“Not all inclusive!!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2013

I recently vacationed in this hotel with my husband and 2 children aged 11 and 8 and another family. Whilst the hotel in itself is quite nice with a pleasant architecture, the service however leaves a lot to be desired. The lady at the front desk was most unpleasant not once but throughout the whole stay and the same could be said of bar staffs and restaurant seaters. I can understand that the sheer volume of people in august must be quite draining, it is not acceptable in my opinion in a hotel. The cleaning ladies on our floor as well as the chef Sanchez were the friendliest people in the whole place. If you come with kids and hope to rest a bit, forget it. The maxi club is awful and the kids hated going there + you have to pay extra for activities like painting on tshirts (which is mentioned nowhere). The food I will say was very good and varied but I don't think I would come back or recommend it to friends.

Room Tip: The suite for 4 is very small.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for selecting our IBEROSTAR Malaga Playa hotel for your summer family holidays and for the time and effort you spent to share your impressions on your stay because this helps us know where we can still improve in our daily work to offer great holidays to all our guests.
We took good note of your comments related to your disappointment on our staff. We passed them to the responsible employees of the concerning departments in order to revise and improve. Nevertheless we would like to point out that in IBEROSTAR the service orientation and personalized attention towards our clients are of prime importance. We do all the possible to school our personnel so that they surpass guest expectation and work accordingly to our demanding quality standards. We find it very sad to read that on this occasion we could not make our goal and commit to do our utmost to assure that any situation that does not meet excellence is corrected.

Moreover we are deeply sorry to hear that your kids didn’t enjoy the many activities organized for them by our professional animation staff by the kid’s and maxi club, however we would like to point out that the all-inclusive treatment is mainly related to food and beverage, the animation for kids is included nevertheless some extra activities may be on extra charge.

I just wonna thanks for everything. It was the best holiday ever. Great food, nice room and the garden in the hotel was amazing. Big pool and of course a lot of sunbeds and sununbrellas. The hotel is next to the sea and also next to the promenade. Just 10km is small city Nerja where you can go during evenings but of course you can spend also such a nice time directly in the hotel with hotels animator who is taking care about your time. I will came for sure again.

Room Tip: Higher floors have less unit noice

I chose this hotel from a short list of 4 from Jet2 holidays. My family (myself, hubby and two kids, 6 and 3) have never done an all-inclusive, package holiday before; me being a bit of a holiday snob, enjoying a family villa in the Canary Islands most years, and cruises (including Disney Cruises) and a lover of Australia, I never really fancied the "posh Butlins" type holiday. Boy, we have been missing out! My kids were in Heaven, not only was the pool fantastic, the 1 bedroom apartment was spacious and kept us separate from the kids (bonus). The Kids Club staff (the mini-club) from ages 4-7 were so utterly lovely. It really made the holiday. I've always felt a little uneasy using kids clubs and also a little mean, after all, we are holidaying as a family to spend time together. But the hours the club was open were just great, a couple of hours in the morning and a couple in the afternoon so it really broke the day up. It was a flexible set up and the kids could stay with us if they didn't fancy the particular activity they were doing. Where we parked ourselves by the pool each day also meant the kids were always in our sight. The mini club staff didn't just look after the kids, every evening they were always involved in the entertainment, which every night included a mini disco, but then followed more adult entertainment (but family friendly)... And it was all superb! I can't believe how hard they all work, but you can tell how much they all love their jobs! Each day there would also be a different activity for everyone, adults and kids, but importantly, the staff were very warm and welcoming when inviting you to join in, but NOT pushy!
The food was of a very high standard and the waiting staff were all very polite, friendly and professional. We all came back a few pounds heavier with such good choice and quality of food and drink every night.
Our room was cleaned and towels/bedding changed every other day, which was also a refreshing change....it meant we weren't rushing every morning to be out of the way of the service staff.
The spa has a good selection of treatments, hubby went for the sports massage, very good by all accounts and on a par with most hotel spa prices in this bracket.
All in all I cannot fault this hotel for anything. We did not chose this hotel for location and I'm guessing there would not be much to do in Torox itself, but if you want to be entertained, relax and be fed great food in lovely surroundings, you really cannot go wrong here!

Recently spend long weekend with 3 other 40 yr old women.
Lovely hotel excellent AI price when booked in Jan with its early bird offers directly with hotel web site.
Side sea view twins v comfortable , fridge in room. Good quality food. Shows better than average and a v impressive adult exercise day programme . 45 min class 3-4 a day . Step/ Zumba / aqua / yoga
Usually got beds before 11 am( strict 45 min only off bed policy) otherwise easy walk to beach (4-5 euro comfy lounger). Lovely big pool, take care weak swimmers deep drop mid way not obvious .
Own taxi 1 am 4 people charged 100 euro, back via hotel 60euro. Take white clothes for the Friday nt white party.( out door singer dancing encouraged , the only out door entertainment of the week)
We seemed to be the only Brits there ,didn't bother us but had we taken our children they probably wouldn't have wanted to go to the hotel's mini club and unlikely to have made friends.
Hotel quiet by 1130 at night .
Nice promenade, clear sea but grey sand,quite a sleepy resort taxi driver said this the nicest hotel in the area.
.Enjoyed half day in Nerja more shopping choice.
Wine not v nice but good choice of cocktails AI and we noticed they offered bottled beer with evening meal. Shame didn't offer an alternative restaurant even excellent buffet would get repetitive if they any longer.
Staff v friendly , even brought cakes and fruit around pool loungers late afternoon. Nice touch . Would definitely recommend if you don't mind being one of only a few Brits and being in a quiet area .

