“5 Star for Maldives”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 16, 2011

My wife and I stayed here for 3 weeks in July 2011 and really loved it.

A few problems we found was the buffet was overpriced and food was not great and the buggies on the jetty became super annoying especially when they were doing their unofficial races.

Other than that every thing was really great and to be honest we found the room service offered the best food then followed by the beach food.

The room quality was very good and as we stayed right at the end of the jetty it was very private and the plunge pool was great when the resort was over run with man of war jellyfish (not the resorts fault - just happens in the ocean).

It was one holiday that i really relaxed 24hrs a day 7 days a week, which is very rare indeed.

We have been to the Maldives many times and this will now be our first choice :)

The resort is wonderful but what really makes this is the staff DO care, they try to help if they can.

Its good but not great, the island is nice, not as beautiful as other islands but its still nice. We were very chilled at this Island, we found the kids club to be excellent, for both our 4 year old and our 6 month old, the rooms are great, the food in both restaurants was good, the buffet however was poor, in my opinion below average ( eat in either Meeru or Jing). The island is very laidback and as i mentioned we were very relaxed here and did have a nice week at Halaveli however it is not in the same league as some other islands in the Maldives when it comes to service, most of the staff seem a liitle miserable, the art to a successful hotel in the maldives is happy staff, they especially the locals are the heartbeat of the island and this is apparant in other islands but no so here. A 5 star hotel should not have covered plastic chairs in the main dining room, this is not acceptable. We did mention this to management and the message back was that this is is a policy of constance not to have plastic chairs, hmmm go figure.

The staff at the kids club Arati and Marian were superb as was Andreas from the management team apart from that no one else deserves any plaudits, the management are aware of some of the problems and im sure in time will rectify the issues but there really is no time like the present. I for one will not be returning (unless the wife makes me)which is a real shame as im normally a repeat guest of great hotels unfortunately as my subject title confirms this place is good but not great.

Excellent exclusive location. Recently refurbished so all very new. We stayed in a 2 storey villa on the island which is best for children as they slept upstairs making the evenings more enjoyable. Food very good, wine list first class. Pool bar staff could have been more attentive but location at sun set more than made up for this. Breakfast buffet was ok but not particularly inspiring. House reef was ok but required quite a swim before hitting the reef proper. Excellent lagoon which makes swimming very safe for children. Super gym with new Technogym equipment, good tennis court.

We have stayed for 11 nights on this beautiful island this May, and honestly could not fault anything. The hotel was absolutely amazing... We stayed in a water villa with its own plunge pool, great bed and bathroom, and full entertainment centre - latest technology from Apple, which was immaculate! The walk along the boardwalk to restaurant each morning and evening was a great chance to spot black tip sharks and stingrays and eagle rays. The food was superb and could not be faulted, but the best was the Chef Sommelier Jeröme who really knows what he is talking about!! We have stayed in many beautiful hotels around the world but this experience was unique. My advice would be just to go…you will not be disappointed!!

Room Tip: I recommend to ask for WV as far as possible to avoid having the noise of carts on the bridge.

I stayed for a week in Constance Halaveli in May 2011.
I feel it is almost a middle class resort and not comparable to hype surrounding Maldive and several resorts.
Transferred were handled well. I had to stay for one night in Male since sea planes dont fly after 4.30pm.
Villas dont have glass floor as several hotels in Maldives have.
However I got a nice located villa which was at the corner therefore offereing enough privacy.
Villa bedroom, deck with private pool and bathroom are pretty spacious. View from villa is very good.
Housekeeping is not good or say quite bad because during my entire stay on one week, the deck was not cleaned even once though I told the housekeeping staff on 3 occasions.
They have just 2 restaurants offering very little choices and nothing under USD 120 per simple basic meal. I am usually very open to various kinds of food and food is not very important to me still I felt dissatisfied.
All in all my thinking is that this resort is not worth the cost , efforts and time I spent for my stay. I liked Maldive and would travel again in 2 or 3 months but would look for another resort then.

We have just returned from a 12night stay at Halaveli, we have been to the Maldives before and this was the best resort we have stayed at. If there is anything you need just ask, nothing was too much trouble , we found all the staff just wanted you to have the best experience they could offer

ACCOMMODATION
We chose an over water villa, it was fantastic! The facilities were outstanding, large bedroom / lounge, fantastic bathroom with his and her wardrobes - what a treat. A large deck with a plunge pool which was brilliant and your own lower deck and steps to the warm Indian Ocean. What more could you ask for....... We stayed in Villa 72 and were looked after by Shareef , the bed decoration at the end of our stay brought tears of joy to our eyes. Our villa was far enough to be away from the island, but near to the Jing bar and the Spa. Yes the house reef is on the odd number villas side, but it was just a snorkel away through the villas for us. We walked around the island and all the beach villas are screened from the beach but that does mean that views form the villas of the ocean are limited. Some villas had more beach in front of them than others.

