“Looks good but isn't.”
Reviewed July 15, 2012

we stayed here in June. arrived after a hard days walking. Bags had arrived earlier. They were heavy. They were left in reception. No offer of help to carry them to room. No lift. Girl on reception knew very little and suggested we went to related hotel for travel information. Room basic. Bathroom tiny with wash basins in sleeping area outside bathroom. Room right opposite Church which had bells that rung every half an hour but at 5am they rang 12 times. We paid half board and the dinner was not very interesting. Breakfast too was poor.Little selection, hot water dispenser didn't work and flies on the food. Couldn't get wifi to work. Bags were to be sent to next hotel to arrive at 2pm at the latest but arrived after 4 pm because they forgot. Cannot recommend. Saw other hotels which we suggest you research. Only good thing was its position. Close to everything including the train.

Didn't stay at the hotel but stopped off for lunch at their restaurant after a day of hiking. Cozy atmosphere and good food. We'd been hankering for raclette and found just what we needed after a long day outdoors. If you are staying in the Engandine Zuoz is worth a visit It's a very photogenic small town in a very pretty setting.

Found this hotel by chance when looking for a place to stay on a long drive. Great value, and I can imagine this place being a great option for somebody looking to spend a ski holiday in the area`s famed resorts on a more conservative budget.

There is plentiful parking just across the street, rooms are cozy and appropriately "mountainy", there`s a nice terrace on the roof offering a panoramic view of the valley (with its nearby railway viaduct, but its still nice) and there is privacy aplenty (none of the paper wall treatment one gets in newer buildings). As far as three star hotels go, there is very little to improve on this one.

If I was to really look for something to complain about, then if you`re really tall, you`re going to bang your head a bit in the attic rooms and the lack of a minibar was a bit disappointing, but overall, those are very small issues.

Food was great.

The staff were enthusiastic and genuinely nice (as opposed to the fake smiles you tend to get in many upscale hotels) even when I showed up for breakfast on time more suited for an early lunch. The buffet was still fully stocked and there were no attempts, not even subtle ones, to hurry the oversleeping guest (the mountain air does that).

Recommended!

I stayed at the quaint, comfortable, well-situated Crusch Alva Hotel in Zuoz in February '12. The inn has a great location right in the middle of the small town, 2 minutes on foot from the train station, from where you can reach all the amazing ski resorts of the Upper Engadine in minutes by train, e.g. St. Moritz/Corviglia, Corvatsch, Diavolezza/Lagalp, Pontresina, Celerina, etc. Everything is within a short 10-20 minute train ride.

The hotel is small and intimate with a bright, cozy breakfast room, a good selection of breakfast items (breads, cold cuts, cheeses, cereal, muesli, juices, coffee, tea, etc.) and everything is nicely set-up, fresh and tastes great!

The rooms are very spacious for this hotel category with a seating area, super comfortable beds (loved the clean and fresh down duvets) and nice, large bathrooms.

Understand that Zouz is a small, quiet village, great for families with small children, but less suited if you're looking for night clubs and bars. (There are no night clubs, but a couple of cozy bars in town). The ski school in Zuoz is famous and extremely well-run. Zuoz is a great base if you're looking to cross-country ski or skate.

I will definitely return to Crusch Alva!

We first went to the excellent hotel restaurant and liked it so much that we decided to move to this hotel located in a wonderful historic building. Our room had a view of the pretty historic village square and the mountains. It was furnished with typical wooden mountain furniture and had elegant brand new bathrooms.
We ll be back!
