“A very nice place to be, with a WOW-factor at breakfast”
Reviewed September 2, 2013

Hotel Coral is a quite and clean place to stay, just out of the centre with its busy crowd and noisy musicbars (just a 5 min. walk). Maria is a nice woman who runs the place for many years now. Her English is at a high level, if not, outstanding. I personally like her pro-active attitude and her humor. If your destination would be Matala, the Coral Hotel IS a really nice place to be for about one or two weeks.

A very good hotel! Maria and her husband, the owners, are very friendly and helpfull. Very good and clean room. Tastfull breakfast on the terrace with a lot of choice. Not far away from Matala - only 10 minutes to walk.
We miss the barbeque Marias husband does on sunday noon - we saw it too late there was a weekly BBQ. Next time! We recommend this hotel for peaple who likes a cosy, calm hotel with a personal touch and authentic greek ambiance.

Returning to Matala after 20 years and having spent 14 nights at Hotel Coral and were hugely impressed; from the moment I inquired directly to the hotel about making a booking (where i received an immediate and professional response) until our sad departure on Wednesday. Maria the hotel owner, as described in many other reviews, goes 'above and beyond' in every way. Her and her husband Giorgos are exceptionally helpful, warm and welcoming people and run a spotlessly clean and efficient hotel. The rooms and balconies are a little on the small side but with so very little time spent in our rooms this didn't matter. The rooms were spotlessly clean, the wardrobe and drawer space was good and included in the room was air con, a safe and a fridge.

Breakfast was simple but fresh and sufficient and included all the things we were expecting; jams, breads, cold meats, tomatoes, feta, eggs, fresh juice, tea and coffee. Occasionally there would be an additional surprise 'plate' such as roasted peppers. As my children slept through breakfast every day Maria kindly gave me sandwich bags so that i could make something up for them to eat when they woke up!

It was so lovely to meet Maria and her family who are all very involved in running the hotel. Her two young sons entertained my 12 year old with lots of games and her husband Giorgos very kindly picked the four of us when we missed the bus returning us from the beach!

Hotel Coral was relaxed and peaceful (we often had the pool to ourselves) and we can't wait to return in the future.

We visit the Hotel Coral for their Easter. May 5th 2013. What a wonderful experience! Maria and Georgos (the owners) involved us in each aspect of the preparations leading up to their Easter festivals. From dying eggs to candlelight midnight mass on the Sat/Sun. The hotel is small enough to be on friendly terms with the other guests but big enough to have your own space and solitude. The beech is only 500yds from the sea. We found the sea temperature a little cold and the hotels swimming pool came in very handy. We stayed at the Coral a few times and are always happy with the quite, calmness about the place. When I'm on holiday, I spend very little time in my room and so enormous bedrooms are not my first priority. The Corals rooms are comfortable with a separate wet room, small fridge and great air con. units. The windows are a clever 3 way system. you can have the mossy screens down and allow in the cool outside air or have the double glassed windows closed for complete silence and then roll down the shutters for the well deserved lie-in. The famous home made jams at the continental breakfast are always a real treat and there's always plenty of food. Maria is always saying 'if you need..just ask'! We're going back again in September and my only worry is it will get so popular can't get a room.

Room Tip: We usually go in June and September when all the schools have gone back, so it's always lovely a...

I have just spent eight days in the Hotel Coral and like so many other visitors I intend to return some day. It's a small, spotlessly clean, quiet and friendly place to stay. Maria, the hotel owner, goes out of her way to please everyone. She has first class English. The hotel is very modestly priced, about 10 minutes from a beautiful bay where the swimming is good. The rooms are simple and ensuite shower/toilet efficient and clean. They are all equipped with fridges and I think have their own outdoor sitting areas. I loved the early morning bird song from the dozens of birds in the trees and vine canopy immediately outside.
A modest but perfectly adequate breakfast is available from 8.30am to 10am; the home made fruit preserves are a real treat. If Maria isn't too busy she is willing to prepare light salads or omelettes for snack lunches which you can enjoy on the large outdoor terrace. However, you will probably want to eat in the village which has a huge choice of cafes and restaurants.
the hotel also has a small pool and children's shaded play area.

We stayed for two nights at Hotel Coral and had a great time, a good night's sleep and a great breakfast. My only complaint is the adjoining patios where you are forced to interact with your neighbor, even when they are smoking constantly and the smoke goes right into your room! Maria was a joy to talk to. We hope to make it to the Hippie Festival next year and stay at Hotel Coral!

Very good hotel in terms of price/quality. A warm welcome by the owners. Very good breakfast buffet. The hotel is very quiet and about 5 minutes walk from the beach. For a next holiday in Matala, we choose again for hotel Coral. Maria and family, see you. Rudi and Ingrid, Blankenberge, Belgium.
