Staff are fantastic, so friendly. Rooms are basic but very clean, our air conditioning was a godsend. I am very fussy and don't like meat, yet I found something to eat everyday and salad is good for you so glad it was plentiful. Lucky for me I love watermelon there's plenty of it and I made the most of it. The location is great for the beach and for local shops. The pool is lovely and clean and when you need to cool off does the trick. Thank you to Thanos, Nikos, Giannis and Vagelis for fantastic service with a smile! Would definitely return to Kalia Beach.

Just back from an eight day stay at this hotel and loved every minute. The hotel is so close to the sea you can see it from both dining experiences and live traditional music every night. The choice of food was excellent and enjoyed everything. Between us we tried over 40 different savoury dishes during our stay and loved the salad and vegetables choices too. I would recommend this Hotel to everyone if like Greek food and even vegetarians. Families are also very suited as the small child's play area is not restricted and is positioned well so you can always keep an eye on them. Theres table tennis and a pool table for the older ones free WiFi in the bar and restaurant. Our room was spacious with a fridge and air conditioning, modern in lime green washed wood fresh white walls spacious and the beds were really firm and comfortable.
All the staff were helpful and so hard working you couldn't fault them. Everyone spoke english and the mix of holiday makers were international. The best beach is only 100 yards away and an excellent family atmosphere. Just as close to the shops and hire of transport. good position for visiting other places on the sea road in either direction east or west. Can't wait to visit again.

Room Tip: We had a ground floor room it was excellent.

My partner and I have just spent a week at Kalia Beach Hotel. We had read the reviews, however, decided to book the holiday as we required a specific room.We have previously stayed at the Blue Sky Apartments, which is now owned by the Kalia. We emailed with a request for the room TWO Months prior to our stay, and was told that if it was possible, we could have the room. On arrival, we were told the room was not available. We paid 50 euro for air con and was given the wrong remote! Further to this the air con then barely blew out any cold air - a total waste of time and money.

The food was awful - even if you have only paid a minimal amount of money, you should still be able to eat something on a all inclusive holiday.

If you are a vegetarian you may enjoy salad, rice, pasta, sprouts and on one occasion ratatouie (for both lunch and tea). Oh sorry rice and pasta are every other day and do not come with any veggie sauce - this is where tommy and the mustard sauce are handy. There is on occasion sloppy mash which makes poly- filler look delightful. We asked once if there was anything without meat and were directed to shriveled gherkins - No I am not joking! Sprouts are available nearly every night, so if you enjoy a bit of Christmas every day, this is for you.
Breakfast is the best meal of the day - yes the beans are cold and the toast is made of cardboard, however at least its not salad. Avoid the drinks unless you are desperate, everything powdered including the milk.

Dining room a little small to accommodate the couple of hundred hungry punters who appear to lose all sense of manners once in a food queue.

There was evening entertainment in the shape of Adonis. He would sit at the front of the restaurant where the 'paying' guests ate, so could not comment on the quality of this as all inclusive guests were not permitted to sit out. Nikos played Kiss FM for the punters on the all - inc. side of the pool bar.

On the positive side - the apartments were basic yet, clean and the cleaners friendly. ( Do take air freshener, drains are awful). Not a problem receiving fresh towels. Most of the bar / serving staff quite friendly, if a little quick to take your plate (if there is anything to eat.) All areas (except the toilets) are clean and the staff work very hard, hence the two stars)

The Little Train around Gouves is a must, as is a pizza at the Pella Restaurant. Do not let a stay at the Kalia put you off going to Crete. Locals warm and friendly and some picturesque areas.

Things I loved...
It was very authentic greek with bazouki players and greek music every night.
Loads of greek dishes in the all inclusive to choose from. But they also had pizza. pasta etc too!
Yiannis and Adonis were so nice and knew us by name and our drinks :)
It's literally in the best part of gouves right on the beach by all these lovely resturants!
Pool area was nice and clean also but a little on the small side.
The location was beautiful and ideal as it is only 20min transfer from heraklion airport and very close to hersonisos and malia so you can go and explore :)
Things I would improve...
The only spirits included in all inclusive was brandy, ouzo and raki...no vodka or anything nice :(
There was limited variety of food especially at breakfast and for dessert there was always just melon...
Our sheets wern't changed every day and sometimes they gave us bloodstained sheets?!!
It was two single beds pushed together in our room with a very small balcony
we had to pay 49 euros for air con then we found out other guests just switched there's on for free?
The restaurant outside the hotel had reeeeallly nice food better than all inclusive but it's a shame they didn't offer a discount because we were guests at hotel.

We paid £350pp for everything and I think for the price we paid the holiday was amazing had such a wonderful time. I think you can get better quality 3 star hotels though. Hope this helps. :)

Spent two weeks at Kalia Beach Hotel - No we didn't pay a lot of money to go here, but have paid similar prices at other hotels and had 1000000X better standards!

All Inclusive -

The all inclusive is by far the worst all inclusive I have experienced - even for the price we paid, we only actually ate here for the first week of our stay, we paid out elsewhere for the second week.
There is very limited choice of food, often only just warm and sometimes not even cooked properly!
Drinks wise the A/I doesn't include vodka and soft drinks were vile! The beer was served in beakers and tasted of bleach... when we asked for a glass we were told for safety reasons they couldn't... however every other drink was served in glass!

Rooms- Rooms were basic but clean. However, we did have to ask for our towels to be changed as after 4 days they still hadn't been changed. We were in the reception block and think the rooms were quiet old compared to other blocks.

One thing I would recommend from this trip is go and visit the anfield bar on the main strip in Gouves - Brilliant! and saved our holiday!
