“Quick escape retreat relax”
Reviewed August 5, 2013

We live a fast-paced, high-stress life and have three wonderful children. That said my wife and I were in need of a two week vacation but in three days. We now Turks and Caicos well and have stayed at many of the properties and many of the islands however there is something special and striking about Parrot Cay. It more natural, lush, and beautiful than others, and the simplicity of the organization of the island and the golf-cart transport never lets you forget this. You are truly never far from the beauty of Parrot Cay and never interrupted by traffic or crowds or some of the other negatives that come with the modern world. The RESORT (and I use the word instead of hotel because it is truly acres and acres and buildings and pathways of thoughtful design and HOTEL would not do it justice) is amazing. Respectful to the architecture, peoples and environment of the Caribbean. The beach is stunning and you can get almost lost on it. The food is amazing however this is to be expected however to be able to pull off three-four different menus with healthy and delicious food for all cognisors would be difficult anywhere, however they do it. The Shambhala menu has something for all vegans, vegetarians, fish lovers, and raw-food committed. The Spa was fantastic even from a frequenter of Spa's and massage... recommend the Indian head massage. Some notable staff that took care of our every need Carlos, Putra, Reka, Shirley... thanks and see you soon. Thank you for making 3 days into 14 and removing stress... and allowing me to eat well but also delicious and also for a gym and yoga studios. My children had a blast, there is Ping-Pong, billiards, computers, library, water activities, and nature to keep them happy, healthy and busy. Thanks.

Room Tip: All that I saw were beautiful.

Stay away from this resort if you are a couple. We booked this resort as a get away because of the seeming isolation and privacy. Unfortunately, unless you are at one of the villas or private homes you are going to be crammed in a small area with other people in rooms with thin walls, and lots of families with young (mostly unruly) children.

It seems like this resort attracts a lot of families, especially the kind who have neglected to pay attention to their kids so they are loud and poorly behaved. This is hardly the quiet, romantic get-away we had in mind. Have never seen a luxury resort quite like this. They have wasted a huge private Island by building all the rooms in a small space and you will see and hear all your fellow travelers a lot more than you like.

The garden rooms are dated and are not luxurious. Think 80s and you get the idea. It seems like other areas of the resort have been updated, but not the rooms. The bed is not particularly comfortable (couldn't wait to go home to my own), and sadly couldn't eat dinner on our porch due to the mosquitoes (they warned us, but we tried anyway).

Oh, absolutely do not come here unless you get food as part of your package. The meals are ridiculously overpriced, and you will regret every time you have to sign for another so-so overpriced meal. The service is adequate (the staff are friendly if slow), the food is adequate, certainly not outstanding. Breakfast buffet is by far the highlight. The BBQ night on Saturday was really tacky... forcing everyone to eat at the same restaurant and playing dated live music that will make the really old folks reminisce and the rest to just shake their heads.

The beach and water are beautiful, but that is true anywhere on Turks and Caicos. Certainly no reason to pay up for a lackluster experience.

I really don't understand all the positive reviews, I have been to many resorts so much better than this.

Room Tip: Don't bother with a garden or terrace room.

It's the one place we keep coming back to (and one of few that warrants the effort to comment). My kids now say it is their favorite place, having started visiting before they could talk. When the toughest decision is when to book a spa treatment, and whether to order from the equally compelling Lotus and Terrace menus or from the wonderful Shambhala Spa menu, life is good! The Spa therapists and facility are second to none. The beach is beyond compare and the simplicity replenishing. A soulful and magical place all around with the service and aesthetic to match. A truly special place indeed!

An absolutely beautiful resort that is nestled into the surrounding island. we stayed in a beautiful one bedroom ocean villa that was absolutely private with a great deck and a plunge pool. The beach is beautiful and pristine. Service was great and the food, while expensive, was delicious at all meals. The trip from the airport takes about an hour by car and boat but once you arrive, there is no need to go anywhere else unless you are looking for nightlife. Expensive but wonderful.

The Spa was the highlight of the trip; the deep tissue massage was one of the best I’ve had in a long time- followed by the steam room relaxation. Breakfast buffet is good, especially the healthy vegetable juices and salmon rolls.
