom of the garden and we thoroughly enjoyed taking advantage of the walks along it's banks. The managers, John and Lyn are delightful and were more than happy to suggest activities in the area and book them for us! We enjoyed an early morning trout fish on Lake Taupo and it was arranged for our caught fish to be smoked and packaged so that we could take them back to Australia with us! Don't think twice about staying here, just book it!
