“Had never heard of Haiku until this”
Review of Haiku Pathway

Haiku Pathway
Reviewed December 1, 2012

I knew nothing about Haiku until I saw these stones and then returned to my room to Google them. The setting was delightful. The words, simple but meaningful. I think that everyone would find at least one stone that impacted on them........even if they were a cynic!

We discovered, right in the heart of Katikati township, a delightful park on the banks of the Uretara Stream containing a number of boulders etched with short poems: Haiku. This apparently the largest collection of Haiku outside Japan.

The setting is delightful with the stream, mature trees, paths and seats plus these wonderful thoughtful poems, making it the perfect spot for a quiet, relaxing stroll while reflecting on the poetry. Some will make you smile and one that caught my attention especially on sunny September day with people out fishing on the stream for the elusive whitebait:
“Whitebait season ..
Fishermen fritter away the day”

A creative walk through the water-way and interesting poems along the way. Very creative and nice. We walked here many days and loved it every time

Very nice by the river. Easy walking with sealed walkway. Stroll from the start to SH2 then up the main road to look at the murals. Lovely town
