A good place to stay, in front of nice sandy beach. Room was spacey with balcony to the west. We enjoyed wonderful sunsets.
There was not that must entertainment any more in September. Buffet meals had daily varieties in main courses, and tasted good. We stayed there with a group and had a pleasant time.

Room Tip: Rooms in main building on the west side to enjoy nice sunsets. In the unit behind the main building...

Stayed 7 days at this hotel early Sept. 2012, hotel was nice. Room was clean and comfortable with new furniture, with flat screen TV! Far enough away from the nightlife not to bother you, but also close enough for you to jump on a local bus and get to Hersonsinos which is 15 minutes away and very lively if you want to party! Hotel staff nice and friendly and very accommodating. The beach is at the back at the hotel and you have to pay 2 euros 50 each for a lounger for the whole day.

Room Tip: If you want to avoide the noise from the entertainment that usually starts at about 10pm, ask for a...

The hotel is very good, looks great, I understood that was recently renovated. Has a swimming pool, playground for volleyball and mini football, billiards tables, two terraces and a large lobby where drinks and snacks are served for All Inclusive, and even a small take away restaurat and a Supermarket (well, in fact is very small but in Greece it seems that any store that has more than 10 different products is Supermarket :) ) There are also facilities for people with disabilities. Even if furniture is not really new, rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable and have a balcony with a table and two chairs. The staff is helpful and friendly they are animators who invites you to take participate in all sorts of competitions, fun kids and evening offers entertainment programs (but do not expect too much from them). The strength is the food that is
excellent, everyday something knew, you can eat the fish, calamari and sushi or veal, turkey and
rabbit cooked in traditional style or grill, salads or pasta, is impossible not to find something to
like. The beautifull sandy beach is across the street, there not stones at all, you can walk barefoot
without problems, water is not deep up far away from shore.
What I did not like was the TV in the room which was small and old, with very few programs (BBC, RAI 1, TV5 Monde, one Russian and one Polish), and the Internet was expensive, even in the lobby was not free , as in many other hotels.

We spent a week in Astir Beach hotel in late July. In 2011 we was in a 3 * hotel in Greece but all that was little more elegant than this. The first surprise we had on the first day. We found that contrary to promises from Christian Tour travel agency had to pay for safe and no internet was not free as we were told. The rooms looked acceptable. Food every day with few exceptions was the same. Very disturbing was that the all-inclusive drinks could just take the bar inside the hotel and although there is poolbar to what was there was not all inclusive. Another bad thing was the attitude of the bartender who was a Russian. Last night when we went for another drink at the bar when I arrived was done at 11 and our bartender refused. It was not even one minute at 11. That bothered me a lot. I was not bothered so much so that all drinks were very poor quality and the fact that I was the bartender refused. I caught bartender on many occasions while he filled up the bottles from some plastic canister.
There have been other things but they were most disturbing.
Surely that will not come back to this hotel. I paid close to how we take a 5 * hotel in Turkey with ultra all inclusive.
The rest was ok. Beautiful beach trip we bought locally we have higher morale.
I'm sorry but this is truth.
Hotel on the outside looks good but service is very poor.

Hotel located in front of sea, so you have easy access to nice sandy beach. We have had a 'sea view' room, but just between our balcony and sea was an animation place, so each evening we had loud perfomace in place. ( have to close door to balcony and turn on air conditioner to sleep without noise)
All hotel staff was quite nice, pleasant and ready to help.
Food was ok, but on Crete it is below the middle level - in any restaurant you'll got much tastier food for reasonable price.

Room Tip: Don't ask for "Sea view" rooms. I would call it 'animation view' - each evenin...

When I was reading reviews I was a little bit nervous before trip. On place I was extremly surprised how great was the hotel.
But let's start from the beginning:
FOOD: Enough for everybody, after anything has finished they put another portion, food was delicious, everyday something knew, everyone find something.Maybe children between 1-2 years will have problems but it dependes on parents. My daughter eat food from home and fruits and vegetables in Hotel and it was great.
A lot of food, beverages, beer and wine in all incl. One thing I'd love to change was soft drinks-they've made something like soda and it wasn't tasty, the same with juice.Everything else great
HOTEL:It's tipically greek,so do not expect Marriott or Regency Palace,it's traditional, quite clean, well hotel was very clean but cleaners should go on classes:how to clean rooms! But you could get used to it.We've still had a lot of sand in room.
Rooms good equiped, spacious,tv very small but it was ok,fridge without mini bar what was great, very dark bathroom but for a week it wasn't so important.
ACTIVITIES:we have very small daughter but people with 3 yo children should have a lot of free time becauce ladies are doing great job:organaizing a lot of play for young and old,fun in pool, stretching on graas and many more.
BEACH:my favorite beach on Creete. Nice sand, not deep, nice waves, sunchairs for all 6 EUR all day.
POOL:not for us,not to many space around, pool for babies to deep for my daughter. Not enough sunchairs around, you should reserve them in early morning what is frustraiting.
If I should complain on something I would only for to deep babies pool, poor room cleaning.
Everything else and especially food was great.
STaff was very helpfull.
Thank to hotel for this stay.

Room Tip: We've had nice room in main building,it wasn't far from restaurant what was great in all inc...

We spent a week in Astir Beach hotel and although we are used to 5 stars hotels, this time by the budget we found this hotel to be a good nice choice - not the most luxurious place but a good one if you wish to enjoy Sea and vacation. The hotel is rated by the Greek system to be 4 stars (please don’t forget that the Greek system usually adds one to 2 stars to the common American/European system)

Pros:
1.Beach – The hotel is across the small road that lays between it and the beautiful sandy beach, for 6 Euro a day you get a set of Beach Umbrella and two seats.
2.Staff – The staff service was excellent – Our room was cleaned and changed daily and the ladies that took care for it did utmost possible, Restaurant staff is another staff the hotel can be proud off. Not like the Animation programmed staff!
3.Food at the restaurant was satisfactory and variety was enough. Food could be more of Crete orientation (This is Greek!) and less East European.
4.Our room was faced to the Garden and we had partial view of the sea. It was found to be better than the Sea View rooms by the noise from the Animation and bar. Room is typical Greek one – simple and not fancy. Beds were separate as most of Greek hotels, The TV set is small and dated to the 80th. Only English program is BBC. We suffered at the first night from Flies and Insects and in the morning staff spray the room few times so all of those left or killed.

Cons:
1.Animation team – No Greek program and the other are childish and poor
2.Internet – Should be free like on most restaurant around.
3.Transportation – If you want to tour the Island of Crete you need to rent a car. Although there are few around the hotel and the close neighborhood we found their prices (A class) changing from 20 Euro’s to 40 ones. You have to be very carful and make sure that the insurance and licensing are valid as well to the contract you sign (some just give you a receipt as contract)
4.Restaurants hours – Breakfast ends up 9:30AM, so if you want to sleep a bit more – you skip it. So is dinner that ends with light day still around.
5.Heraklion Airport and Airline – The Heraklion airport is one of those villages airports that is far with it’s facilities to service more than 3 to 4 million people tourist a year (mostly during 3 to 4 summer months). Don’t expect a clean toilet room. Check in is terrible and staff leaves you in line for opening always (this is not my first and/or second trip to Crete) for half an hour or more. Planes are leaving and coming likes bees, 24 hours a day, using one, short run way causing delays in summer season. The airport management is taking measures to build a new airport which will replace the current some where in 2015 (probably delayed by the Greek financial crisis).

Room Tip: If you are allergic or with small kids bring with you a Anti-Insect product – this is not specific t...