My family and I stayed at the hotel for 15 days and left hotel on July the 18-th (2-bedroom apartment # 2212).
We had a vacation with our 2 children (less than 2-year and 7-year daughters) + mother-in-law.
In general we were expressed by the hotel overlooking, location etc. We travel a lot around the world, have been visited and seen lots of excellent hotels (4*, 5*deluxe)...generally, is to what to compare. Iberostar Malaga Playa not a bad option to have a vacation, but probably not during the peak travel period (July, August).

The mostly critical issues we've faced:
- room cleaning was superficial (may be it is an issue only at the hotel apartments); in particular a bathroom stuff - toiletries was not renewed at all, just only 1 time at the day of check-in; bedding was changed 1 time only and in 1 bedroom only;
- regular issues with sun-beds at the pool area were took place, it feels like hotel capacity does not fit to the amount of guests which hotel takes over; we took 4 sun-beds every day, once, we found out that 2 from our 4 sunbeds were occupied by other people after we left our sun-beds for 10 minutes. Towels and our personal stuff were collected by safeguard staff. We spent 30 mins to resolve this issue. I have never seen before when a hotel staff collects personal quests' stuff. We knew that it is prohibited to book sun-beds for more than 45 mins at Iberostar Malaga Playa, but who can define and track these 45 mins.... the hotel do offer to hotel guests to check their watches.... sorry, it is not a vacation, especially with a taking into consideration the money were spent;
- children's playground location is not at the sun-protected area and not safe; after 10 AM all playground stuff is hot because of the sun and children can get burn (especially from the metal slide); swing is not safe for the children less than 4 years;
- porter's service do not provide to guests on regular basis and in morning and evening time in particular (this is not a standard of 4 stars hotel), On the check-out's date at 09:00 AM we've moved our heavy luggage with my wife by ourselves, and I saw that the similar issues were take place with the other guests;
- regular pending in turn to enter the restaurant in the evening hours before the restaurant entrance.....;
- children's animation at a very poor level (in comparison with other Iberostar hotels we were before);
- issues with guests card's operation at the beach entrance/exit gates, usually guests made lots of attempts to open the gates;
- and finally I was completely disappointed by the issue occured at the date of check-out. I paid twice for the birthday cake been ordered for my wife. Once I paid by cash at the time of order (1 week before her birthday, invoice was issued to ensure that payment was made) and later on I was charged to the room bill. In spite of all efforts which I made to convince the staff at the reception they charged me and while we negotiate this issue the reception staff was not enough polite. I think that when a hotel guest insist on an issue like this, the hotel stuff have to hold-on issue at the hotel end until internal investigation get done. It would seem, that this was an absolutely small issue - 30 euros it not money, but it gives me full understanding of that some personnel of the hotel is absolutely not concerned about guests satisfaction and also don't try to cause feeling that the guest is welcome at hotel for the next stay. Today in the morning I sent the paper confirmation that payment was done at the time of order placement (hotel invoice which I found out) to the hotel e-mail as we agreed....1 business day left....and still no answer.

We took all-inclusive, the food was good, drinks, refreshments also.
Too limited snack options. Limited options for low fat food, even in a vegetarian corner dishes were flavoured with a lot of olive oil, I believe that minimum 20-40 gr of oil in a standard 250-300 gr portion.

My family left the hotel with the feeling that Iberostar Malaga Playa is a not good value for the money and does not fully correspond to 4 star level.

Dear Guest,
First of all we would like to thank you for your preference by selecting our IBEROSTAR Málaga Playa hotel for your family holidays as well as for taking the time to write a review on your stay so we are able to know where we can still improve in our daily work to guarantee top quality services to all our guests.

We are sorry to hear your disappointment on the cleaning of your accommodation, however we would like to point out that in the room you find the brochure that explains how to indicate that you wish your towels or linen to be changed, for instance there is a flyer to be placed on top of the bed whenever you wish your linen to be changed and related to the towels, you have to put them in the bathtub to have them replaced as well, this is a procedure on a global level as our philosophy includes the preservation and respect for the environment avoiding energy and water waste still keeping an excellent service to fulfill the needs of our clients at all times.
Related to your comment on the sunbeds, as you mention, our hotel policy forbids its reservation by placing personal belongings or towels on them, this is why when our lifeguard notices that belongings are left but no one is actually using the sunbed, he removes the items and returns them as soon as the guests come back by the pool area, in order to give others the chance to sunbath; this information is displayed all over the resort.
Moreover, we would like to point out that the safety of our little guests is one of our major concerns, this is why we can easily state that all the playground facilities are in accordance with security laws and are checked frequently, however, unless the kids are under the professional attention of our Mini Club Staff, they have to be watched over by their parents at all times.
Further, we have gone in contact with the hotel regarding the double payment of the birthday cake for your wife, we deeply apologize for our mistake and we have been informed that as we speak an answer to your email has been sent and the hotel is dealing with you directly.

On the other hand, we thank you for highlighting the quality of our culinary and drinks offer, at IBEROSTAR we know that meals are a very important facet of our guests’ holiday experience, this is why our Chefs strive to prepare a wide variety of local and international dishes in order to please all palates.
We hope that you had a nice journey back home and to have the opportunity to serve you again in our hotels worldwide at your earliest convenience ensuring you in advance of our utmost caring dedication.
Kindest Regards,
