“Perfect!”
Reviewed June 28, 2010

A perfect trip! The setting is relaxed and casual yet has an upscale feel. Pine Cay and The Meridian Club are ideal for those looking to get away from it all. No phones, cars, tvs and yes, air conditioning. There was a constant breeze to keep us cool. The staff are incredibly friendly and service oriented. They made our family reunion truly special. The food is fabulous. There are various activities to keep you busy during the day. Snorkeling, kayaking, sailing, biking and tennis kept our crew of 15 occupied. We also enjoyed a 'jump-up' with live music, beach bonfire, "drive-in movie" at the airstrip from our golfcarts (complete with popcorn) at night. The Meridian Club is truly an extraordinary place that makes you feel like family. We really felt like we got to know the staff and appreciate the extra effort they put in to make our trip perfect!

Having been all over the Caribbean, we appreciate the charm that small private resorts offer. This one is far from charming in the summer months. The beach is fantastic, the concept of the resort is fantastic and the managers were amazing but the overall resort is dated and not designed to take advantage of the ocean breeze. With 90 degree temps and 90% humidity and no air conditoning, we were miserable. No where, except in the water, could you go to cool off. The mosquitoes were a nightmare. Over 50 bites for each of us along with the two other couples that were there at the same time. We doused ourselves in OFF just to go to dinner and still ended up miserable. The island is "green" so they really don't to anything to keep the mosquitoes down. After spending two sleepless nights miserable, we decided to spend a couple of hundred dollars more a night and headed back to Parrot Cay where we stayed a few years ago. Parrot Cay is fantastic but does lack the rustic charm of Meridian. Over all, Meridian is slightly overpriced for what you get, but the beach is amazing. If you go, I advise only going November - April and any time after that, bring your own fans and gallons of OFF.

Here in the Caribbean (or anywhere else for that matter) Mother Nature has a mind of her own. In June we generally have fabulous breezes and clear sunny days with brief afternoon showers here and there but….there are rare exceptions. Regretfully, guests staying with us the 1st week in June, 2010 experienced one of the exceptions. We received 4.5” of rain in a few hours, leaving large amounts of standing water about the island. The regular trade winds then dropped sharply, leaving it unusually hot and still (rooms are outfitted with ceiling and standing fans). Mosquitoes appeared in numbers far greater than we’ve ever seen before. We did fog around the hotel twice daily, but they kept coming from other parts of the island and nearby cays. Guests understandably were not pleased.

As a goodwill gesture, we discounted stays during that time period even though the events were not of our making. Since that week, the island has dried out, our normal breezes returned and the mosquito population has subsided. I think the other comments TripAdvisor has received about the Meridian Club over the past several years amply demonstrate that the events in question were an anomaly beyond anyone’s control.
Respectfully,

Recently visited the Meridian Club (Pine Cay Island) Turks and Caicos. Where do I begin - one of the most beautiful beaches I have seen. This is a private Island so not crowded but plenty to do if you want - never got bored. . The rooms were nicely decorated and spacious very comfortable and clean. The staff was friendly and went above and beyond my expectations to make this an awsome trip. This private island is unique in that there are no cars, no cell phones, you can just relax and explore on your own feeling very safe and secure - no crime.. Food was prepared 3 x daily by chefs and served at the dining/clubhouse within walking distance of your rooms. You could either dine inside the clubhouse or outside overlooking the pool and beach. Food was delicious. This was my 1st visit but is now at the top of my list. I plan on going back.

Otherwise more people will find out about one of the best places to get away from it all. That is if you don't mind doing nothing but playing on the beach, snorkeling or fishing. Rooms were great, service was excellent and Bev and Wally make you feel at home and very welcomed guests.

The meals and desserts were unbelievably good!

Already thinking about our next trip there.

We loved our stay at the Meridian Club. It was our anniversary and this was the perfect place to reconnect and relax. The rooms are LOVELY and have every amenity that you might need - even extra beach towels, beach bag, bug spray. You leave your room and you are ON THE BEACH. The food was amazing - a Top Chef conestant was their Chef. Wow! The activities were great - we loved the snorkeling and sea kayaking. This is one of the longest and most deserted beaches I have ever seen. Bev and Wally were great and made you feel incredibly welcome - as did the entire staff. We got to experience so fun events - the Glow Worm cruise and "movie night" on the airstrip. The other guests were nice and friendly but were also fine leaving us alone when we wanted privacy. The location is spectacular and easy to get to from the US. We were glad there was no disco or real nightlife. We wanted peace and quiet and we got it. Overall a good balance of privacy and interaction/activities. We would love to go back. Just a note - we were among the younger guests (we are in our 40's) - but it didn't matter at all.
Thank you Meridian Club for a wonderful 2nd Honeymoon!

