This is a bit of a hidden gem, known to a few cognoscenti (and the cast of the latest Bond film). The Glencoe peaks look stunning from this side and there are often deer at the roadside once mighty Ben Starav comes into view.5 miles along the winding single track, there is a gorgeous lochan down off the road.In early summer it is ringed with pink rhodedendrons.Make your way down the rough moorland and spend some time wandering along the little path to the right (south) of the lochan beyond the forest and beside the crytal clear river. On a warm sunny day, you'll think you're in paradise.
I've travelled up and down this Glen often over the years and still say 'wow 'at the same places.

All of the above title...we never see more than 3 people in the whole glen.
What Scotland is about.

When you are driving up the A82 towards Glencoe and you see the three sisters, you'll come to a single track on the left heading along to Loch Etive, I strongly recommend (in a whispered voice so not so many people do it and make it too "busy") you take this road and take your time driving along and back, stopping off to take in the wonderful scenery.

The single track takes about an hour to get to Loch Etive. We stopped off to take photos of small waterfalls, deer, river scenes etc and the other other people there seemed to be members of canoe clubs and some people staying in tents right along at the end of the road and a few walkers. Hardly met any cars whilst driving along and back.

The drive back was better than the one I felt, though both were stunning. Much better than just belting along the A82 through Glencoe. Note there are no shops, toilets, or restaurants along here, so be prepared...

As a professional landscape photographer I have visited Glen Etive many many times. Every time it has provided me with something ew and exciting to photograph. Look past the often published images and a wee bit of gentle searching will bring rich rewards.

I simply cant drive past this road without driving down, its a great experience and something you dont forget, many people by-pass this road because they are in awe of Glen Coe, but i must stress, find it and drive down it. great opportunities for photography and the views are stunning.

Once you reach the Loch its a dead end and you have to drive back along the road again, but dont think you will see the same things again because driving back up gives you a all new adventure again and you see more things that you missed from a different angle....a must if you love scottish scenery
