“Even better than we expected”
Reviewed January 27, 2012

My husband and I stayed at Brenton Lodge for our first three nights in New Zealand. We were so impressed with the beauty of the Lodge and the genuine kindness and expertise of Sallie and David. We arrived at 8:30 in the morning after a long flight from the states. Sallie and David were expecting us. They welcomed us warmly, showed us to our lovely and immaculate suite, and delivered a delicious breakfast. We were very grateful for the early check-in but certainly didn't expect it.
The gardens are beautiful, and you have a lovely view of the water. The breakfast were always a treat and so delicious. Sallie even prepared a gourmet dinner for us on New Year's Eve. Not only was the dinner exceptional, the company of David and Sallie was so enjoyable. They truly love what they do and are so helpful. Staying at Brenton Lodge and getting to know Sallie and David was a real highlight of our trip.

Room Tip: I would think any of the rooms would be wonderful.

My wife and were touring the North Island and had stopped in Whangamata tourist office to look for some B&B lodging for the night. After a few false starts we were booked into the Brenton Lodge. The only thing I can say was it a lovely surprise. David and Sallie were extremely helpful and let me use their landline to contavt Avis about a problem with our rental car. The room was great, a large en-suite room with a seperate sitting area. They recommended a restaurant for dinner that evening and arranged a local taxi for us, to enable me to have a drink with dinner.
Overall a wonderfull stay.

We stayed at Brenton Lodge for 2 nights of our honeymoon and absolutely loved it!
Sallie and David were so accommodating and made our stay very special.
We arrived very late as had to travel from Auckland after the All Blacks game and David was there to welcome us and show us to our lodge.
The electric blankets were very welcome as it was cold and the room did get quite chilly. There was a small fan heater in the cupboard which was made use of in the winter temperatures!

Breakfast was served overlooking the garden and Sallie was attentive and friendly, giving us a map and talking us through options for what to do and see in the area.
We had dinner there as well and both that and breakfast were absolutely superb. The bottle of champagne and beautiful complimentary chocolates were a great touch too.
Jackson the dog is also very welcoming and beautifully behaved and calm and will lean on you for a stroke!!

Overall, this small, exclusive little place was a lovely place to stay and the service was impeccable. The immediate surrounding area was not amazing but Brenton Lodge is very well placed for exploring other places around the Bay of Plenty.
I will definitely be recommending this to everyone!

This was the first place we stayed when we arrived in New Zealand for our honeymoon. Sallie & David were amazing hosts! They had spot on reccommendations on places to go and things to do. Our breakfast every morning delivered right to the Tui Cottage was delicious! You MUST have dinner there... Sallie is a FANTASTIC chef (and chocolatier)!!!

Thanks again Sallie & David!!!

We stayed one night but with hindsight two would have been better. Excellent food available if you tell them before 11am (or, like us, if you arrive and there will be enough). Just off the main road but quiet nevertheless. Good sizeable room with nice view, fridge, tea/coffee stuff and purchasable goodies. Good pool. Good breakfast. Good hosts. We would very happily return.

We spent 3 nights at Brenton Lodge on our recent holiday in New Zealand. Everything was excellent the accommodation was extremely comfortable, our hosts were very attentive and helpful and the food both for breakfast and dinner was excellent.
The view to the ocean from the garden is lovely as is the garden itself and to top it all they have the most friendly and delightful labrador (Jackson). We would not hesitate to recommend Brenton Lodge and had really super stay there. Thank you Sallie and David.

We travel for great scenery, food and wine, the lodge had it all! Sally and Dave were very welcoming and made sure we saw the higlights of the coramandel during our 3 day stay! As well as some great places to see (cathedral cove, hot water beach etc), the garden is a fantastic place to relax and unwind with
great ocean views! We loved NZ and when we come back again, the lodge is a must!
