“An Albergo at its best....”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 20, 2013

This was the first time we had arranged an independent ski trip for the family and I have to say it was worth the extra effort. The Soldanella was a perfect family run hotel, from the warm welcome from Barbara, to the funny and attentive staff members who made sure you had everything you needed. We had a room on the front (101) with a small balcony so we could sit out and watch the world go by, and the sun go down which was a lovely touch.

The location is perfect for the lifts as the gondela is just over the road, and with a ski hire shop next door and the ski pass office at the gondela station you have everything you need within easy reach.

The hotel has a ski storage area on the side of the hotel, but the boots are stored in a series of heated cupboards in the main hotel so no problems with cold, stiff boots in the morning.
There is a very good bar in the hotel, but there are plenty of others around, including cafe central, Queens Club, and Cafe L'Genuina to name a few.

The buffet breakfast may be discribed as continental, but it was extensive with several cereals, toast, jams, cakes, eggs, cheese, ham, rolls, coissants.......it goes on and on. Dinner is also a feast for the eyes and each dish chosen was as delicious as the last (and you were always offered a sample of the other dishes on the menu).

Overall this hotel was the perfect base for skiing in this lovely, compact resort, and above all was brillant value for money.

A group of 15 of us from the Black Horse in Cranham, stayed here at the end of January. For some of us it was our 4th visit. Once again Barbara did us proud, the food was better than ever and the value is superb . Close to the chairlifts and the inimitable Cafe de Central with its Jolly Landlord just next door for apres ski , couldn't be better . We will return again in a year or two and hopefully the Val di Lei ski area will be improved ! Thanks again Barbara !!

We have previously stayed at La Meridiana close to the gondola, which was a nice hotel but rather pricey so we sought a better value option. After reading good reviews on here, we decided on La Soldanella. I'm not sure why La Meridiana has 3 stars though when La Soldanella only has 2. This place is a lot better value, and only across the road and 50 yards to the gondola. So I suppose you are paying all the extra for the prime position of La Meridiana.

The rooms were comfortable and warm with a good sized shower ensuite. We had a front facing room which was slightly noisy because of the building work opposite and general street noise. Of course the building work won't go on for ever, and you have to get up for breakfast anyway. The rooms were well serviced every day.

Breakfast was the usual continental breakfast style, so we are used to that. We stayed half board , and the evening meals were nice tasty local dishes, which we generally enjoyed. The service was good too. There is a busy ristorante/pizzeria to the front of the hotel, which you can always eat there instead of having your evening meal option. The ristorante was busy most nights and seemed popular with the locals, and that is usually a good sign.

The owner, Barbara, is fantastic, and runs a tight ship and it shows. She was also very helpful via email prior to our stay regarding parking, weather conditions,etc. Nothing seems to be too much trouble for her or the staff.

I could go on and on, but I'm not sure what else you need to know.

We were very pleased with our find (thanks to trip advisor contributors) of a great little place that didn't cost a fortune.

Hotel is situated in a 'semi-pedestrianised' road, you can pull your car up in front of the hotel to unload then they have thier parking around the back.
The hotel location;
quite centrally based for ski lifts, the gondolla is approx 50yds walk from the hotel front door, and the chair going upto lag azzurro is approx 5 -10mins walk down a gentle slope from the hotel.
The hotel has a ski locker for storeage and boot lockers by the entrance.
'Barbara' owns and runs the hotel and obviously takes great pride in her hotel and runs a tight ship! she is extreemly friendly and helpfull as were all the waiting/restaurant staff.
the hotel has its own bar and restaurant which is very popular for lunch and dinner with non residents, they do great pizza and pasta.
The room;
clean, and a fair size. lots of space for storing ski gear, bathroom looked almost new with a great power shower. We did have a problem with the room feeling cold on our first night, i went and reported it and immediately 3 staff appeared all to get our radiator going which seemed to be luke-warm, it was fixed immediately for us, we think the problem was that they had actually turned the heating off in the building as we were the only people staying there that night (we arrived thursday and its a weekend haunt for italians comming up from milan)
Due to us catching a late flight home we had a word with Barbara who said was not a problem for us to keep the room for as long as we needed which was a great result!
Overall the hotel is clean, the staff are great and nothing is too much trouble. we will definately be returning.

The resort really is a 'weekend town' for people comming up from milan and as it was the end of the ski season not much was open (bars) on our first night (Thursday) but when friday/saturday comes the whole place comes alive.
