Description: The Whitehouse Cafe is a family run business that is based on good food and good service. It is situated just minutes from Whakatane on Thornton Road, in a charming traditional villa in a lovely semi-rural setting. There is seating inside the villa, on the sheltered deck area, or you can sit at one of tables outside in the garden area. There is a playground for the children to enjoy, a stage area, an outdoor fireplace and also a canopy-covered large table offering shelter from the sun. The business is owned and run by Sharni and Janice Hendl. Sharni is the chef and she has worked on resort islands in Far North Queensland and Melbourne, Australia. There is a great selection of cabinet food or you can order from the menu. The cafe is fully licensed and also available for private functions in the evening. This venue is perfect for weddings or other celebrations and we also do out-catering if you would like to have your function at your place.

“Birthday Lunch”
Reviewed June 8, 2013

Went for a casual Birthday Lunch ... I had the Thai Chicken curry which was very nice - up there with the nicest - good portion also for $16. Had a glass of wine also which was $7. The service was very good - great team in there ... will be back. We did not book - it was quite full when we arrive but nothing was too much trouble from the staff ... keep it up.

“Very average”
Reviewed April 22, 2013

Went in for a quick lunch, service was OK, ambience indifferent but the food needs some inspiration, it's just run of the mill and expensive for what you get.

“Look no further - This is IT!!!”
Reviewed April 20, 2013

We have been two Saturdays running - busy birthday time in our household. First time grabbed a table in the sunny garden & enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere. There was a big group in just before us, but the staff were awesome, looked after everyone & the wait for food wasn't as long as they had thought it might be. That time we tried the Burger & Chips & the Pasta of the day - heaps of great food - no space for desert. This time it was rainy, but we booked ahead & got a table inside in a tucked away room of our own - great for a family celebration. This time we tried the big breakfast - they mean big - beautifully cooked & heaps of food, as well as the beetroot & feta salad - massive & tasty. My daughter in law wanted pasta, but wasn't keen on the additions they had listed - so they made up a special one for her, without any fuss- which was delicious. Best of all - the surprise for the 2 birthday boys - last weeks & this, a treat dessert each with a candle! What more could you ask for? Cafe food & ambience at its best - we will definitely be back again.

“Awesome relaxing family time”
Reviewed April 10, 2013

I recently came here with my family after a morning out at a event. I have a amost 1 year old and a 4 year old who were becoming tired and hungry as well as a fussy husband.
We were looking for somewhere not in the busyness of town so the kids could play and our youngest could have some crawling space so we tired the whitehouse cafe on our way home out of whakatane. It is close to the Tauranga turn off and main statehighway so not too far from town but enough to get a country feel. We dined outside close to the fort and swing and large open grass area for the kids to play. Toy's were available for our yougests to keep him occupied while we ate. I choose the eggs Benedict and hubby had the big breakfast which was a good hearty meal with good coffees. I was extemely impressed with a large group inside they still managed to bring our food out quickly.
Overall will definitely go back. Felt relaxed and at home feeling. Just what you need with family or friends. One guy had his small dog (on a lesh) outside so nice to see you can bring your pet out of the car to join you like you would at home.
