“A Special Place”
Reviewed October 30, 2012 via mobile

We stayed at Blue Horizon Resort from October 23-29 2012. Christi, who is the resort manager, contacted us by email a month before we arrived to see if we needed the grocery service or rental car. Her and her right hand man DC will take care of everything for you if you need it. She set our rental car but since we were staying in Provo a few nights before we went to Middle Caicos we brought our own food. I would highly recommend taking advantage of letting them stock up the food for you. Being our first time to TCI, we had a lot of questions for her before we arrived and she was great about answering quickly. I also highly recommend viewing the TCI forums here on Trip Advisor, the information was invaluable. After taking the ferry over to North Caicos our rental car guy that Christi set up for us was there waiting for us. We opted for a car, but it's worth it to spend a few extra bucks for a jeep. You can also take advantage of renting a cell phone through Christi too. After crossing the causeway to Middle Caicos it's a couple of minutes drive to BHR, very easy to find. As soon as we pulled in Christi came out to greet us and show us our cottage. We stayed in the Tropico cottage and it was very cute and had pretty much everything you'll need besides personal products. There's satellite tv with lots of channels and wifi. The wifi was spotty but no big deal. It's surrounded by foliage and had good privacy but still had a view of the water and some of Dragon Cay. It was windy and rained here and there due to Hurricane Sandy, but there were no problems with that. The wind really helped keep the Mosquitos down and we didn't have no-see-ums until the last night when the wind laid down. They can get through the screens so just use repellant. We brought one bottle of repellant and that lasted the two of us. They were doing construction on the soon to open restaurant and other than the backhoe being noisy a few days it wasn't that bothersome. If you explore the island there are a lot of great things to see but even with a map you can get directions from Christi or DC. Not a lot of street signs or they can be hard to see. We went to the Indian caves just a few minutes from resort, went to Wild Cow Run which is a MUST. We were the only ones everyplace we went. Went to Daniel's Cafe for lunch and had great conch and a great time with Daniel and his son Devon. BHR had pathways to several lookout points and to the secret beach. You could also hike the trail, but we didn't. Lot's of lizards and hermit's everywhere but never in the cottage. We saw some osprey's, flamingos and herons. You'll be warned about leaving food out because of tiny ants and that is no joke, but we just kept stuff put away and they weren't a problem after that. Tried to set up a bone fishing trip but the weather didn't allow. Mudjin Harbor and Dragon Cay are a great place to just float and relax-even saw some barracuda. The resident potcake Grouper came to visit us a lot and we enjoyed his company. The screened in porch was great at all times of day or night and opening the windows and sliding doors was nice and quiet. The amount of stars you can see at night is breathtaking. I've never seen so many. If you are looking for a place that is off the beaten path, not looking for nightlife or shopping or a lot of people, this is THE place. It's a place for people looking to get away from it all. We rarely saw other cars when we went driving around. We loved our time at Blue Horizon and can't wait to go back.

My son and I did a day trip to visit Middle Caicos. Very beautiful and non-populated island. We stopped by the Blue Horizon resort and the owner was very nice to let us walk around and visit the property. We have not stayed here, but if I want to get away from it all (I know, an overused statement- but in this case really true) in a paradise with no people, I would stay here.

This is the place to "get away from it all". You're way out there, away from the rat race, and that means there's nothing between you and the beautiful turquoise water, delightful beaches that seem to go on forever, soothing breezes, and peacefulness. Christi is fantastic. She's there when you need something and leaves you alone to enjoy yourself otherwise. How's this for "above and beyond" service: My wife left her glasses on the ferry to Caicos. Christi called them repeatedly, loaned my wife some reading glasses, and eventually retrieved the glasses personally from the ferry later in the week! Unbelievable! She also readily provided provisions we'd underestimated, etc. She pointed out a whale to us that was playing just off the beach on our last day there - very exciting! We're already booked for next year!

Tip: Plan to shower in the afternoon, after the sun has had a chance to heat the water.

