Hotel du Canal

We stayed here for one night prior to starting a weeks charter w/LeBoat on the canal du Midi. The hotel is right on the canal and about a 10 min walk along the canal to the Le Boat harbor. It's also about 10 min from the train station which is how we arrived.

The staff were friendly and helpful. Not everyone spoke English but those who didn't would get someone who did when needed.

They have a nice patio outside for relaxing and having a cold beer on a hot day. Breakfast the next morning was buffet style and quite tasty. We'd definitely stay here again.

As other reviewers have stated, this little hotel is fine for a night. It is only a short walk into town, and there is free car parking. We were delighted to find it after a five hour drive, and Castelnaudry itself is worth an overnight trip. Very friendly lady on reception. We asked for a canal view room and she said there was just one twin-bedded room left. I think the rear bedrooms that overlook the canal are probably all pretty dark, ours certainly was, and small. The beds were narrow but OK for comfort. There is no A/C but there was a ceiling fan. I noticed when leaving in the morning that a couple of front rooms (that were being cleaned) seemed much brighter and larger than ours, so maybe one should forego the "canal view". Breakfast was good, served in a bright, clean dining room, and it only cost 6 euros. Free WiFi a plus, and there is also a computer available to use in the reception area.

We stayed one night, which was enough. The room was basic, more like dormitory than hotel. Only had one bath towel - asked for another, but it never arrived. I've never seen notices saying "Silence - hotel" and "No talking in the corridors" before. Is it a hotel or a monastery? We chose this because it wasn't a chain hotel, but had better experiences in chains on the drive back home. Positives- the breakfast was good and it's only a short walk into the town.

We just stayed one night but that was enough. It's an old tired hotel with small rooms and no A/C and no amenities. Our room overlooked the canal, which is pretty and very handy if you're planning on biking along the path. There's also a door through the restaurant that leads to the canal and locked storage for bikes. The hotel is only a block from restaurants and stores and the staff is helpful and friendly and it's better than the other places in town but I think they should do a bit better at those prices.

We stayed here for one night, having chosen it based on Trip Advisor reviews, and it was just what we wanted. We were picking up a boat from Le Boat, for a one-week canal cruise starting the next day, and arrived in Castelnaudary by train from Paris late in the afternoon. The hotel is a short walk from the train station (very do-able, even dragging luggage), and sits right on the canal. We had canal side rooms, and found the rooms to be comfortable, clean, quiet, basic, and offering everything we needed. Wifi was strong, and free of charge, which was a bonus. Breakfast (for an extra 6 Euros) was good, with breads, coffee/tea, and various yogurts, cereals, fruits, cheese. The nice people who run the place gave us good tips for restaurants (we tried one of these - La Belle Epoque - and had excellent cassoulet and wine - one of the nicest meals of our trip), walking around town, the market (Mon morning), etc. They also happily stored our luggage for us in a groundfloor room after check-out, until we went to the boat. The Le Boat harbor is a 10-15 min walk down the canal from the hotel, but you can pull your boat up to the hotel to load, if you want. We would stay here again, and definitely recommend it!

Room Tip: Try a canal side room

I have given this a high rating because, for a French 2-star, you would have a job to beat it.
Very pleasant welcome with good English if you need it. Offered a choice of rooms and we chose one overlooking the Canal du Midi, which is lovely at this point, with good towpaths for long walks or a stroll into town. The Port is only a few minutes walk away.

Rooms (we stayed in two because we returned later in the same week) were spotless and the beds comfortable. We slept well--there is distant train noise but we found it no problem at all.

Ample parking right by Reception. Breakfast was good in a quiet, spacious and well-lit room overlooking the canal. No restaurant but several are nearby, just walk along the canal cross the road and there is a choice of canalside haunts.

Would certainly stay again. Desreves to be better known. It's a combination of modern and traditional and very well run.

I recently stayed at this hotel on the Canal du Midi. All the staff was very pleasant and accomodating. A pleasant woman brought out bottles of wine and snacks for 2 couples to share on an outside table by the canal after a long day of traveling. The light on the canal was just beautiful and a group of artists staying at the hotel were sitting in various spots painting lovely scenes. The rooms were roomy enough and clean, nothing fancy. Breakfast was available with fruits, cereals, hard boiled eggs, yogurts, cheeses, breads, etc. We stayed one night before boarding our canal boat. The staff let us leave our luggage and when we returned with the boat, a gentleman came out to help us tie up and load our luggage. A great place to stay, peaceful with good restaurants in town!!!
