“An oasis”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 28, 2006

This was a last minute decision to stay at the Hilton at the airport.

You see, we had booked a hotel on Via Nazionale in anticipation of spending a week in Rome on our honeymoon. We arrived at the Termini train station after the train ride from the airport into the city, and tried to find a cab to take us to our hotel. Sadly, we weren't good enough for the cab drivers, who told us to walk the 600 meters to our hotel. I presume they wouldn't take us because it was too close, but after a long flight and with luggage, walking in an unfamiliar city that looks and feels rather 'rough' was not what my new wife and I were looking for.

So we went back to the airport and changed our flight bookings to leave much earlier than we had planned on.

The reason for all of this commentary is so that you know that when I say that the Hilton was an oasis in a desert, you know what I mean. They really helped my new wife and I perserve our honeymoon happiness after a frustrating, tiring, and disappointing day. The employees at the hotel were the first friendly people we met in the country.

  • Liked — The friendly service
  • Disliked — the long walk from the airport (about 1/2 km)

We stayed here for the last leg of our trip and we went on points so our hands were tied. It was very convenient - we took the Leonardo Express from the termini station right to the airport, and from there plenty of signs to the direction of the hotel, which is attached to the airport. The hotel needs some major renovations. We stayed on the second floor, and they have hallways marked by different colors, we got the pukey green hall. We had adjoining rooms as we were travelling with our two young children. The rooms STANK - musty and damp. I could not sleep that whole night cause I kept thinking bugs were biting me in the bed!!! We found out the next evening that the rooms were not used for quite a while - because the shampoo and conditioner they had out the night before was a previous vendor, the hiltons now use the crabtree and evelyn line, which we found the next day!!! So the rooms had not been cleaned or aired out for a while!!! In any case, the second night was much better. It was convenient also since they provide a shuttle bus to center of Rome (near monument vittorio emmanuel). They were on time and FREE. It's an airport hotel (I think the only one too!) so we didn't expect much. Overall, it is very convenient. When we checked out, we walked with our luggages right into the airport, so didn't have to bother with taxis from town or anything like that.

  • Liked — Close to airport, shuttle bus to town and back
  • Disliked — Not clean! Decor needs updating

Despite some of the negative reviews I booked anyway due to the location and taking an early morning flight out of FCO, and I am so glad I did. A four-day Taxi strike would've made the trip from our hotel in Rome to FCO very dicey at best. Expect this to be a less-fancy Hilton and accept it for the extreme convenience to the airport. Is that worth a price? I think so. Unlike other reviews, I found it to be a very short walk into the terminals, just like walking from one terminal to another in any other airport in the world. Five-ten minutes tops. The hotel restaurant was fine for dinner, and the breakfast buffet spread was actually pretty fantastic. Service was fine. I would stay again and again for the peace of mind and location at FCO.

We always like to stay at an airport hotel on the last night of a long trip so that we can have a hassel free time and get to the airport quickly for our flight. We have stayed in airport hotels all over the world and it has always been such a breeze. But not at the Rome airport Hilton. After returning our rental car we searched for a luggage cart to no avail. We were travelling with two 80 year olds and we had to walk the long distance to the hotel with the moving sidewalk not working, carrying luggage. It was not a pretty scene. We checked in for 2 nights and all we wanted to do was take an afternoon nap to get some rest. There were loud noises from what we assumed were noisy cleaning people. After an hour without stop we went to the front desk to see what the problem was. The clerk appear not to have a clue until my husband described the noise as sounding like some one dropping weights. Then the clerk said, "Oh, you are over the exercise room." We told them this was unacceptable and they moved us to another floor. Our travel partners shortly afterwards changed rooms also. After settling in our new room, our friends showed up and we discovered both couples had been given the same room/key. Back down to the desk to clear this up. At around midnight that night, I hear noises that sounded like someone trying to break into our room. Fortunately we had used the security latch. My husband went to the door and discoverd another couple who had been assigned to our room. The clerk once again assured us this was just a computer problem and it had been fixed. They offered to move us to the Executive floor but we were tired of changing rooms and could see no advantage except more food and drinks that we did not need. We ate dinner and breakfast at the hotel. The service was very slow and getting the waiters' attention was next to impossible. We finally got our drinks after our meal had been served. At breakfast my husband finally got up and walked over to the waiters, interrupting their constant conversation, to ask for coffee. We reserved the shuttle van for a 9:30 trip to the airport. When we came down at 9:20 it was getting ready to leave with only 2 passengers and the driver said our names were not on his list (he would not do another run until 9:45). On the positive side, the shuttle bus into Rome is on time and convenient. The buffet breakfast is extensive. All in all the disorganized, inefficient and unfriendly servicewe received was a big turnoff and we would not stay here again, nor would we recommend it to anyone else. We are Hilton Honors members and were disappointed with the shabby treatment we received at this hotel. The convenience of staying near the airport is also offset by the time it takes you to walk to and from the airport. If you are not fortunate to catch the shuttle van, it would take you only a few minutes longer and you could stay at a friendlier hotel.

I spent 3 nights here in June and was pleased. The room was nice clean and big compared to most other European hotels. Housekeeping was thorough even tidying up my strown items. Breakfast buffet-- the food satisfying, the service excellent but price expensive (24 euros) dinner (27 euros) which included burger, fries, dessert, soda & tea or coffee. If you don't purchase a meal plan, it might be better to arrange your plans so as to eat all meals downtown. There's nothing near the hotel that I saw. I never had problems finding seating on the shuttle going or coming back. My floor was quiet and no interrupted sleep. Overall I was happy with my stay and would stay again.

We spent one night at the airport hotel prior to leaving Italy after a three week visit and were impressed with the facilities and the courtesy of the staff. The room was pleasant, plenty large enough for two people, and the bellhop demonstrated how to use the lights and air conditioning, a first for us in Italy. The shuttle bus to downtown Rome is a great service and it took us directly to an area near the Forum. We had an early morning flight and were running late and the hotel provided a minibus to deliver us to the terminal. Staff were pleasant and helpful throughout our stay. We would definitely stay there again.