Room Tip: Sunrise and Sunset give the best views, while Dragon, Ridgetop, and Portico are more private.

We took a chance and booked our 12 days in Turks here and can't wait to go back. The beach was amazing and most of the time we had it to ourselves or only had to share with a few other couples. It's very basic, you wash your own dishes, make your own bed, sweep out the sand yourself and probably cook all of your own meals, which doesn't sound like a vacation when I write it down and all of that made it even more perfect. We were so comfortable we felt like we were at home only it was prettier and quieter. This is our new go to spot, when we needed something Christi or DC were there to help but otherwise we were on our own to entertain ourselves (it's not hard to spend an hour just sitting watching the ocean and listening to the waves). The snorkeling was decent, swimming was great - the ocean is very calm right out front and the waves weren't big or rough, and the sand was soft, it was hard to leave.

We're glad we used the grocery service, if you're staying a long time don't try to get everything on your first list, they have common supplies on hand if you run out (like Diet Coke) and seemed to make trips every few days to North Caicos so they could get you more food if you need. Pay for a few meals in Provo and you'll realize the grocery bill isn't that bad, even with a service charge. We can't say enough good things about this, it would be good getaway for couples, a family or a small group of friends and you would think you'd be lonely but we didn't miss being near a city at all. Can't wait to go back.

And if you want to make a friend, Grouper the resort dog likes pineapple, honey nut cheerios, any kind of meat and peanut butter toast. Christi was right, feed him once and he'll visit you for breakfast, dinner and probably in between.

It has taken many miles to find my perfect place on earth and this, Blue Horizon on Middle Caicos, is it.

I am a nature guy. Not drop-me-in-remote-wilderness-with-knife nature guy, but more 21st-century-nature guy. Blue Horizon enabled me to wake using the dawn as my alarm clock, the sea as my lullaby at bedtime and a cigar + cliffside view as my big screen entertainment. I didn't have to fetch water in a pail, kill my own dinner or start a fire with a flint. It was the perfect balance.

This destination matched with someone you *want* to be with equates to a heavenly vacation.

This is it. Period. I can't imagine a better vacation.

Room Tip: Seawings is a typical beach house with excellent airflow from the trade winds. We kept windows open...

We spent 7 nights at Blue Horizon Resort in May. We knew it would be quiet before we went but wow was it ever. We loved this place but if we ever get the opportunity to go back, 4 nights probably would have been better for us. Christi and DC were terrific and like all the other reviews say, taking advantage of the grocery service is a must. When we arrived Christi had everything set up for us. Groceries were in the fridge and the wine was chilled (just what we needed after a long day of travelling). We actually arrived later than planned when our plane was delayed. We called Christi from the airplane and she was great about it. We missed our ferry reservation and there was no problem with taking the later ferry either. The activities we did were kayaking (a must do) its so serene, hiked the crossing place trail and rented a car to go to Bambarra Beach where my husband walked all the way out to Pelican Cay and then headed out to Wild Cow Run beach (our new all time favorite beach). The Tropico cottage was perfect for us. It was very clean and had everything we needed. The screened in porch was great and nice to sit on in the afternoon to get some shade and enjoy some rum. It didn't stop the no-see-ums though. We got eaten alive. We celebrated my birthday while we were there and Christi was so sweet and brought me a birthday cake (candle and all). She really made it special. We loved BHR and Middle Caicos, it was really nice to see a part of Turks and Caicos other than Provo.

If you need to be entertained, want to be pampered, and/or don't want to cook for yourself most of the time; you should stay in Provo and day-trip to Mudjin Harbor. This place is not for you!

If yearn for the time and place to detox from the fast-lane and contemplate God's creation in a mind-blowing setting, this is your place! Most of the reviews of the Blue Horzon Resort are spot-on. There are too few places in the world like Middle Caicos and the BHR. Usually, development creeps in and ruins the beauty and solitude. Make sure you don't rush things. The BHR requires several nights to work its magic, but once you are in its spell you won't want to leave.

Room Tip: All of the villas can be view on the BHR website.
