The hotel is rather past its prime and gives the impression of being run on a shoestring. The rooms are lovely and all have balconies but everything feels rather` passe`. There is an old, disused banquet room near the pool. The pool itself was lovely to swim in but had a load of old, broken sunbeds around it. It would be so easy for the owner to replace these with some new ones. Breakfast was ok but again lacked sophistication. We were there in August and the spa was completely closed. The owner said that they only used it in winter. The only meal you can eat there is breakfast and it is a 10 min drive into Besalu - a beautiful old Spanish town full of character and restaurants.

A bit of a Spanish Fawlty Towers this one. We had high expectations of this "spa" set in the foothills of the Pyrenees. It is NOT a spa. It is an attractive, well-converted farm in a remote location, BUT the electricity is not reliable so we had to suffer a noisy generator running 24/7. We booked and paid for a room with a terrace and a double bed. It turns out there is only 1 and someone else got it so we had a room with a balcony instead.

The pool was 1/2 filled with dirty, green slime water, home to 2 frogs and a dead snake. Completely unacceptable! Apparently not to the staff...

The service was polite but slow. On the first night we ate there and had an 'appetiser' of crisps with honey and cinnamon. OK. Then gazpacho soup with apple flakes. OK. Then monkfish with honey and cinnamon. OK. Then ice cream and yoghurt with...you guessed it: honey and cinnamon.

Breakfast was odd.

Definitely a missed opportunity.

Room Tip: There is only one terrace room with a double bed!

The rooms are excellent and the hotel itself is superb with a very pleasant thermal spa.

Our problems commenced at dinner where it became apparent that we were the only guests and the manager himself was going to be waiter and cook. There was no choice and the four courses ranged from poor and tepid to inedible. The wine had obviously been opened for a long time and was very musty.
Following dinner we retired for the night and were conscious of banging in the kitchen the whole night - we could only assume that some refurbishment was being carried out.

Not a good experience! and such a shame as the hotel itself was lovely.
