“Villa Mango - A Hidden Treasure”
Reviewed February 5, 2014 via mobile

The setting was beautiful. From the moment you walk through the gates, you feel like you've entered a very special place off the beaten path. The grounds and pool were really lovely. Our room was also quite nice, having everything we needed. The best parts about this place were the large and welcoming veranda, exposing views in all directions as well as the hosts. I'd say they were the most hospitable and gracious hosts we met throughout our two week stay in CR. Jo and Agnes were wonderful. Thanks for a lovely stay!

Villa Mango was a wonderful experience. Our room (the Toucan) was beautiful, with its own private patio complete with hammock. At $90 we thought it was quite reasonable for what we got.
Our friend had their best room, at $109, I think, and it was truly fabulous. Incredibly, we all spent the evening in her bathroom (!!!) which had two leather rocking chairs and a lovely chaise lounge, and looked out through a big curved open-air "window" into the jungle and the ocean beyond it. To top off the experience, we saw a monkey at the foot of the steps, too, which was quite a treat. The whole place has a fantastic view of the hills and the ocean. Note: When you first pull up, it looks like a dump, but the second you pass through the gates, you're in a beautiful tropical garden, and it just gets better and better from there!

I can't wait to go back to Villa Mango. Lively, tasty breakfasts; beautiful rooms on gorgeous grounds; a perfect swimming pool; and most importantly, run by a wonderful couple who make you feel like part of the family. My husband and I spent 5 days of our honeymoon here. Agnes and Jo are fun, funny, and provide excellent service to their guests. I loved the relaxed, trusting atmosphere (meaning I felt perfectly fine leaving my laptop on the terrace if I needed to run back to my room for something). Agnes and Jo helped us plan activities, pointed us to the best restaurants, and regaled us with stories of their travels and adventures. I would recommend this B&B to anyone wanting to get away from it all.

Room Tip: Specify if you want A/C. Some rooms have units; some don't.

My bed was so comfortable. The room was spacious and clean. The view is magnificent with hammocks and a wonderful pool. Complimentary breakfast was delicious. Agnes and Joe were there for us at all times and although our rooms were not ready when we got there they safely stored our belongings so we could go out on adventures. Agnes also suggested a Fantastic restaurant for fish dinner down at the beach. If ever in Costa Rica again I would definitely return. The roads are difficult but worth the drive and the B&B doesn't look like much from the outside. But once you pass through the gate you think you are in another world.

Room Tip: Website is a little unclear as to how many beds are in each room. Email Agnes if you have questions...

My wife and I stayed at Villa Mango (VM) for a week this January and timed it perfectly to escape the cold in the DC area. We flew in to Liberia airport and drove down- about a 2.5 hour drive. The roads are rough and bumpy the last stretch. Once you get to Nosara there are plenty of signs to direct you to the property. When we arrived at VM, the dust and stress of travel melted away. Agnes and Jo, the owners, are cordial and hospitable- they welcomed us and made us feel right at home. There is a fantastic view from their hill top down to the ocean, The grounds are well kept and neat. There is a well stocked cooler of beverages on the main porch - providing a most welcome cold beer after the drive. Breakfast everyday is between 7am and 9am and is delicious- lots of fresh fruit, yogurt and granola, then your choice of eggs anyway you like them, pancakes, bacon, gallo pinto. The large porch area is excellent for lounging about with plenty of chairs and hammocks. While we were there a yoga instructor gave a class every Mon., Wed. and Fri. morning. The outdoor pool is just right for a dip after a day of being out and about. We had the "Pizote" room with a queen bed and large, spacious bathroom and a "partial" ocean view- but really it was a great view.. Very nicely appointed. We did not use the A/C at night but it was available if we had wanted to. The bathroom area has a large "open" w/a curtain that can be drawn for privacy. The grounds are well kept with interesting flowers and plants and the frequent wildlife visitors. My only caution is that to take full advantage of the Nosara area, you are best to have a car. There were a couple of guests w/o a car and I felt they were at a disadvantage. The property is within relatively easy walking distance (10 minutes) to Playa Pelada, but no really not w/i walking distance to Guiones or the village/commercial area of Nosara. For us, this was a plus- it made for a more quiet and relaxing stay. If you are in Nosara to surf though, you might want a choice closer to Guiones. We loved Villa Mango and hope to come back again soon!!!

I cannot recommend this hotel enough. It is the perfect size, well run (by a French couple) , and clean, authentic Tico rooms. There are a variety of rooms to stay in but I liked our Toucan room the best as it had a huge shower and a private garden sitting area with a hammock. The hosts Jo and Agnes are experienced in hospitality and it shows in their attention to detail without being fussy or over-involved in their guests. You get to order ANYtHING you want for breakfast-that is after a spread of fruits, homemade breads, granola, and coffee and teas are set our for self serve for impatient people like me who need their coffee ASAP when I wake up. The hosts will book any excursions you need, recommend restaurants, and they offer excellent yoga several mornings a week. I loved the honor bar with well priced drinks of all kinds to drink by the pool, in the hammocks, or on the patios. Go-you won't regret it!

Room Tip: You need a car.

We had a good experience. The hosts joe and agnes were very friendly and helpful. The room was of medium size and the bathroom was nice and spacious. Breakfast included some tasty fresh tropical fruits and the standard egg and bacon. There is a nice view of the ocean and the beach is just a 10 minute walk away. There are safes in the rooms and internet was fast. And an hammock inthe porch! I would recommend it to a friend
