We booked the ‘séjour romantique’ arrangement at the Domaine du Valaudran. Alas, nothing could have been less romantic than our stay here, starting with the extremely matter of fact welcome.

Although the exterior of the building promises authentic details, the rooms were startlingly plain.

A three course dinner was included in the arrangement, but I wish we would have just gone out to get a simple meal somewhere else. Starters were tasteless, with snails from the tin served with ‘fresh’ pasta that had seen better days.

I could see the waiter coming out of the kitchen with out main courses and could also see him noticing we were still finishing our starters. He then set the plates down, took them back into the kitchen, took them out again, cleared our plates and immediately served our main courses that were by now lukewarm.

Worst of all was the dessert. I ordered the moelleux au chocolat, a chocolate cake that should have a molten core that gushes out when you stick a spoon in. Anyone could see that the high, narrow cake that was served was a failure, and indeed it proved to be so: completely solid. I asked for another one, which was slightly more succesful and runny, but in my eyes it reeks of contempt for your guests to even try to serve the original one in the first place. See if you can get away with it, the stupid tourists wouldn’t know what a moelleux should be like anyway.

All in all: nothing special, especially the dinner, and for the rather steep prices you really should expect a higher level of service and quality.

Mme bonjour

bien cordialement
Me MASSU

Great hotel located next to junction of motorway. No noise though. The resteraunt was quite fancy and pricey so went into the town for dinner 5 mins drive. Found a good steak house. Pool was great and the kids loved it. Would go again

A one night stay on the way home & we chose the Chateau.
It was an ideal stopover due to the close vicinity of the motorway.
We received a warm welcome then directed to our room in a newer extension to the Chateau,
A fairly dark room , lots of beams to dodge especially the sloping ceiling above the bed which meant you could not sit upright in the bed to read.
Slightly tired overall. Room a little musty & on opening the window we found cigarette ends on the window sill.
We dined in the restaurant which was OK although some of the waiting staff had a problem with smiling. Food was adequate but sadly nothing special.
Breakfast was DIY - even the coffee .
I felt that Customer Care was in short supply.
We would not recommend & unfortunately will not return. Disappointing .

Dropped off the motorway half-way home from Spain to UK to find this beautiful property near the junction. Took a room for the night and sat with a cool beer to unwind in glorious sunshine and surroundings before dressing for dinner.

Dinner from the set menu was adequate, but could have benefitted from a greater choice. Service was stylish, warm and welcoming. Wine a tad expensive, and coffee not included in the set meal price.

It was a hot night and the aircon wasn't up to the job, but how great to wake up in the morning with the tall windows flung open looking at the long driveway full of wildlife. A real oasis of calm.

Bathroom and waterfall shower were good, and the room we found to be clean.

Room rate reasonable, but the add on breakfast is pricey. On the whole though well worth the Eu210 for the total visit for us.

Will will definitely aim to stop off there again, and can highly recommend - particularly given the nature of most hotels nearby the French motorway system.

Room tip: At the front of the building overlooking the driveway with extra wide double bed

Finding somewhere to stay when travelling with two dogs can be difficult, but this hotel ticks all the boxes. It was ideally located just a few minutes from the motorway and had some nice grounds for walking them in. Our room was a little quirky but perfect for us and the dogs. The meal in the evening was one of the best of our trip, with excellent service, a good choice and each course delicious. Breakfast in the morning reasonable too. All reasonably priced, definitely a good place to break your journey.
