At the risk of being repetative, we booked for 8.00 and had to wait in a very small bar. There seemed to be a private party with lots of children running about in an adjacent room where we may have been able to sit and enjoy our pre-dinner drinks. Unfortunately we had to stand next to the bar which was covered with dirty glasses and empty bottles. Not the best way to start the evening. No problem when we finally got seated. Drinks were ordered and starters which were generous. The black pudding with horseradish source seemed to have forgotten the horsradish. The wait for the main course was just to the point of 'where's the food' so can't really complain. The main courses were tasty although my wife's salmon was a little on the dry side which meant she left some. Most unusual for her! Sticky toffee pudding (I consider myself an expert on this) was average, not enough sticky toffe too much 'creme'. Staff were couteous and seemed willing enough so can't complain there. This restaurant now is called Trattoria della Statzione whether it has changed hands from being Il Forno I don't know but it has certainly gone down market.

We had our table booked for eight and had to wait twenty minutes at the bar before being seated. Had our starters which were fairly ok, however we then had to wait another fifty minutes for our food with no waiters asking us if we wanted any drinks. two minutes before bringing out our food they informed us that they had no spaghetti left for the bolognese.... What Italian restaurant runs our of spaghetti!!!?? They then brought our food to the table minus the spaghetti had to have taghetelli instead and still without no drinks, the meal was awful very salty and the Roma pasta was like tomato soup. A very unpleasant meal, when we paid we weren't asked if our meal was ok, maybe if we had we would have said no but as we are not people that like to complain and cause a fuss we didnt mention it, however when we have came out we wished we had as paid £50 for our meal and have never been so disappointed. Will definitely not be returning, spoilt our night!!

I eat in Stazione on a regular basis with friends and for business lunches and have always had great food and service. Was David L in the same restaurant? Never heard such nit picking before.

This was mostly a disaster. We couldn’t get a table at Irvins on a Saturday evening, so wandered, a bit hungry, back into Tynemouth town. We’d been told about the remarkable refurbishment of the station, so assumed that an adjacent restaurant would also be fine. Unfortunately, in retrospect, the nice person at the reception desk was able to find us a table.

Service was prompt but chaotic, mostly as a result of a large number of serving staff wandering aimlessly around the huge regimented dining room looking unhappy and randomly coming into contact with tables. One of the staff, a tall chap who looked Scandinavian, but spoke with a broad local accent, was the only one who was in any way responsive – he spontaneously asked us if we’d like some bread for the mussel sauce, which was a nice touch (though there was too much cream and not enough garlic or onion in the sauce). I tried black pudding with horseradish sauce for starters, which again was a nice idea (if Spanish, rather than Italian), but both components were bland and smooth. I didn’t dare tackle anything for the main course except a pizza, and the resulting very thin crust item was hot and tasty with what seemed like a generous drizzle of olive oil – the pizza chef was the only other person who looked as if he was doing any work (though I appreciate this low-carb option might not be a genuine pizza base, and the topping felt a bit like the nouvelle cuisine version). The real horror was smashed up meat balls masquerading as bolognese sauce, which, if not worthy of a place in the indictment queue at The Hague, is nevertheless shocking laziness. Not to be outdone, I proceeded to -- the worst cup of coffee I’ve ever had, ever. If an Italian restaurant can’t come up with decent bolognese sauce or coffee, then it has no right to perpetrate its horrors on the good folk of Tyne and Wear. Alternatively, close the place down while the staff go on an intensive weekend training trip to Bologna to learn how to make real bolognese (which is never served with spaghetti, by the way, always tagliatelle). Low-ish prices can’t compensate. A venue to avoid, vigorously. Go to the beautifully restored station next door, and take a train to somewhere -- anywhere -- else.

We visited il forno after reading reviews on trip advisor and we were not disappointed. The food was delicious, our only complaint was that there was too much! Service was great and staff were very friendly. We will be back.
