“Very basic and cheap”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 11, 2013

We stayed at this campsite for two nights in a cabin.
Cabins are very little, very basic but clean.
The Staff was pleasant and very helpful.
Also the showers and toilets were very basic but clean.
A place where to come back because very cheap and calm.

We foudn the holiday park completely by accident, but so glad we did. First impressions looking at the place weren't the best. But with friendly staff, great showers along with supersized bath towels and quite possibly the comfiest bed I have ever found it was an awesome place to stay the night. Yes the cabin was small, but I find when it comes to sleeping a bed and a roof are the most important things. This may not be your 5 star accomadation, but niether does it have a 5 star price. There was a small play area and lots of space for our four year old to burn off some energy. Hot (and powerful) showers, and the lady that checked us in recommended the truck stop for dinner, again, not my first choice, but wonderful food at a great price. We only could stay the night, but I think if you were exploring the area this would make a great place to stay for longer.

Stayed at this campsite for two nights with a campervan on a powered site. Quite nice grounds with large, well-spaced, grassy plots, with some tall trees giving shade when required. Very pleasant and helpful staff who did their best to make you feel welcome. Just a short walk from the shopping area where there was a large supermarket. A good area to stay to visit the Tongariro National Park and the volcanic mountains with some wonderful walks, as well as the Tokaanu Thermal Pools. Do not bother with the natural mineral pools here or the fresh water pool as Rotorua is much better but the free 20minute thermal bush walk to see steaming hot mineral pools set in sinter basins and spluttering mud pots amongst native bush is well worth a visit. At the campsite there were separate washrooms for showers, with washhand basins but no soap or hand-dryers, and another block with toilet facilities. To have to use two separate blocks was a nuisance. Both were old and well-worn and badly needed renovation and upgrading, as did the kitchen and cooking facilities. To be fair, the campsite changed hands in March 2011 and a notice apologised for the facilities and said they were working on revamping the site and to bear with them! The work must have been going on elsewhere as I saw no evidence of this.
