“Quirky retreat”
Reviewed August 12, 2013

We recently stayed here while at a wedding in Barga. The place itself seemed a bit quirky and different, I wasn't really sure what to expect. When we arrived the place was shut up for the afternoon, but the owner soon came to greet us at the door, and was really helpful. We had to walk through an art gallery to get to our room, but this really wasn't a problem, it was different to anywhere we have ever stayed before, but we really did enjoy it. The owner was so helpful, his English was excellent so was able to help us out a lot with parking etc. The stay itself was very relaxing, we were never bothered by anyone. The room was huge, we booked a double and ended up with a double a twin and bathroom all to ourselves, so we were really happy with that. The location was brilliant, it was right in the heart of the old town, it took us some time to find it, as you cant drive down the narrow streets, unless your happy to scratch your car but as ours was hired, we weren't taking any chances. We got parking at the entrance to the old town anyway, which was a short 5 minute walk. Would recommend this place to stay, it was great.

I spent one night in this very unique establishment. The en-suite room was located within a large villa which is a museum dedicated to the artist Bruno Cordati and is run by his grandson. The room was charming with a stunning view into a valley, and was also extremely peaceful. The room has a lot of rustic charm which adds to the experience. It was also very reasonably priced at only €30/night and is right in the centre of Old Barga. Thoroughly recommended!

My stay was at the end of June 2013. Barga and Casa Cordati exceeded my expectations. Our host Giordano was so welcoming, considerate and informative. I loved the building and the rooms. Full of character. I will be back!

We loved our visit at Casa Cordati. An incredibly atmospheric villa. Steeped in history, and the amazing gallery of the owner's grandfather. The big room where we stayed was huge, and felt like a real apartment (although without a kitchen). Exposed beams and tasteful furniture and views to die for.

The shared areas to hang out, especially the top floor, were a nice touch.

Giordano is a host with heart and a love of Barga. Barga was an amazing Tuscan stopover for us.

Room Tip: The big room was great. Especially for views.

I decided to stay a few nights in Barga after having stumbled upon the town 10 years ago. I returned with family as a quiet and lower cost place from which to explore Lucca. We rented two rooms. Signore Giordano, the owner and proprietor of this family owned B$B was the perfect host. From his quick and complete responses to my emails, to his honesty about his accommodation and on to his friendliness and willingness to help in any way once we were there, made our stay so comfortable and warm. I will look forward to going back again. Casa Cordati is an old Palazzo. It's huge and the transformation of parts of the structure into rooms to rent employed simply adding bathrooms to huge and expansive rooms. I have traveled to Italy 16 times and have never had as much space as the "single" I stayed in there. My cousins had two rooms, easily 40 sq meters (400-ish sq feet) each! There are small fridges, coffeepots and dinnerware plus desks and chairs. And the views!! It's located about 2 minutes walk into the old town so it's very convenient. You have the feeling you are staying in a friend's home. The furniture tends to be family heirloom quality which I enjoy.

I have never been made to feel more welcome in any hotel/Inn I have stayed prior. Go explore Barga and Castlenuovo just 15 minutes drive north and stay at Casa Cordati.

Room Tip: Barga is quaint and quiet. Casa Cordati is an old structure, so the walls are a foot thick. It's...

We stayed at Casa Cordati and were treated like family by Giordano Martinelli. He gave us the run of the place, a large and beautiful building which houses a museum as well as a guesthouse. The rooms are large and clean and are outfitted with everything you might need, very well thought out. The price is unbeatable for such generosity. The views from our window onto Barga were, as my title says above, absolutely wonderful. Oh yes, and the location in centro storico is excellent.

This was my second stay at Casa Cordati, the host senor Giordano Martinelli is a very cordial and extremely helpful person. Nothing was a problem to him, he even loaned me an umbrella when it rained. The rooms at Casa Cordati are spacious, very clean and have a pleasant feel to them. So if you're travelling to Barga I recommend that you stay here and enjoy the delights of this wonderful renaissance building and it's contents.
