You need to know this restaurant to go there because it is at the far end of Matala shore, up on the slope. In fact, the restaurant is made up of a few terraces in different level.

The price is slightly expensive. Guaranteed value are the dishes of the day like the fried sardines and moussaka that we had taken. On the other hand, the fish soup is 15€ and quite oily, almost like drinking olive oil. The crab salad is just crab meat, not enough to be taken as main course.

We went there already in low season, so we didn’t need a reservation but I guess it is worth making one in high season. Place was nice, up the sea, atmosphere was friendly and staff was very attentive. We ordered seafood risotto and lamb chops, with some greek salad - everything was cooked really nicely and I would say they use really quality ingredients. The only downside was a cheese cake at the end which wasn’t really prepared the way cheesecake should be - but at the end of the day: never waste a dessert, so we still ate everything :)

The owner (Manolis) is warm and very helpful, the food is as good or better than any in Matala, the ambiance is lovely and the views from the restaurant are spectacular. One of the best places for seafood in town.

After a day visiting Crete’s famous archaeological sites of Knossos & Phaestos.
We decided we needed chill out by the sea & Matala just fitted the bill.
After a short stroll & a beer.
It was then time for an early dinner before returning north to Hersonissos.
You can’t fail to notice Scala perched up on the cliff side & no better place sit, drink, eat & watch the sea roll in.
Good menu with excellent food offer to suit all. The “Baked Feta” was delicious.
We also shared an amazing complimentary sweet which was a “Date Cheesecake with Syrup”.
The staff & service was superb.
Great place to visit, just be careful of the steps.
We also got to see the wonderful Matala beach sunset.

Delightful location overlooking the beach and the cave studded headland. Very good seafood selection, attentive and knowledgeable service and reasonable cost given the high quality.
