We now prefer Torrox Promenade to Nerja as the parking is far easier. Plenty of good quality restaurants our favourite being the Brazilian where the portions are huge and the service friendly and efficient, Once the sun goes down, the walk up to the lighthouse and back is the perfect way to relax after a day in the sun. Plenty of free parking next to the Hotel Riu or in the roads leading down to the beach.

Just about to go back 6th visit. Love Spain esp this part. Lots of good places to eat, try the Brazilian bbq on the promenade and the Indian in laguna beach complex. Nerja is lovely and def worth a visit. The caves are also a great day out.

A good twenty minute walk from one end of the promanade to the other, which is full of restaurants and bars, and during the evenings is dotted with some fantastic market stalls selling unusual and hand made goods.

I am not spoiled American. I have lived and worked for the last 16 or so years. I have vacationed in beach places all over Europe - Greek islands, Croatia, many places in Italy and Spain - often, but not always, in budget places and I have had some wonderful times at the beach.

The beaches around Torox - from Torox to Moro - are the worst I have encountered. Few are sandy, most are pebble (large pebbles), and many that purport to be sandy beaches have, in fact, been replenished with dirt. I was there in the last two weeks of June 2012 and unpleasant memories are still fresh. The worst aspects of the beach scene are: 1.) the small, almost invisible, flies, which leave a welt worse than even black flies and last for up two weeks, itching like mad all the time and 2) the weekends when locals from inland arrive and create tent cities on the beach for their families, replete with generators, professional sound systems and barbecue fires.

I will never go there again. It's really awful.

If you find yourself in a similar situation, I suggest you flee to Malaga for a few days. The hotels are inexpensive, the city is charming and the beach just to the east of the port is very nice during week days. It is wide, quite long, and sandy. The find blows a lot and I was not bitten there.
