“A memorable birthday lunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 20, 2013

I had a birthday lunch for 61 at Lakeland House on Sunday. Wow…. the location is absolutely superb; the food was absolutely superb; the service was absolutely superb. The entrée platter was to die for…. people commented particularly on the pate (it must be ”home” made!) and the stuffed prawn sticks. We all had generous main course portions – I don’t think there was anything on the menu which wasn’t delicious. The staff were attentive and friendly – couldn’t be faulted. The chef Francis and manager Natasha were relaxed, friendly and very efficient AND even dropped off lost property to us at home the next day. The venue, right on the shore of Lake Taupo, is spectacular. A fantastic restaurant and very memorable birthday lunch.

“What a stunning location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 5, 2013

After calling in for a beer one hot, sunny afternoon and loving the location, we looked at the dinner menu and decided that we had to go back and sample some of their food.
We shared a Carbonara for entree and they split it onto 2 plates which was nice and made it easier to share. The portions were more than adequate but it was served on cold plates. Why do they do that? We would also have preferred the pasta to have been cooked a bit more for our taste but understand that al dente is the correct way. Our mains were the Lamb Rack which was superb and cooked medium rare to perfection, and the Duck Breast which was pink inside and crispy skinned. They were both delicious. The Panacotta was nice and came with lovely fresh seasonal fruit.
We would love to return and sample more of their fare. Perhaps in summer when the outside tables and view over the lake could be enjoyed into the night.

“Still good!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 31, 2013

I reviewed this place about 18 months ago and I am pleased to say it is even better than it was then... I booked a table for 14 for a birthday lunch. The meals were all fantastic, tasty and well presented and a good varied menu. Those who chose steaks said they were tender and cooked to perfection. The mud cake I had ordered for a birthday cake was moist and delicious. The staff are excellent, thanks Alana for being so pleasant and efficient to deal with. Even on a cold winter's day the restaurant was warm and welcoming. We Turangi locals are SO lucky to have this place, we are pleased we can recommend it to visitors as well as have the pleasure of dining there ourselves! A couple of recommendations...try the cherry crumble if its on the menu (it's seasonal) and if you like lamb rack, it's divine. Oh, the seafood chowder is very good.

“Great food, great service, great environment”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 19, 2013

The same or better quality of food and service than you would get in most decent restaurants in Wellington. The best kids menu I've seen in any restaurant - catered for young and older kids as well, beautifully presented.
Bread platter was generous, Venison and Prawn dishes were delicious. Too full for desert but coffee great.

“A Gem of a Restaurant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 26, 2013

On arrival was warmly greeted by waitress and barman ... door was opened, invited in, given menu and seated... all so professionally.
Attentive but not intrusive service during the meal. Food was outstanding and generous.
The views out over the lake during the daytime/summer would be quite stunning I think.
Definitely recommend this restaurant ... and I for one will return for another meal.

Recommend visiting the Tokannu Hot Pools after dinner!!
