Sometimes it's good to visit a Duomo to see the town! The Duomo is San Cristoforo and the town is Barga. About a 30 minute ride by car, north of Lucca on the right side of the Valley divided by the Serchio River or the Valle del Serchio (serkio). When you get into town and are at the main Piazza which has two bars, go to your right over a small bridge and continue up to the parking area which is at the entrance of the old town of Barga. Just continue walking straight ahead and you'll end up at the top of the town where the Duomo of San Cristoforo (pre 1,000 AD) will be found. Beautiful area! Beautiful views! Barga has been designated one of Italy's Most Beautiful Towns. No tourist traps here or in this entire area. Take the time to enjoy your day. Notice that these small towns have different roads leading both into and out of the old center. People back then were smart and kept walking to a minimum to get to any point in town. Check it out.

Situated on the highest peak of the village is a stone cathedral. So worth the hike to get there. The view from the grounds is spectacular in any direction.

It will take you 20min to get there. It is worth it. We went inside and it was amazing. Please see pics. If you go try to go around and take pics behind the church. Very nice views.

Barga is a gorgeous little mountain village. The Church of Saint Cristoforo is just lovely, sitting on the highest point of the town it affords fantastic views over many mountains and the town's roofs! It's plain and sparse interior are peaceful and quiet compared with the large towns of Tuscany. It's a wonderful drive up to Barga and well worth it! Enjoy

it is worth the walk up the hill. The Duomo has several frescos that are worth checking out as well as old confessionals. The stone work is also impressive.
