“Newer contemporary hotel, good location for Rome airport”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 14, 2013

Lobby and rooms new and contemporary. Room had balcony with view of the Mediterranean sea. Only 10 minute 15 euro taxi ride to airport. Fiumicino is a fishing village with several small restaurants. Ate at the hotel where the seafood dinner was good and reasonably priced.

Loved the hotel...exceptionally interesting location where all the fishing boats arrive...great outlook over the wharf...lots of great seafood restaurants and not far from the airport...a shuttle is available duting the day. The room was very comfortable and the internet rate was quite good value. However, I had a big problem with the staff. Front desk insisted that we should only be at the airport no more than two hours before departure...and a taxi at the last minute for a 6.15am flight would be fine....this is after telling us the airport (Fiumicino) woud not open until 5am...(are they serious). Naturally the taxi arrived 15 minutes late and for people who are "ten minute early" people this caused a lot of grief wondering when the promised "only 2 minutes away" taxi would arrive.

As someone else pointed out....breakfast was not included but the rate was cheap enough to not worry about it...€8. It was just okay...but not good enough for a 4 star hotel...just a €8 breakfast. I was not impressed by the dirty dishes left in the hallway from one afternoon until after the cleaning the next morning. I asked about how to get a bus to a shopping centre...Gina was very helpful in researching the bus timetable but this sort of basic information should be available...such as how to work the television so we ciuld get into the Sky television remote. I guess I am just feeling a bit a aggrieved after 4 nights at a hotel in Rome where all these issues were thought of and answered before the question was asked...and 14 days on the Amalfi Coast where we felt very valued.

In summary...lovely room and hotel...fantastic location for a short break before catching the plane...but staff have not got it together....but despite the issues with the staff...I would return at the internet rate.

The hotel is very nice and new. The rooms are very functional, clean and nice, most have a balcony. You have a great view over the river and sea. sometimes a bit understaffed. For a hotel in/near Rome it is perfect. Also an evening walk around the area is recommended.

Room Tip: High floor, room facing the front.

The hotel is indeed very nice. Watching the fishing boats come in was a fun bonus. The breakfast that the website says is included with the room rate was not included. Upon checkout we were assured that breakfast was not included as we made our reservations through our travel agent. So for a cup of coffee and a cup of yogurt I was charged for a buffet breakfast, just plain ridiculous.

The hotel is clean and modern. Our room had a nice view of the Tiber river and the bed was very comfortable. The wifi is free but If you have more than one device, ask for two passwords. The bar staff were friendly and the breakfast buffet was very good. The walk along the river is lovely and there are numerous cafes and restaurants to choose for a meal. It is very convenient to the airport but be careful when taking a taxi. Four of us with luggage paid 40 euros for a 10 minute ride. The hotel shuttle service back to the airport was punctual and cost only 6 euros each.

Fiumicino is a small city nestled on both sides of the Tiber as it flows into the Mediterranean Ocean. Its airport is one of the main reasons to be in this town. The Hotel Tiber faces the fishing docks at the mouth of the Tiber River. It's clean, modern, and comfortable. The ride from the airport takes about 10 minutes and the taxi commission has set a standard rate of 20 Euro for the trip from the airport to the city of Fiumicino.

Our flight was early and arrival at the hotel was before 10:00 am. The staff was pleasant and made every effort to have a room made up for us. We were in our room by 10:45. Room 416 faced the Mediterranean and was bright and sunny. The full terrace was equipped with two chairs and a small table and the breeze made the space very comfortable.

Our room was had two Hollywood size beds that could be pushed together to accommodate a queen-sized request. Most of the furniture was built-in. Lighting was good and fine for reading. And closet/shelving space was ample with separate spaces for each of two guests. Floors were white tile. Bath was well-equipped with cast marble vanity, shower/tub, bidet, and plenty of towels. Water pressure good and no wait for hot water.

There was a safe and a blow drier and a complimentary pair of bright orange slippers were supplied to each guest. The signature color here is orange with bottles of shampoo, soaps, and other amenities packaged in bright orange. Leather headboard was a checkerboard of orange, yellow, and burnt sienna. Paintings are horrible things of women in beach gear - again in orange and yellow.

The lobby was modern and comfortable with a bar that extends out onto the outdoor terrace. Dining room and pool are located on the roof of the building. We took breakfast with our room and we also decided to dine in the hotel restaurant. Food for the restaurant appears to be prepared on the ground floor and sent up via elevator. Food was less than average and not well prepared. Service was slow as molasses and wait staff and manager seemed not to care. Breakfast was equally mediocre. Scrambled eggs ran out and took a good deal of time to be replenished.

I generally liked the Hotel Tiber with the exception of the restaurant. I'd suggest a pleasant walk along the waterfront where you'll find lots of restaurants that are particularly good. We tried one called La Dolce Vita and loved the freshness of the seafood and the family character of the place.

Room Tip: Ask for a Tiber view

We chose this hotel because it meant we could take the hire car back to the airport, and use the hotel shuttle the next morning, without the stress of sorting out the car before the return flight. The shuttle service is frequent, the journey is 6 minutes from the airport but you must reserve your place for the trip back to the airport. The location is over looking the River Tiber and is pretty, bearing in mind this is a working port. The rooms are spacious, modern and clean, which applies to the whole hotel. They are well insulated against any outside noise. I also liked the safety features in the bathroom, an emergency cord to pull over the bath and also a handle to hold onto for the less abled, to help get in and out of the shower/bath. There is a roof top swimming pool and this is also the level where you have a generous buffet breakfast. There is a terrace bar and restaurant Latitude 41, although I would suggest that if you want authentic, fresh seafood that you eat at one of the many local restaurants. The staff were delightful, here was I hoping to practice my few words of Italian but they all spoke English and couldn't do enough to help.

Room Tip: We had a superior room at the front with a view over the river.
