“Just what we were looking for!”
Reviewed January 1, 2011

If you are looking for lights, glitz, loud nightlife or casinos in a resort, stop reading now.

But if you are interested in peaceful, relaxing, natural beauty read on........Blue Horizon Resort was everything we hoped for. Our first few days we had this beautiful beach below the cottage to ourselves. Our Sunrise cottage was neat and very comfortable, but it is the view that really stands out. The deck and front windows overlook Dragon Cay which is a short distance off the beach. On the first day, the sandbar leading from the beach to the Cay at low tide allowed us to walk to the cay without getting our feet wet. Over the 2 weeks we stayed, the sand shifted daily with the tides and the waves. At the end we had to wade the last 30 feet to the Dragon. The water is as beautiful as their website shows. We watched the waves crash on and over the Dragon on windy days. It was like mother nature's fireworks!! We never tired of watching the changing waves, sand and beach.

Besides the view, we took kayaks out 2 days in through the mangroves and out around the end of the island where we saw rays, turtles and a variety of sea birds. The kayaks can be propelled by a bicycle mechanism and/or with the paddle. This was so much fun that we stayed out 4 hours. Another day we rode the bikes all around the island for a total of 26 miles. We hiked the Crossing Place trail and saw one isolated beach after another. The beaches are beautiful, but unfortunately the amount of trash washed up is incredible. Mudjin Beach below the resort has been kept clean (we tried to do our part to pick up trash on our daily beach walks).

Middle Caicos has very few people and very few options for eating. Daniel's was very good and we had food from Dillion's delivered. Otherwise we cooked for ourselves. Christie and Dallas had lobster we could buy and they had us fully stocked with the pre-arranged grocery list we sent. There are no corner 7-11's or fast food to drop in as desired, but this is just what we wanted.

Christi and Dallas (and Allie) were perfect hosts! All we had to do was ask and they provided a car, bikes, kayaks, fins, food, etc. We were able to request fresh locally baked bread and additional food as needed and it would show up the next day.

We highly recommend Blue Horizon Resort for those that want independence, relaxation and a quiet, beautiful destination!

Blue Horizon is unlike any place I have ever been to. I have been to many islands in the Caribbean and the water is the most gorgeous here. The land features are so unique and it truly is a a magical place. This is the perfect place to relax on your own private beach..no crowds..just pure bliss.
It is a hidden gem and I hope others get to see how amazing this place is.

Christi and Dallas were very welcoming and so helpful in making sure we had everything we needed. We rented sea kayaks from them and got to see so much marine life in the mangroves. It was incredible!

I cannot say enough good things about Blue Horizon and I will definitely be back again next year.

If you just want to get away, enjoy the culture and scenery, this place can't be be beat. The owners, Christi and Dallas really care about their guests and treat them as family. You can't go wrong if you are looking for a place to relax. If you are looking for the traditional resort amenities like spas, restaurants, nightclubs, then this is probably not right for you. If you go, you gotta go on the air-boat with Dallas, it's awesome.

Recently stayed at BH Resort for our honeymoon. Wanted to find a place that was out of the ordinary, off the beaten path and away from the masses. We found it all. Probably one of the only places around that offers complete solitude but still has modern niceties such as satellite TV and air conditioning. Christie and Dallas were great hosts and were available for all our requests. While I am normally the one who sleeps in I found myself getting up between 6 and 7 am everyday, anxious to go spend another day on our own private beach. We probably only saw 12 people on the beach during our week stay at BH.

Conch Bar is a short bike ride away (or car drive if you want to rent a car, but it's less than a mile). There you will find Daniels restaurant which is excellent (the lobster is awesome!) but the Conch is a requisite meal. We found ourselves stopping daily by the Little Oasis to grab some rum raisin ice cream and pineapple sodas. Evette, the owner of Little Oasis, was a pleasure to visit with and provided us with a great history lesson of the island.

Highly recommended, I hope to get back there sooner than later.

We loved the seclusion of Blue Horizon. We stayed for one week at BH then stayed at Grace Bay for 2 nites, BH was what we dreamed of; Grace Bay was Destin, FL with slightly better water. We truly were relaxed after we left (IGA in Gracebay was freaky after a week at BH). The only caveat, if you fly in late Sat and you flight is delayed the ferries (public and private) are closed so we missed a nite of being there. If I did it again (and I will) I would fly into GB and stay the first nite there to ensure my ferry and not stress about my delayed flight. Although we did easily get a hotel voucher, taxi voucher and food voucher from the airline we didn't know it would be that easy and flying into the Caribbean not knowing where to stay can be stressful. Also, the locals in Middle Caicos are the nicest we have ever met in the Caribbean.

I am hesitant to write a review as I want this place to stay as though its a secret - undiscovered hideaway, but loved it so much, I have to rave! My husband and I just returned from our honeymoon at Blue Horizon! What an AMAZING place! We are very adventurous but also love to lounge by the water and Middle Caicos offered everything we could have imagined! Like other reviewers have said, if you are looking for pampering, restaurants, night life, pool side bars, or to be around other people, Blue Horizon is not for you. BUT if you love having an entire island practically to yourself with numerous private beaches, natural landscape and coastal vistas as far as the eye can see, and an intimate time with your friends, family, or significant other - this IS perfect! Christi and Dallas - the owners, and their pup Grouper greeted us at the Ferry dock from Provo with open arms and took care of any of our needs all week! They have cars to rent to explore the island and North Caicos, as well as bikes, hobbi kayaks, fishing guides, snorkel gear, as well as they buy your groceries and booze ahead of time so you really never have to leave and save a bundle on going out to dinner.
There is not a lot of restaurants on the island. We had Daniel's for lunch which was nice - right on the beach!
Also loved going out to Wild Cow run on the edge of the island! Great kite surfing and sandbars for exploring! Just a neat spot! There is wonderful snorkeling right off the beach on Mudjin Harbor at Blue horizon! We also took bikes out to explore one day and road to Bambara beach for snorkeling! Also they make Bambara rum there! Check that our too!
We just had the best adventurers and most relaxing time on our honeymoon on Middle Caicos!
If you go to North Caicos be sure to check out the Barracuda Beach Bar off the beaten path! Wonderful hidden gem!
I'm ready to go back - what a wonderful and magical place!

We completely enjoyed or week long stay at Blue Horizon! The on-site staff were very kind and attentive to our needs. They went out of their way to ensure our stay was comfortable and enjoyable. They even stocked our room with groceries before our arrival! The secluded cabins were clean and cozy. All of the cabins face the ocean, and the view is breathtaking! The staff were very knowledgeable about the island, and offered tips on sight-seeing and neat things to do. There are kayaks available, and a large boat for deep-sea fishing. We did something different every day! I'm ready yo go back!
