We stayed for 3 nights and had a 3 bedroom villa to ourselves. It was large and very spacious and cleaned well everyday. Cleaning lady did flowers in the villa everyday:) The private pool was a bit chilly but we still swam everyday. The diving at swahili beach resort was excellent and miriam at front desk arranged a taxi to take us back and forth. Our showers had no water pressure and was only downside about room. The staff were friendly and helpful. Food is ok, i enjoyed the toasted cheese and tomato sandwiches the best and my husband the veggie curry, its not particullary good but it is Africa and is comparible to other places.

Stayed here in July 2010 as part of a 3 week tour of Tanzania for a wedding. Wonderful place to relax, but needed some attention. Food was generally good, but service could be very slow. Dining area cold and windy at night -- large open windows with no gass or shutters. Staff generally friendly. Villas fine. Three en suite rooms, patio, balcony, private pool. Good shower in our room -- a plus in Tanzania in our experience. No fridge or kettle in kitchen - other villas had these. Quite a distance to Stonetown, but we had our own bus. Spa and bar on pier both closed whilst we were there. Rooms always clean -- not a given during our trip.

Four of us stayed at this resort last year as part of a week long stay in Zanzibar. While on the web the resort seems to have everything you could possibly want, in reality we were all really disappointed with our stay here. The place is seriously lacking in atmosphere, the service was slow and, at times, unfriendly. The food was poor and definitely reheated on more than one occasion. Our trip to 'see' the dolphins was a rip off and ended without us seeing anything. We cut our visit short by one night when one of our party became ill, possibly with food poisoning. Even then we had to argue with the management that we wouldn't pay for that night citing the above complaints. I know this is a new resort, so maybe over time some of these issues with get sorted out. However, as there are so many other friendly, more intimate and relaxed places to stay in Zanzibar, my advice would be to check out somewhere else for your stay in paradise.

Somewhat out of the way but an ideal place to relax after the safari. The Villas are incredibly comfortable and roomy (3 double bedrooms - all en suite), with large living rooms upstairs and downstairs, balcony, patio, kitchen (kettle and fridge/freezer but no cooker). The views over the sea are brilliant. Unfortunately, if you want to see dolphins you need to take a boat trip. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful and frequently outnumbered the guests. A new flower arrangement with freshly picked flowers (from the hotel garden) appeared in the Villa every day.

My wife and I took our family, son, daughter in law, two boys aged 5 and 7 and another son 27 for Christmas. Firstly the Villas were excellent. 3 ensuite bedrooms, a ground floor lounge with TV and a pool right outside the verandah. This was great for the whole family. The negatives were. No cooking utensils in the kitchen and we had to get glasses and ice etc from the bar. No water supplied so we had to purloin that from the bar. The beach was small but acceptable. The food service was a bit of a shambles with
(on the first night) mone girl trying to barbecue a large fish, chicken and steak on a very small fire. whilst two members of staff were doing nothing behind the sweet table and another three doing nothing at the cold food table (until I suggested that one of the gilrs could help out with the BBQ). In a nut shell all through our stay there was a lack of organisation in the replenishment of food on the buffet table which left quests waiting, sometimes for 20 minutes for food to be replenished.
All in all though we thoroughly enjoyed our stay with both Ole and Ben being very friendly and helpful and most of the staff very friendly.
WHAT WE MUST NOT FORGET is that the Dolphin View had only been open about 6 months so with a little more time and experience things can only get better.
They had just opened the bar at the end of the pier on our last 3 days so hopefully that might be organised in future. I would recommend the Dolphin View if you like a quite holiday plus snorkling and swimming with the dolphins. Glad we went.

Cost about $300 for three AC bedrooms per night with large sittingroom, flatscreen TV, satelite reception, a kitchen, a second floor with additional bed (fan only and mosquito net) and balcony for nice sundowners. So, it is possible to fit four couples into Villa (the fourth will have to be content with fan and no AC).

Negative points: Kitchen has no fridge or stove, no utensils.
The buffet restaurant (there is a separate lunch menu) gets boring quite soon. You can however use the limited lunch menu as dinner menu in the bar. I would have liked to see fish (fresh), or prawns or octopuss on the lunch menu.

AC in my room lost gas one day and was fixed within 24 hours.

Ask the boyz in the fishing village to organise a snorkel trip for you. They take you out on a boat to three snorkel areas off coast. This is an hour trip and we paid $15 per person (if you have your own snorkel equipment, else a bit more expensive). Very nice.

I would return to Dolphin View.

Maybe it is difficult to write a fair review when the whole island is without electricity - as it was in December 2009 but these were our findings

Positive:
- the generator worked well - so the disruptions were acceptable
- good food
- some good bands for the evening entertainment
- very big rooms - villa is the correct word

Negative:
- Our villa was not finished (first day no water , second day no hot water , fifth day no water) - there was a hole in the roof which means it rained inside during downpoors and there were birds - no kitchen or not even a water glass
- Very isolated - which means excursions are difficult and they are overpriced as you depend 100% on the hotel ( a"taxi drive to the stone town was 100$ return - in our case we suspect the driver was a dealer)
- Not always so easy to communicate with the staff which may impact service
- if you come here after a safari , bring enough clothes because the laundry prices are similar to the Ritz
- snorkeling from the pier - there are more jellyfish than actual fish

FYI - the bar on the pier is finished

so the main problem is the price / quality ratio of this hotel . If you are a larger family or group interested in mainly swimming this may be just the right place for you - the villas are large and have pools
If you are an independent couple looking at a combination of sightseeing and beach holidays - you may be disappointed .
We booked a bit late but paid 390$ for a villa H/B between XMAs and New Year for 2 people - from a price quality perspective what we got is nowhere near what we paid for and as such we recommend couples to shop around - you can get much better value than this in the Indean Ocean

and despite it all we had a great time
