“Perfect Overnight Stay”
Reviewed December 29, 2012

We stayed after reading previous reviews, and we were delighted with our stay. After a very long drive from the UK to Toulouse this hotel was very conveniently located near the autoroute. We were tired and hungry as were our two Burmese cats! The room & bathroom - basic but spotlessly clean and had all the facilities we needed, the bed was fantastic, large and very comfortable with a great warm duvet. The restaurant, was an unexpected surprise,in that the quality was excellent, great choices and very well prepared with pleasant, prompt and helpful service staff.
Overall the staff were polite, helpful and courteous. In addition there was no charge for our two cats.
We would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to others seeking an overnight stay and would definitely stay here again when heading North or South! Well done !

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms have the best access but all rooms quiet.

We have stayed at this motel several times en-route from The Languedoc as it is very convenient for the motorway and at 60 euros was the best price for a Campanile in the area. It was clean, the bed was comfortable and fortunately it was not hot enough to need airconditioning. Wifi was free and we were pleased to have an English speaking TV channel despite it being CNN! We did not like the dispensers in the bathroom for soap and shampoo/shower gel ( a reminder of cheap hotels) and we felt the food in the buffets offered less choice and cheaper options for more money however the redeeming factor was the pleasant and charming staff despite there being only two of them in the restaurant that evening.

Always stop here when en route to/from the UK, always a friendly reception and helpful staff. As with all hotels near roads and railways ear plugs are necessary and it could do with the upgrade to include air conditioning, but always clean. Restaurant service was the best encountered this year, four people serving and both buffets well stocked and replenished regularly. Scores top marks for convenience from the autoroute. If you want a cheaper and more cramped room there is a Premiere Class just opposite.

I just got back from a European tour of Spain, France, Germany, Holland and Belgium by car and ruined by one hotel. When will the French try a bit harder with hotels???The French leg of the tour meant arriving at the Campanile Orleans after a 10 hour drive from Burgos, Spain. We arrived at 8 pm and collected the last remaining room. The restaurant looked fairly full so we enquired about dinner but were informed there were already too many waiting . We went for a quick shower but found our room was shut up like an oven and was at about 50C. After opening the window and door the room never cooled and so I spent the night in the car and sitting on the steps after my bed became too wet with sweat . I could hear everybody had the same problem as doors and windows and blinds were moving all night. Nowhere to get water and nowhere to get food. We found the shopping mall and ate in Flunch for breakfast but not after the worst night I have ever spent in a hotel. (and I have stayed in every *** forsaken country on earth) . Only stay in Campanile in winter otherwise just sleep in your car on the motorway services,.... its better value. Room price in July 2012 was 100 euros . In Burgos we paid 60 euros for a great hotel (the Bulevar) and 106 euros near Frankfurt for a 4 star hotel with private balcony overlooking the park (the Park Hotel in Bad Homburg). So why is a french torture chamber worth 100 euros???

Room Tip: get there early enough to get the door open for 12 hours before trying to sleep in your car.

Nothing really bad, nothing really good, apart from the open and friendly response when I called to confirm the reservation for late arrival, and again when we arrived. Top marks to the 'responsable'. The room was OK by Campanile standards: small, laminate floor (good!), clean bathroom. Very convenient for the autoroute, and though we were on the autoroute side, we were not disturbed by traffic noise. The bed was excessively soft, however, and two lights weren't working. ['The light in the corridor isn't working.' 'Oh, yes it is, you have to use both switches' 'Did that: it lights top and bottom only' 'Ah'.] Lousy selection of beverages, no milk or powder whitener, horrid paper cups. We've learned to bring our own tea bags, cups and milk. I'm beginning to conclude that Campanile hotels are aiming at a rating of reliable mediocre, and that I could spend €75 in many better ways. Compared with our superb central Berlin apartment at €95/night, this was very disappointing.

We dash back and forth from the south of france about twice a year and always need to book somewhere for a short stop. We rarely stop until relatively late in the evening so all we are looking for is a convenient location, secure parking, clean and comfortable bed and bath (and of course, relatively inexpensive). On this score, the Campanile really was very good.

We didn't arrive unitl about midnight as we were cuaght in traffic around Paris, We tried to call the hotel but found our mobiles not set up with roaming, and couldn't find payphone in any service stations. Needless to say, the guy on reception was not happy that we didn't phone to say we'd be after 11, and made it known. Not a pleasant encounter at midnight after a long drive from Calais. Fortunately, he was speaking French too fast for me to be 100% sure what he was saying!!

Checkout was swift the next morning though, and we both slept well in the room. Would I stay here if I was staying longer than an overnight stop, I highly doubt it. But for what we wanted, it really did the job. Poor customer service, great value.

As soon as we came off the autoroute, jct 1, we saw the large neon sign of the Campanile so finding it couldn't have been easier. The surroundings didn't bother us much as it was dark. The receptionist was very friendly and welcoming. The outside motel-style bedroom and bathroom were comfortable, clean, warm and tea/coffee facilities very welcome. Entry gates were locked from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. and we were given an access code should we have needed to venture out. The room was of sufficient size, and we both slept very well. We didn't use the restaurant. All in all it proved a very satisfactory stopover on our long journey from Carcasonne to Calais and good value at 50 euros.
