Anita and Cobus, the owners, are two of the friendliest people you'd ever want to meet. It would be worth the trip just to chat with them, but when you consider that everything here is homemade... Try the AMAZING gluten free citrus cake (made with almond flower) the asparagus/smoked chicken sandwich on whole grain bread (outstanding) and then finish it off with what has to be the best iced coffee out there! The owners won't reveal what's in it (crack cocaine?) but it'll have you coming back for more in no time. Oh - and how's this for service: left 2 cell phones there recently before traveling on to the Coromandel. Anita found them and the baristas wrapped them up in a package to be picked up by a courrier service. Wonderful people, wonderful food...

Serves good coffee and service is good. Have only had the cheese scones and these need more cheese to make them tastier.

Thank you very much for your review. We at Viva appreciattes all tourists coming to our great Cafe and love hearing from all. Concerning our food and scones, it is homemade food and we do it according our own recipes developed over a long time(not that it can not change). One of the reasons the Cafe is called "Where the Locals eat". We do understand that taste budds differ when coming to cakes and scones. We are also very open to try new ideas as long as it is in line with the health regulations. If you guys do have a good cheese scone recipe that we can try out amongst the cafe staff first, we will appreciatte it if you can send it to us by email. Thanks again for visiting and commenting.

Have been in Katikati many times, but didn't know about Viva until reading about it on TA - mainly because it is not on the main street. So, on a busy Thursday when there was very little parking available on the main street, it was great to find plenty behind the Memorial Hall, right outside the cafe. The food was delicious, (though we would have liked to see some fresh sandwiches available), very interesting cakes and slices, and one of the best milkshakes we have had!! Plus a restroom on the premises. Very clean and welcoming, friendly staff. Outdoor seating as well.

Cafe Viva is well patronised by both locals and visitors, and is especially a favourite with women looking for a quiet location, that is away from the busy Katikati Main street, to catch up with friends and to enjoy coffee and/or lunch.

Parking is easy as it has a dedicated car park plus plenty of public parking. When you walk in you notice how bright and airy Viva is with windows all round and a good selection of indoor and outdoor tables.

There is a good selection of cabinet food, and although it is a bit limited compared with larger cafes, the main thing is that you can ensure that it is fresh, tasty, made daily and good value – well done Viva.

Viva serves great coffee being roasted by Atomic, carefully brewed and served with a smile!

In all aspects of cafe culture Viva is a very good example – give it a try!
