We 'dined' at La Luna in November 2010 (and previously in Jan 2006) and can only describe the latest as a bizarre experience. It had newly reopened for the season, and there appeared to have been just two guests before us that night. We were well looked after by an English friend of the owner, in Nosara studying Spanish, who was very friendly and did her best in the circumstances... It started well with a top rate margarita and mojito - great barman. But the food! Nicki's choices were fine, so was my ceviche starter (though It's probable this was bought in as it closely matched the local 'standard' which it seems most hotels buy in from a local producer). My second was muscles, supposedly in a mariniere type sauce. It was nothing of the sort as we were told when it was served the new chef did not know how to prepare it. It was not to my taste or I suspect most people's, and I was offered squid rings a s an alternative. Mistake... again by them... it was like elastic bands coated in a thick batter. Quite inedible. Of course, they didn't charge, and even offered us a complementary digestif as consolation. So it was back to the magaritas... Sweet: unremarkable. Would I go there again? maybe.. I'd check what was on first, though. (The restaurant is owned by the same people who own the half-abandoned Nosara Beach Hotel nearby, a place surrounded by many stories and rumours. It's a weird Middle Eastern influenced rambling pile which has huge charm and could make a fortune if finished, improved and properly marketed. Think Port Merrion-meets-Gormenghast-meets Ali Baba. Go and have a look round).

This place is a one of the farthest restaurants to drive to in Nosara. The location, patio dining, and decorations are wonderful. It is idyllically romantic. However, they only take cash. And this is not a cheap restaurant. It was as pricey as pretty much anything in town, maybe a little less than Harmony. It is a 20 – 30 minute drive to get there. And the ATM is back in town. We loved the look of the place and menu, so we made the trip back for cash. Sadly, the service was amateur and the food was average. The pricing really is too high for cash only.
