We had a tree hut chalet, an lovely change from hotel rooms, which was large and very comfortable and built on the hillside. The hotel complex is built on different levels with quite a steep walk up the slope from reception to our chalet, but once you have got your breath back, all is lovely. The hotel has extra facilities in sauna, swimming pool, gym and laundry which were easy to find and use. The restaurant area was warm and welcoming and as there were very few guests we had dinner in the bar area which was perfectly fine. Food was excellent and plentiful and the steaks beautifully cooked and tender. Breakfast the following morning was again excellent, the choice varied and of excellent quality both continental and cooked. All staff were very friendly and approachable with plenty of time to talk and advise of amenities in the area, although a car is a must in exploring the area. A lovely part of the north island.

What a lovely surprise. We recently stayed at your hotel on the New Zealand Mega Famil 2013. So as a travel agent, we know our standards. Very interesting hotel with lovely boutique finish. Bush chalets were spacious and had a very warm feeling to them.
Nice little chocolate treats which went nicely with cup of tea in the morning.
Only 5 minute walk to Pauanui Beach, which actually has a bbq area, so fantastic spot for a picnic. Use their free bicycles and make a day of it.
They have a tennis court onsite as well as relaxing pool and gym. Free wi-fi in the main building, mainly in the restaurant area.
Very tasty unique menu which I believe is updated regularly. Fantastic staff and everything is kept clean.
Would highly recommend this wonderful hotel and will definitely be sending my clients there.

Room Tip: Would definitely recommend upgrading to the spacious Bush Chalet.

Very peaceful and romantic chalets set in the bush and built in a way so that other chalets are hardly noticeable. While we did see other guests there was no-one in the chalet next door which was probably a bonus for us. We only ate at the restaurant once; the food was delicious and the service spot on. The resort is set in a very picturesque part of New Zealand with lots of great walks in the area. We didn't use either the tennis court, swimming pool or gym since we spent most of the time exploring the natural beauty of the Coromandel Peninsula. The only complaint is that the cost of WiFi is way too expensive - thankfully we could access free WiFi outside the Telecom NZ phone booths. Friendly, helpful staff.

I was pleasantly surprised this resort was walking distance to town and beach. Great location and lovely bush setting. Ate at restaurant on Saturday night and lamb was amazing. Decided to treat ourselves again during the week and were very disappointed. Definitely think we had a different chef and wait staff were also not as good. Dryer in room didn't work and light on path was broken. We stayed 5 nights and although I advised of the broken light and danger at night this was never fixed. The room/chalet was large and very comfortable and staff happy to drive us up the hill when it was raining. Great base for travelling around the peninsula but needs to ensure things are fixed when advised.

Room Tip: Ask for chalet at the bottom of the hill.

Beautiful setting. Rooms are quiet & relaxing. However, we had a couple that we knew next door, which was good as the rooms have an adjoining wall....we stayed in the Treehut Chalets, which were grouped in two units.

Cute balconies, clean & tidy rooms.

My only complaint was that we had to haul our own suitcases up to the room.....very steep stairs. Also, the car park is a bit of a walk from the rooms. I guess this is the 'cost' of a secluded hideaway.

We were happy with our stay at Puka Park Resort. The staff were helpful and welcoming. We had meals at the restaurant and, while the food wasn't of a high standard, the service was good. It was a bit expensive in relation to value, but would recommend it if you want a quiet time away.

My partner and I spent three nights in a "bush chalet", which was spacious, private and clean. The elevated setting was amazing - it felt like we were almost in the tree tops. The downside to this, is the steep walkways to the chalets, which would be difficult for mobility-impaired individuals - they do, however, have a golf-cart service.

The staff were courteous, friendly and efficient. Housekeeping did an immaculate job.

Suggestions to management: * I found the mattress very soft and sagging towards the middle of the bed, maybe they could flip them over? * How about free wi-fi in the chalets - most similarly priced establishments offer this.

Room Tip: Try to get one of the chalets closer to the main building (46-48) or suite 50, not as far to walk.
