“Beautiful resort”
Reviewed January 2, 2013

We stayed here for 2 nights during Christmas 2012. When we arrived, we've got an upgrade to a larger room, because the room we had booked had some problems. We got a real spacious room, with separate living room, with beach view.

It is a relatively small resort, which makes it personal. The food is good. Sometimes when it is a bit busy at the restaurant the staff is a bit stress full and they make some small mistakes with the food or the bill, but nothing major.

There is free wifi in the lobby and for 5000 shilling (for your whole duration of your stay) you can use the wifi in your room, at the pool or at other places in the resort.

The swimming pool is small but nice. During high tide it is really nice to swim in the ocean.
The boats to go to see the dolphins depart directly next to the resort.

Small hotel, with very personal service.
The large rooms in bungalow style were kept very tidy.
Restaurant serves very good food.
We liked everything being so quiet in the resort. No animation team, no loud music at night. The perfect place to stay for relaxing.
The hotel is situated next to the village of Kizimkazi. The hotel offers the opportunity to go for a guided walk into the village, which I can really recommend. The "guide" is part of the staff of the hotel (medical helper) and lives in the village.During the visit, he invited us into his house, and offered some fresh fruits to taste. Some days later, he even took us on a bike tour to the old mosquee in the other part of the village.
Also, the more common excursions can be booked at the reception of the hotel, such as daytrip to Stone Town, Spice Tour, boat trips,...
The staff is very nice and very helpful.

We spent 4 amazing nights at the Swahili Beach resort on the South East coast of Zanzibar.Remember to take $50 for the Visas at arrival. It went fairly quickly at arrivals, considering the chaos at passport control. There was a group of guys at the luggage collection holding onto the bags and requesting money to hand it over. Just say no thanks and move away swiftly with your luggage.

There is an exchnage bureau at arrivals. We were told by our travel agency not to exchange money at the airport, only to find that there were no ATM's, banks or Exchange Bureaus in Kazimkasi. We were fortunate enough that the resort had credit card facilities and we had a few dollars which we used for tipping and some meals. If you get a chance, stop at a bank in New Tow or Stone Town before heading out to the resort.
The resort is located in the Kazimkazi village, about an hours drive from the airport. The villagers are very friendly. The beach has has incredibly fine white sands which can only be enjoyed towards low tide. There are loads of boat tours going out to the islands, swimming with dolphins and snorkelling, rices ranging from $25 to $80 per person.

In terms of restaurants, there aren't many in the vacinity. If you walk alont the beach you can eat or drink at the Promised land bar. They make great Calamari. The village also hosts a few eat-out spots. There is a bed/breakfast in the village right next to the resort with very cheap food and drink(about half price) Swahili Resort restaurant is where we ate most evenings. The food is good and fairly affordable. We only ate fish. The red snapper was probably the best and they make an awesome prawn salad. Service is very good. Wine is very expensive, so stock up before going. Only 3 types of beer to choose from, we did not see any importd beer. There is a bar-fridge in the room.
Breakfast was very simple and not much of a selection(fruit, bacon and eggs, toast and pancakes).

There was Wifi in the resort which cost us about $3 for tthe 5 days.

The resort has a beautiful pool area and a dive shop which organises scuba, snorkelling and Dolphin tours.

The rooms have mosquito nets, ceiling fans and aircon. There was a TV but most of the channels weren't working, which didn't bother us becasue we weren't there to watch TV. The rooms are cleaned every morning. There is a geyser, the water is salty.
We had a safe in the room but they didn't have a key so avoid taking too may valuables.

The bar area has a big screen with HD satellite, comfy couches to sit on and a selection of board-games.

Expect a few power failures during the day and night. The longets one lasted about an hour and was at 5am. The day ones lasted about 1 minutes.

All in all in was an awesome experience!

Room Tip: Choose a room closer to the beach.

What can I say about this hotel and the area surrounding it without gushing? We visited just before the end of Ramadan to find the hotel empty with just the two of us as guests for the whole of our two week stay......for us this was heaven. All the accommodation in the immediate area was also very quiet so the gorgeous white, powder beach was only shared with the local villagers. We were immediately upgraded to a beachfront bungalow and the staff could not do enough for us nor could they have been friendlier or more welcoming. We saw no more than eight other guests coming and going during the whole of a two week stay and loved every moment of it. The Zanzibari people are without exception friendly and welcoming, even in the bustling streets of Stone Town we found the local residents charming. We loved Zanzibar and all it has to offer. I do not think we will ever get sole use of an entire resort again, but we will certainly be returning. We felt like part of the 'Swahili Beach family' when we left even receiving farewell hugs from the hotel management. Simply magical!

Swahili Beach Resort is the perfect antedote to the hustle and bustle of modern life. Situated on a lovely stretch of beach in Kizimkaze in the southern most point of Zanzibar, it is an ideal spot for swimming, bumming around on the beach, gazing at the beautiful sunsets and watching the twinkling lights of Dar in the distance. This is also the place to come if you are interested in seeing dolphins - you can either book through the hotel or one of many local guides can take you. It's location means that it exists cheek by jowl with Kizimkaze village. By the end of my two week stay, I felt I was able to grasp the local culture and traditions going on around me - alot of resorts in Zanzibar tend to barricade themselves off from the 'real' lives taking place on their doorsteps, but Swahili Beach actively encourage guests to visit the village. Speaking a little bit of Swahili goes a long way and the beautiful, kind, friendly staff were only to happy to teach me and my boyfriend a few words. By the end of our stay, we had made some friends for life. I will definitely return.

This resort has the most beautiful setting. For people looking for a relaxing break from the rat race I would highly recommend Swahili Beach Resort. From an early morning swim to a lazy breakfast, chilling out by the pool. A boat trip to swim with dolphins to an evening spent playing board games with other gusts it was just what I needed. Practical comments Wine is on the expensive side if you are used to South African prices. Try the fish and local dishes on the menu. Entertainment the only TV we watched the whole week was the SA Italy rugby match. Finally I must comment that JP& Ilka went out of their way to make our stay pleasant
