I stayed in the same towerroom as 3 years ago but did not recognise it. Totally redone and imaculate!!! All the luxury you could want in this very charming hotel 200 yards away from Schloss Mespelbrunn, really worth a visit.
Personel was very friendly and helpful, most of them english speaking and the food was excellent.
To bad we only stayed for 1 night. Week could have stayed for weeks!!!

This is the first time I have ever been at this hotel. It is about 1 minute's walk from the water castle. The people were very nice and accommodating. The rooms are very well appointed and roomy. I stayed in a "comfort" double room. The hotel is located outside of the town. A road takes you to both the castle and the hotel (hotel comes first). There is a large parking area in the rear of the hotel for guests and there is a large parking lot earlier for visitors. The food was excellent. They apparently change the menu regularly. I stayed for 3 days at this hotel. The shower was something I am not used to however, being a walk-in shower where the water falls directly to the floor and eventually into the drain. I found the shower to be a bit "tight" however, but then again, I am not in the shower all day so that was only a minor inconvenience. Each room appears to have a balcony from what I have seen. I asked the owner, and the hotel itself is 800+ years old, but the interior is fully mondernized. The restaurant areas are large and "German traditional" which I find very appealing. For what I received from the hotel, I can say that the price was very in order and actually a little on the inexpensive side. With the dollar gaining against the Euro currently, this was a very good deal for me. The buildings are very well maintained and nothing struck me as needing any direct attention as far as maintenance. Overall, this hotel is an excellent value for the money and although it is heavily appointed, the prices in the restaurant were not "too" expensive. I can understand why this hotel is a 4 star hotel. You would do well to spend part of your Germany travel here and it is only about 16 kilometers from Achaffenburg where one of Ludwig II's castles were built (another fairytale like castle on the Main river).

Room Tip: There is access from the street level for those unable to circumnavigate stairs with their bags and such. The reception desk is actually on the floor above the front of the hotel. Stay on the street side of the hotel, you will have an unbelievable view of the forest and nature. There is no traffic past the hotel during the evening as it dead-ends at the castle further up the street/road. Use GPS to navigate to this location because it is easy to miss the turn-off for the hotel.