This is a true get away spot no parties no bars just peace and quiet. I have been going back there for almost every year for 20 years.
The beach is fabulous and you can wade out to you waist at Sand Dollar Point and collect sand dollars all afternoon (or until you get tired).
A few times I have been invited to a quiet get together at one of the owners house and the owner was fun as well as interesting.
I miss some of the "old timers" from 15 years ago like the Dive Master Wayne. I do not recall if they still have a dive master but if not you can pick up a trip from 2 islands down.
A few days a week they have snorkel trips that are always fun. The names of places they take you are fun as well as interesting like "The Fish Bowl".
The food and wine selection is always excellent, and for Thanksgiving they used to have Turkey so you won't miss that if you come during the week of Thanksgiving.
I love going there in November as the rates are still reasonable. The only downside is that it is the end of Hurricane season and the weather might not be optimal.
The rooms are always clean and nice and airy and you do not need air conditioning (at least the times I have been there). The air comes in at night off the water and out in the morning.
At one time you used to come in at the small airport (landing strip really) from Provo 9r way long time ago Grand Turk). Now I do not know about the air strip as the person who used to take of it passed away quite some time ago. Check with the Club before anything.
Back in the 1980's a French lady by the name of Francoius(sp?) was the task masker of the hotel but it was run well and everyone enjoyed her. After many manager changes over the years (some good, some really bad and some excellent ones) it is a great place to just zone out and not worry about what goes on in the outside world. If there is something important you will hear about it after a fashion. This is a laid back island no cars just golf carts. Burt you can walk the length of the island in 20 minutes (or so) why bother just walk.
The staff is always friendly and will help out if you ask. Some of the long timers will tell you stories of fun events that have occurred on the island. Personally I would not bring kids here as outside of the beach and the snorkel trips and Sand dollar point there is little to do. Plus the people who come here come to relax and not listen to any noise (at least that is my reason).
Come here only if you want to serious relax!

I turned 50 this year and was looking for something different, off the beaten path when I stumbled across Pine Cay. We reserved the Sand Dollar cottage aka ..The Love Shack according to Bang Bang, one of the colorful family employees of Pine Cay. When we were picked up at the marina on the mainland I knew this was what I was looking for. The ride back to Pine Cay was with the chef at Pine Cay, he was in town getting a few groceries. Bill informed us of the resort and what to expect, his wife was the pastry chef and my wife wanted to meet her immediately, her desserts were to die for.

The shack is a small cottage on the far end of the resort that has a ...well ...a cottage feel to it. A nice bed, screened porch, a ceiling fan and a small fridge and the most awesome ice bucket that was refilled everyday. My wife and I were looking to zone out for a week and this was the place, everyone has there own Tiki hut to lounge under, the shack has a hammock between two huge Casuarina Pines which I used to sway in the breeze and listen to the ocean in the background.

To us the main draw to the resort was the intimacy of the place, everyone knows your name when you arrive. There is a board detailing who is coming and going. When we arrived there was 7 couples in the resort and that was it. By the end of the first couple of days we knew everyone else and we all met at the bar for the sunset and drinks and be catch up on what we did or did not do during the day. All of the staff were great, always friendly and outgoing.

The beach is amazing and for the time we were there, completly deserted. Only twice did we see anyone walking down the beach. It was like being on a deserted island, the water crystal azure blue, some days there were waves, other days calm. There are Hobie cats to go sailing, you dont have to sign them out and you dont have to be back in an hour, and you dont have boundaries. there are sea kayaks to take out and cruise the shoreline or go to the aquarium to gaze at the fish, shelling at low tide. Doing nothing was exhausting.

My wife and I went for a little cruise over to Fort George Cay for a romantic lunch, they gave us a cooler with some wine and beer, some sandwiches, salads, a couple of chairs and an umbrella. They gave us a radio to call the harbourmaster when we wanted to come back, he eventually came to get us, I did not want to leave, I was in this ocean paradice walking out around a 1000' and the water was up to my knees...unreal.

On wednesday night it is movie night, so what you ask. All the guests have golf carts to cruise over to the air strip for an outdoor movie night under the stars, bowl of hot buttered popcorn and a few drinks and a flick. You are not going to get that anywhere else. You are so far off the beaten path there are no bright lights, only the stars. The week we were there there was a meteor shower all week. I would get up in the night and watch them.

The resort is managed by Bev and Wally, it is through their effort and their amazing staff that make Pine Cay so special, at least in my opinion.

Pine Cay is not for everyone, if you want noise and action, bright lights, loud music and all night parties ....don't come here, but we will be back.

The property is environmentally sensitive and ideal for those seeking an unspoiled secluded retreat. Founded in 1973, the Meridian Club offers a Caribbean experience the way it was before the appearance of big hotels and condominiums, jet skis and beach umbrella communities. Some of the privately owned homes that share the island are also available for rent. Soothing trade winds ensure comfortable temperatures and low humidity year round while the surrounding waters (averaging a pleasant 75° - 80° Fahrenheit) teem with marine life. Underwater visibility often exceeds 100 feet and there are miles of coral gardens within a five minute boat ride. Ashore, Pine Cay remains a pristine natural haven, a private secluded island with vast open space and seven freshwater ponds, a perfect habitat for the abundant local fauna and flora.