They are building a presidential water villa at the end of the water villas, work will continue April - June possibly and the end villas will not be available at that time. It does not look as if it will spoil the view from any of the existing villas

FOOD
We were on half board. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. Each evening there was a different themed buffet - Japanese, Indian, seafood, European, Italian ..... All were good depending on your likes and dislikes. We ate 3 times at Jing an Asian influenced restaurant - food and service was very good, staff were very helpful, the restaurant itself was beautiful. We also ate 4 times at Meeru , which is a beach restaurant not to be missed, this was very weather dependent but we were lucky on 3 occasions and had our meal under the stars - fantastic!. The only point to note here was candle light was not always enough to see by and if you wanted a hurried meal then this not the place for you. If you choose not to eat at the buffet then you have a $55 credit to use at either of the other restaurants, this is enough to cover 2 courses and depending on choice it could cover 3. We chose to each at the restaurants because the buffets were not to our taste NOT because they were in any way below par.

WINE
Jerome and his team were knowledgable, extremely helpful and listened to you! They recommended wines that were with the budget that you felt happy to pay At no time were wines offered that were extremely expensive unless that was what you wanted. Jerome very kindly invited us to visit his creation - a very extensive cellar! Thank you Jerome for your kindness and your education through South African wine. Your team also does you credit.

I have to thank Velu at the Jing bar where the cocktails he served complimented the sunsets wonderfully.

SNORKELLING
We went to the Maldives for the snorkelling and possibly the diving. The house reef we felt was very good, with a large selection of coral and fish. You need to snorkel at the edge of the reef on the Spa side in front of the villas 73, 75, 77 etc - do make sure you snorkel far enough out , look for the posts in the sea they will help you. We also went on 3 Snorkelling Extravaganzas, this means 2 sites, one near land one not, they were out of this world!! The coral, fish and turtles were fantastic. In fact the TGI dive team at Halaveli was a very professional operation, if you ever wanted to try something new you would be safe in the hands. However even this team could not be without the local knowledge and expertise of the Dhoni staff and guides.

SPA
We had 2 massages here and we thoroughly enjoyed them!

SHOPPING
Unless you want to take out a second mortgage....... Jewellery was extremely expensive I am talking approx $5000 as being the starting price, the boutique sold Armarni tee shirts amongst other designers. Yes there were a few items which were reasonable and some basics were available, but they were limited.

Go, see, experience, enjoy - would we go back again - yes as soon as we can!

Sorry for the long review... but I hope you found it useful.

Room Tip: To snorkel directly from your villa go for the odd numbers but don't go too near the island as i...

WOW! Cannot tell you how beautiful this drop in the indian ocean is. From start to finish the staff service was impeccable even down to the little treats next to the bed at night.

Even in monsoon season and when the rain does come it is all so breath takingly beautiful you just dont care. I actually went and stood outside in the 15 minute storm as it was so warm! we experienced glorious sunshine and crystal clear nights with only 3 or 4 storms during our 10 night stay!

If you have the pleasure of eating in the Meeru barefoot grill I recommend the steak with chilli jam and the chocolate dessert, me and my partner nearly died there and then in our seats. Jerome the somelier who works in the Jahaz and Meeru grill is outstanding and a lovely gentleman full of enthusiasm for his wines whilst extremely proud of his vast cellar.

Cj at the Jahaz bar created a cocktail from scratch for my partner (he has a thing for gin and grapefruit). The newly appointed Bar manager introduced me to the whiskey sour that was out of this world and went down like water on a hot day! a brilliant team of guys eager to please and mesmerizing to watch.

We stayed in one of the water villas, and went snorkelling every day, on the last day we discovered the most amazing coral reef at the very end of the villa peer. There are steps down and almost immediately in front of you are the most breath taking under water worlds just inches below the water's surface, make sure you take a look.

Another tip, the fish feeding held at the dive centre brings some amazing guests wishing to be fed... black tipped reef sharks (often found swimming next to the beach and in amongst the water villas), stingrays and the resident heron!

The gym is well appointed with free water and modern up to date equipment, we went out on the tennis courts which I have since found out Nedal (the tennis player) actually stops at this resort to use the tennis court!

On our final day of the holiday we treated ourselves to an hour long massage in the spa and i wont spoil the treat you get when you lay face first down on the massage table, all i will say is keep your eyes open!

The staff are always courteous and polite with a gentle nod and hello wherever you are on the island.

Stay away from the jewellery shop there are some amazing pieces that just scream buy me!

Cannot fault this holiday, we wanted once in a life time and that is exactly what we got, only one problem with the holiday... we had to leave at the end of it!!!!
