“Salt Cay Divers an excellent operation!”
Review of Salt Cay Divers

Salt Cay Divers
Reviewed February 14, 2013

We spent 5 days diving with Salt Cay Divers and found Debbie to be most helpful (she also set us up at Charming House) and friendly, her operation to be professionally run, and our divemaster, Craig, to be very generous and fun while guiding us through his lovely marine environment. The reef was in quite good shape with myriad fish species of different ages. Exotic Lionfish are a problem, and Craig speared some while we were diving. We finally got to eat some, and it was quite tasty. We appreciated Salt Cay Divers caring for older divers like us (60s). We also enjoyed biking around the island!

Great experience. Richard and Craig as dive masters were great. They take care of everything. They are very accommodating and professional. My husband and I did 15 dives in 14 days with them and dive sites are typically a 5 to 10 minute boat ride. So your first dive is typically at 9:00 and you are finished your second dive between 12:30 and 1:00. They will do afternoon and night dives as well. There service was excellent.

Thank Darlene S

We just returned from a 2 night stay in Salt Cay and were extremely pleased with SCD! Debbie, Ben, Lee, and Richard were a delight to work with and very professional. We not only went diving, but also went on a whale watching trip. The dive site was great and we saw all sorts of sea life, including sharks, turtles and even an octopus! While we were not able to get close enough to the migrating humpbacks to snorkel near them, we really appreciated the RESPECT that Ben and Lee had for the whales and their territory. I would much rather see the whales from a distance (we did!) than harass them by chasing them. We knew that snorkeling wasn't guaranteed (hey, it's not a petting zoo) and I would much prefer to go with a responsible boat captain than pester these beautiful creatures if they aren't interested. Frankly, I think that says loads about the captain's integrity.

I would highly recommend Salt Cay Divers and their staff!

We dove 5 days with Salt Cay Divers, owned by ex-pat Debbie and situated adjacent to her restaurant, Coral Reef Café. The easy-going, kind, ever-helpful, “totally engaged in the dives” Craig served as our DM. Craig, who was extremely conscientious and attentive figured out our typical dive profile the first day, and from then on supported us in diving our profile which we greatly appreciated. Our dives typically consisted of descending the wall to 80-90 feet where we explored, while slowly ascending and going along the top of the coral reef back to the boat. Diving was mellow and fun with a fair amount of interesting sea-life and coral (okay, we are bit spoiled by the South Pacific) but we still appreciated each day. Fish life varied from average to good and we saw nurse sharks, rays, turtles, eels, large groups of trunk fish, lots of parrot fish, grunts, snappers, and large schools of school masters, as well as goat, trigger, file and spotted-drum fish. In addition, we saw more barracuda than I had wished, both small and large! Craig spent part of each dive hunting for lion fish, yet luckily as they are invasive, there were few to find. The vis was generally average to good, and the water temperature was 75 to 76 degrees. We brought all of our own dive gear (that included my full body 3 mm suit and cap) but in order to be completely comfortable on our 55 to 70 minute dives I had to add a 3 mm over my suit that I was able to get at the dive shop. We dove in a small boat, generally with just the 4 of us (we are two couples in our early 60’s). On two occasions another couple joined us. Craig assisted us in getting our gear on and letting us take it off in the water, where he brought it onto the boat. After dives we rinsed our gear in a tub and hung it to dry. The next morning our gear was set up on the boat and we were ready to go. Boat rides were typically 5 minutes and we did our surface interval on the beach adjacent to the dive center and café. The days were beautiful, sunny, and 80 to 83 degrees F, and the water was generally pretty calm. We all enjoyed our time diving on this little island that “time has forgotten” and appreciate all of the folks who helped to make this a memorable trip.

Ror our third trip to Salt Cay we chose SCDivers for our whale watching trip - after contacting Debbie the owner (all very easy and straightforward) we set off on a fine moring into the blue...

This year SCD have emplyed a Whale Expert (marine biologist?) who skippers the boat and is a wealth of info about these great creatures.

Everyone wants to snorkel with the whales and he goes out of his way to ensure that both you AND the whale are comfortable with this.

this is done by fully briefing the guests on snorkelling ettiquete and also by not harassing the whales in any way - basicaly, if they WANT you to swim with them you can - if not, they're gone!!!

great trip but book early!!!!!!
