We didn't actually stay at the pallatium so can't really comment on the facillities(so ignore my ratings),but our friends did.
I would just like to mention the friendliness of the owners Maria and Manolis, we spent an afternoon and a couple of evenings there with our friends and they treated us as if we were paying guests, they were quite happy for us to use their pool and Manolis plied us with an endless supply of grapes and fresh fruit and free raki, whilst Maria was so friendly and laughed with us at our inadequate greek.
Whilst their well stocked bar kept us happy with prices as reasonable as any in Gouves.

At the moment there is a building site opposite but it is noisy anyway with planes and coaches. The apartment wasn't cleaned and there are no cooking facilities that are really useable. We wanted somewhere quiet but the apartments are very noisy and it is a long walk to get to anywhere. You can catch a bus at the end of the road that are cheap and air conditioned but they do run to their own timetable. The beds were like boards and tiny very thin pillows made for very uncomfortable nights. The owners were friendly until you complained and did very little about anything. You couldnt have balcony doors open due to noise from planes, coaches and building work and air conditioning was 7 euro a night.
We wont be going back!!

After trawling through online holidays i took a shot in the dark for a quick getaway with my girlfriend. I had been to Crete before but to the resorts of Stalis, Malia, Ag Nik, But wanted something different so found The Pallatium in the resort of Gouves. On Arrival from Heralkion i was Pleasently surprised to find Maria the apartments owner still up waiting for us to check in as our flight had been delayed coming in & it was the early hours. if it had been anywhere else at that time then there would of just been a note & a room key there to welcome us. She greeted us with A few welcome drinks (Raki) & fresh local watermelon which my partner indulged into. This was the perfect tonic for us after the delay. The 1 bedroom apartment was very spacious with amennities like hob, fridge, plates, cups & saucers, glasses & kitchen utensils & to nice viewing balconies all we needed for a sc holiday. I would reccommend renting the air con at an additional cost approx 40 euros for the 7 nights as the temp in july/aug was 33-40 degrees celcius. The bar is small but cosy where you can get drinks & snacks for the day time when lounging round the pool. The pool itself is quite small. there is a 100 mtr walk down the road to the nearest supermarket where you can get all your everyday items & before that on the left side of the road is a hidden gem of a restaurant called Phillipo's which serves some of the best traditional greek food ive tasted. Kalamari & Shrimps saganaki is a must if you go there & very reasonable prices 2 x craths of wine 2 x starters 2 x main meals desserts & comp drinks on top for 25-30 euros anywher else & you would pay double the amount for the food that you would recieve & very family friendly which most tavernas are & kids eat free in most as well. When you get to the beach rd turn left & there is a 1/4 mile walk to gouves resort proper. where there are more bars, tavernas, craft shops etc but on a smaller scale to more livlier resorts.

Having read the reviews of these apartments on trip advisor, I was expecting worse than the actual reality. So, I made a point of checking carefully. The pool it was very clean (although there were four cases of ear infection during our stay). The room was clean and the bedding was changed once in our week long stay. Maria (the owner) and her husband were charming, drinks at the bar were reasonably priced and there was no issue of noise if you had the windows closed (The main issue being aeroplanes, the insects in the morning, and occasional cars in the road). The majority of the guest were British and over 30, although some had families – none had gone for the stereotypical 18 – 30 holiday, and none were noisy late night drinkers. The atmosphere was relaxed and friendly, and there was never a time when the behaviour of other guests interfered with our enjoyment of the holiday. The air conditioning worked very well. The beds were fine in terms of firmness, so with the air conditioning on we slept fine.

The self catering provision was, however, basic. There were two working electric rings and no oven or grill. The crockery and cutlery was lamentable, so things like a lack of a chopping-board or grater, and only one small set of cutlery and crockery per guest, just made cooking and preparing food a real chore.

The biggest problem, however, was trying to buy food, and here there were two issues:

1) Finding a supermarket in Gouves from which you could buy a typical “weekly shop” was impossible. The nearest minimarket (just down the road from the Chilli Lounge restaurant) was the best we found locally. However, this still left us with very little in the way of familiar cooking ingredients.

2) The most important problem was the fact that Crete is not cheap, and in a situation when we were eating out nearly all the time our money just evaporated. (Typically our main meal would be up to 45 Euros.) As a small family, we were easily spending 100 Euros a day on our “lazy days” and much more when were actively out and about.

When you compare this to the all inclusive deals available (many will give you full board and free drinks, typically for only around an extra two hundred pounds or less), it just makes no economic sense to go the Pallatium.

We arrived early hours to be greeted by Manolis, Maria and Kostas, what a warm welcome we received. This was one of the best holidays , if not the best and we have visited Greece for the last 20 years. The people are so friendly and the best taverna has to be Phillipos which was a 2 minute walk away, he was so kind, amusing and so generous! we had some good times with him up in the old villages and met some wonderful people whilst staying at the Pallatium. These apartments are spacious and clean with plenty of room around the pool area. We were so sad to leave such a lovely place, the family gave us hugs when we left and waved us goodbye with a bottle of their home made olive oil. Wish we were there now!

My husband and myself have just returned from holiday at Pallatium Apt. Gouves. Grete and we can honestly say this was the best holiday we have ever experienced (and we holiday avarage 3/4 times a year) On arrival Maria made us feel most welcome showed us to our apartment which was very clean with a lovely balcony. I didn,t expect a fully equiped kitchen but come on guys what do you expect you are in Geece, but what we had was adquate for our needs. The pool is lovely and clean and guess what - no fighting each morning for sunbeds We found the whole family was there to answer any questions you needed to know about buses, destinations etc., We will no doubt book these apartments again. The Cretans are the most friendly people I have ever met. We stood watching a wedding on the beach front around midnight the next thing we were invited in to join them, were we were treated like the family with plenty to eat and drink and we even came away with special wedding bread and wine to take back to our apartments. The people are wonderful. In all the taverns they treat you like long lost friends, Philipos just down the road from Pallatium Apartments is such a generous and lovely guy who cannot do enough for you.
Thank you Manolis, Maria Fakiolakis for such a wonderful holiday and many happy memories - hope to see you again.

the appartment was clean and basic ,pool was small but kept clean and it wasnt noisy or rowdy ,it was short walk to the beach which is sand if you walk a little way there are more beaches ,we were pleasently surprised at the location and tavernas to choose from the best being milenas which was fantastic organic home made food serving fresh bream and home made ice cream and cheesecake to die for ,there are so many restaraunts any way you turn ,there is also a resaraunt called ambrosia which is about a hours walk away but you can get a cab for 10 euros each way the food is very traditional cooked in clay pots and tastes amazing you will notice all the greeks eat there worth a trip, the pallatium was friendly and served snacks and toasted sandwiches beds and towels changed every four days also has air con for 7 euros a day well worth it ,there is a lovely breeze all the time on the island which keeps you cool ,also there is a place where we found a great breakfast for 5 euro each from lydas bar near the beach to the right ,where you get 2 eggs bacon beans mushrooms tomatoes four toasts tea or cofee orange juice and croisant with jam the best and cheepest there ,beware of opposite there is a place called the island where we had 2 omlettes chips and juice all for a expensive 28 euros not good for your pocket,it was a fantastic holiday not rowdy with drunk brits but lively enough for fun and quiet enough to chill balcony was vey nice to sit and have glass of wine etc ,we will go again as there is a lot to discover with boat trips and you can hire a car to drive up the mountains or bus it into town if you like to shop there are amazing things to buy ,clothes seem expensive and way too small for the average lady so take what you need overall a fantastic time see photos ive added ,if you go enjoy xxxx
