High above the dust and dirt of the Nosara area stands the Hotel Lagarta, run by a brilliant husband and wife team, exemplifying fine hospitality. We were staying at a so-so hotel in the area, while on our second day of driving around, saw this place and had lunch there. An excellent meal with a commanding view of the coast and beaches. We asked Regina if they might have an available room, and were told, yes, they had a cancellation. She showed us the standard and deluxe rooms, both just fine. But the deluxe were very new and modern with the best views. So we chose that. We weren't just booked in. Rather, they sat down with us and gave us a nice drink - we had their excellent pineapple-crushed ice drink and told us about the place and the reserve and trails also part of it. We also made reservations for dinner - an absolute must since this is THE place in the Nosara area for sunsets. Sure enough we had a fine table for dinner, which was excellent - a tad pricey but well worth it. We chose the option with breakfast so went down the next morning. A small but packed buffet with eggs of your choice, even a pancake (not run of the mill but gourmet) with real maple syrup, a couple of slices of amazing homemade bread, fantastic coffee, juice and more. Needless to say, you could fill up there for the day. We hiked back up to our room - it's a steep climb - to sit and look at the view below for a few minutes on our private balcony with these Costa Rica style rocking chairs made from leather and footrests. After driving around some more we returned for a nice dip in the average size but pleasant pool. The beds were high quality and lots of light in our unit. We also had a round table in its own view location. The bathroom was large and pleasing and very modern. One problem with the shower was that it tended to leak out so we had to be careful - it's one of those walk in showers. Parking is at a premium. You won't always get a space inside, but they appear to have a guard outside where there is more (uncovered) parking. The inside parking is covered. At night, the winds really come up and bring the ubiquitous Costa Rica smell of burning ... whatever. The views in March are pretty dry. Regina believes November is the greenest time. Overall, we felt good while there and in the end that is what counts.
